The propagation characteristics of the elastic waves are a ected by the axial loads. The influence of the axial loads to the propagation characteristics of the elastic waves is studied in this paper. Firstly, the transfer matrix of the elastic waves for the non-uniform shaft with axial loads is deduced by combining the transfer matrix without axial load and the additional equation caused by the axial load. And then, a numerical method is used to study the influence of the axial load, non-uniformity and the rotating speed to the propagation characteristics of the elastic waves. It’s found that a new Stop Band will appear due to the axial force, and the central frequency of which will decrease as the increase of the force, while the band width of which remains the same. The central frequency of the new Stop Band will also increase as the increase of the cross-section area ratio;however, the rotating speed of the shaft doesn’t a ect the propagation characteristics of the elastic waves obviously. Finally, an experimental rig is built up for further study, even though there are some small local errors, the results of experiments match well with the numerical ones, which indicates the validation of the theoretical results. The result can help to study the influence of the axial load to the dynamics of a non-uniform shaft and help to reveal the vibration propagating mechanism in such a shaft.展开更多

Ensuring the stability of the backfill bodies is the primary prerequisite for maintaining the safety of the backfilling working face, and the loading characteristics of backfill are closely related to the deformation and subsidence of the roof. Elastic thin plate model was used to explore the non-uniform subsidence law of the roof, and then the non-uniform distribution characteristics of backfill bodies’ load were revealed. Through a self-developed non-uniform loading device combined with acoustic emission (AE) and digital image correlation (DIC) monitoring technology, the synergistic dynamic evolution law of the bearing capacity, apparent crack, and internal fracture of cemented coal gangue backfills (CCGBs) under loads with different degrees of non-uniformity was deeply explored. The results showed that: 1) The uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of CCGB increased and then decreased with an increase in the degree of non-uniformity of load (DNL). About 40% of DNL was the inflection point of DNL-UCS curve and when DNL exceeded 40%, the strength decreased in a cliff-like manner;2) A positive correlation was observed between the AE ringing count and UCS during the loading process of the specimen, which was manifested by a higher AE ringing count of the high-strength specimen. 3) Shear cracks gradually increased and failure mode of specimens gradually changed from “X” type dominated by tension cracks to inverted “Y” type dominated by shear cracks with an increase in DNL, and the crack opening displacement at the peak stress decreased and then increased. The crack opening displacement at 40% of the DNL was the smallest. This was consistent with the judgment of crack size based on the AE b-value, i. e., it showed the typical characteristics of “small b-value-large crack and large b-value-small crack”. The research results are of significance for preventing the instability and failure of backfill.展开更多

Humeral shafts non-union either from late presentation after initial treatment by traditional bone setters or failed non-operative orthodox care is a major problem in this part of the world. This non-union is a major treatment challenge with increased cost of care and morbidity in this part of the world. Humeral shaft non-union can be treated with locked intra-medullary nailing (LIMN) or dynamic compression plating (DCP). Study on comparison of these methods of fixation in this part of the world is scarce in literature search, hence the reason for this study. Objective: The objectives of this study are: (1) to compare early clinical outcome following fixation of humeral shaft fracture nonunion with DCP versus LIMN;(2) to compare the time of radiologic fracture union of DCP with LIMN;(3) to compare complications following fixation of humeral shaft fracture nonunion with DCP versus LIMN. Patients and Methods: This was a randomized control study done for 2 years in which fifty adult patients with humeral shaft non-union were recruited. The patients were grouped into 2 (P = DCP & N = LIMN). Forty five of the patients completed the follow up periods of the study and then analyzed. The P group had ORIF with DCP while the N group had ORIF with LIMN. Both groups had grafting with cancellous bones. Each patient was followed up for a period of 6 months at the time which radiographic union is expected. Any patient without clinical and/or radiographic evidence of union after six months of surgery was diagnosed as having recurrent non-union. The data generated was analyzed using SPSS Version 23. The results were presented in charts and tables. The paired t-test was used while considering p value Result: Forty five patients completed follow up. There was a male preponderance (4:1), right humerus predominated (3:2). Motor vehicular accidents were the commonest cause of the fractures (62%). Most non-union fractures occurred at the level of the middle 3rd of the humeral shaft (60%). Failed TBS treatment was the commonest indication for the osteosynthesis (71%). More patients had plating (53%) compared to 47% who had LIMN. Most patients (93.4%) had union between 3 to 6 months irrespective of fixation type with no significant statistical difference between the union rate of DCP and LIMN (p value 0.06) with similar functional outcome and complication rates irrespective of the type of fixation. Conclusion: This study showed that the success rates in term of fracture union, outcome functional grades and complication rates were not directly dependent on the types of the fixation: plating or locked intra-medullary nailing.展开更多

