Methods: SABC immunohistochemical staining was used to investigate the expression of CCR7 by rabbit anti-human CCR7 monoclonal antibody, and the specimens were 17 cases of adenocarcinoma, 17 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, 12 cases of adenosquamous carcinoma, 4 cases of large cell carcinoma and 28 cases of metastasized lymph nodes of lung cancer. Negative control sections used 5 cases of inflammatory pseudotumor and 20 cases of normal lung tissue. Two independent pathologists observed all the specimens in the high power field (x 400) of microscope by double blind method. Results: (1) The expression of CCR7 in pulmonary tumor tissue was stronger than normal lung tissue (P 〈 0.005); (2) The expressions of CCR7 in pulmonary tumor tissues and metastasized lymph nodes had no significant differences (P = 0.177); (3) The expression of CCR7 had correlation with lymph nodes metastasis, and the expression in lymph nodes metastasis group was more than that of no lymph nodes metastasis group (P = 0.016); (4) Along with the increment of clinical stage, the CCR7 expression had a tendency to increase (P = 0.003). Conclusion: CCR7 has rich expression in carcinoma cell nests and lymph node metastasis. It demonstrates that CCR7 may be related to the development of lymph node metastasis in NSCLC.展开更多
BACKGROUND Debate exists regarding the use of thermal ablation(TA)to treat papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC).Some studies have recommended TA as a new,efcient and safe technology for PTC.In this article,we report one ...BACKGROUND Debate exists regarding the use of thermal ablation(TA)to treat papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC).Some studies have recommended TA as a new,efcient and safe technology for PTC.In this article,we report one case of a residual tumor and central lymph node metastasis(CLNM)after TA for PTC.CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old female underwent bilateral ultrasound(US)-guided radiofrequency ablation for PTC.Three months later,she was diagnosed as thyroid cancer with suspected CLNM by US and contrast-enhanced computed tomography.The subsequent fine-needle aspiration(FNA)biopsies were negative.Due to her strong personal preference,she underwent total thyroidectomy and central lymph node dissection.Local tissue adhesion and a difficult dissection were noted during the operation.The pathology of the frozen sections during the operation was still negative.The final pathology results of paraffin-embedded sections revealed residual tumor cells at the edge of the PTC and CLNM.CONCLUSION TA may lead to a residual tumor in patients with PTC.Follow-up using US and FNA biopsy may not be adequate to evaluate the residual tumor.TA should be carefully considered in PTC treatment.展开更多
Objective: To investigate the expression characteristics of Livin and second mitochondrial activator of Caspase (Smac) proteins in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and analyze their effect on patients' progno...Objective: To investigate the expression characteristics of Livin and second mitochondrial activator of Caspase (Smac) proteins in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and analyze their effect on patients' prognosis. Methods: The expressions of Livin and Smac proteins were detected in 89 NSCLC tissue samples and 25 normal lung tissue samples by immunohistochemical technique. Results: The positive expression rates of Livin and Smac proteins in NSCLC tissues were 53.9%, and 58.4% respectively, higher than that in normal lung tissues(P〈0.01). Livin protein expression correlated with Smac protein significantly(Χ^2=1 8.451, P=0.000, r=0.455). The expression level of Livin protein was closely related to lymph node metastasis, TNM stage and histological type (P〈0.05), but not to sex, age, differentiation grade (P〉0.05). The expression level of Smac protein was closely related to lymph node metastasis, TNM stage (P〈0.01), but not to sex, age, histological types (P〉0.05). Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a significant impact on survival by Livin protein in NSCLC (P〈0.01), but not by Smac protein (P〉0.05). Conclusion: Overexpression of Livin protein may play a promoting role in the occurrence and progression of NSCLC. Moreover, it may bring an adverse effect on patients' prognosis. Although overexpression of Smac protein affects the occurrence and progression of NSCLC, it has no relationship with the prognosis. Livin protein may be helpful to evaluate the progression of NSCLC, and to predict the prognosis.展开更多
