文摘Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that presents significant treatment challenges due to its complexity, especially in terms of the various side effects that traditional medications may bring during the chronic course of the disease.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has emerged as a promising complementary therapy for UC.Based on the latest research, our editorial explored the current issues and potential essential research directions for TCM in treating UC.We anticipate that future high-quality research will pave the way for the optimization of TCM formulas for UC and their broader global application.
文摘Opioid use disorder(OUD)is a major public health problem affecting millions of people worldwide.Although OUD is a chronic and relapsing disorder,a variety of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions are available.Medication-assisted treatment of OUD generally relies on competition for opioid receptors against the addictive substance. The mechanisms of this competition are to block or inactivate the opioid receptor or activate the receptor with a substance that is intermittent or long acting.Methadone and buprenorphine are two United States Food and Drug Administration-approved medications that have long-term positive effects on the health of opioid-dependent individuals.Although clinical studies of drugs generally demonstrate efficacy in thousands of people and toxicity is excluded,it cannot be predicted whether the given drug will cause side effects in one of the patients at the treatment dose.Individual differences can be explained by many biological and environmental factors.Variations in genes encoding drug metabolism or cellular drug targets significantly explain the variability in drug response between individuals. Therefore, for the effects of candidate genes to be accepted and included in individual treatment protocols,it is important to repeat studies on individuals of different ethnic backgrounds and prove a similar effect.

文摘Traditional Mongolian medicine(TMM)integrates Tibetan and Chinese medicine with indigenous Mongolian practices, focusing on the balance of three core essences:Khii,Shar, and Badgan, derived from the Five Elements-earth,water,fire,wind,and space. These essences regulate both physical and psychological processes, and their imbalance, often caused by diet, behavior,or environment, leads to disease.TMM utilizes holistic diagnostic methods such as pulse diagnosis, visual inspection, and lifestyle evaluation to identify imbalances of three essences.Treatments include herbal remedies, dietary adjustments, behavior modification, and accessory therapies like moxibustion and massage to restore balance. This mini review examines the philosophical underpinnings, diagnostic techniques, and therapeutic strategies to Khii,Shar, and Badgan, highlighting their importance in both traditional and modern integrative healthcare.

文摘A case of progressive supranuclear palsy in a 66-year-old woman is presented. The patient complained of“progressive stiffness of both lower limbs for five years, accompanied by choking and coughing for more than 1 year,”and was diagnosed with paralysis in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),which was characterized by a deficiency of liver and kidney, and phlegm and blood stasis blocking the collaterals.Western medicine diagnosed it as progressive supranuclear palsy. The patient was diagnosed with“Parkinson’s disease”several times in the past and was given“polybasic hydrazide”and“amantadine hydrochloride tablets,”etc. The patient did not have significant symptomatic relief,so she sought further treatment with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.Based on the concept of deficiency and excess, this disease is categorized as a paralytic disease in Chinese medicine, and the onset of the disease is closely related to the deficiency of the body after a long period of illness, with wind, phlegm, blood stasis, and deficiency as the main pathogenetic mechanism. The treatment is based on the combination of disease and evidence, with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture as the main treatments, supplemented by intermediate-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation, transcranial repetitive magnetic stimulation, medicated canisters, wax therapy, traditional Chinese medicine guasha, and acupoint injections.Western medicine is based on symptomatic treatment, and the patient’s symptoms were relieved significantly after the combination of Chinese and Western medicine.
文摘Objective: To investigate the influence of integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment on the quality of life and laboratory indicators of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19). Methods: A prospective, self-controlled study was conducted to analyze the changes in corresponding laboratory indicators and quality of life in 75 confirmed COVID-19 patients treated with integrated Chinese and Western medicine in our hospital during the early stage, middle stage, recovery period, and two weeks after discharge.