The non uniform spinning shaft with variable parameters was modeled as a Bernoulli Euler beam column with sectional constant cross section properties by the finite element method. The supporting stiffness behavior of the nonlinear supports was described as a piecewise linear and asymmetric model. The equations of motion in the matrix form of a multi span non uniform spinning shaft with nonlinear and asymmetric supports were formulated using Hamilton's principle and the assumed mode method. As an example, a spinning rocket with many variable stiffness supports was numerically simulated by the direct integration method. The transient response and dynamic behavior of this rotate dynamic system are analyzed.展开更多

Few cases have been found in the literature. We report this case due to its exceptional nature and discuss the mechanism of onset. A twenty-five-year-old patient presented with a dislocation of the radial head associated with a GUSTILO ANDERSON type II open fracture of the radial shaft following an occupational accident. He was managed twenty-four hours after the trauma. The mechanism was a direct blow. The dislocation was reduced by external manoeuvre following open reduction of the radial shaft. The fracture was stabilized by two Kirschner wires following reduction. The result at 12 months was satisfactory from a clinical and radiological standpoint.展开更多

文摘The vibration propagates through the shaft in the form of elastic waves. The result can help to study the influence of the axial load to the dynamics of a non-uniform shaft and help to reveal the vibration propagating mechanism in such a shaft.

文摘Efficiently modulating the velocity distribution and flow pattern of non-Newtonian fluids is a critical challenge in the context of dual shaft eccentric mixers for process intensification, posing a significant barrier for the existing technologies.Accordingly, this work reports a convenient strategy that changes the kinetic energy to controllably regulate the flow patterns from radial flow to axial flow. Results showed that the desired velocity distribution and flow patterns could be effectively obtained by varying the number and structure of baffles to change kinetic energy, and a more uniform velocity distribution, which could not be reached normally in standard baffle dual shaft mixers, was easily obtained.Furthermore,a comparative analysis of velocity and shear rate distributions is employed to elucidate the mechanism behind the generation of flow patterns in various dual-shaft eccentric mixers.Importantly, there is little difference in the power number of the laminar flow at the same Reynolds number, meaning that the baffle type has no effect on the power consumption, while the power number of both unbaffle and U-shaped baffle mixing systems decreases compared with the standard baffle mixing system in the transition flow. Finally,at the same rotational condition, the dimensionless mixing time of the U-shaped baffle mixing system is 15.3%and 7.9%shorter than that of the standard baffle and the unbaffle mixing system, respectively, which shows the advantage of the U-shaped baffle in stirring rate.

文摘Backfill mining is one of the most important technical means for controlling strata movement and reducing surface subsidence and environmental damage during exploitation of underground coal resources. The research results are of significance for preventing the instability and failure of backfill.

文摘During the production, the fluid in the vicinity of the directional well enters the wellbore with different rates, leading to non-uniform flux distribution along the directional well. However,in all existing studies,it is oversimplified to a uniform flux distribution, which can result in inaccurate results for field applications. Therefore, this paper proposes a semi-analytical model of a directional well based on the assumption of non-uniform flux distribution.Specifically, the direction well is discretized into a carefully chosen series of linear sources, such that the complex well trajectory can be captured and the nonuniform flux distribution along the wellbore can be considered to model the three-dimensional flow behavior.By using the finite difference method,we can obtain the numerical solutions of the transient flow within the wellbore. With the aid of Green's function method,we can obtain the analytical solutions of the transient flow from the matrix to the wellbore. The complete flow behavior of a directional well is perfectly represented by coupling the above two types of transient flow.Subsequently,on the basis of the proposed model,we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the pressure transient behavior of a directional well. The computation results show that the flux variation along the direction well has a significant effect on pressure responses. In addition, the directional well in an infinite reservoir may exhibit the following flow regimes:wellbore afterflow, transition flow, inclined radial flow, elliptical flow, horizontal linear flow, and horizontal radial flow. The horizontal linear flow can be observed only if the formation thickness is much smaller than the well length.Furthermore,a dip region that appears on the pressure derivative curve indicates the three-dimensional flow behavior near the wellbore.

文摘In current dual porosity/permeability models, there exists a fundamental assumption that the adsorption-induced swelling is distributed uniformly within the representative elementary volume (REV),irrespective of its internal structures and transient processes. However, both internal structures and transient processes can lead to the non-uniform swelling. In this study,we hypothesize that the non-uniform swelling is responsible for why coal permeability in experimental measurements is not only controlled by the effective stress but also is affected by the adsorption-induced swelling. We propose a concept of the swelling triangle composed of swelling paths to characterize the evolution of the non-uniform swelling and serve as a core link in coupled multiphysics.A swelling path is determined by a dimensionless volumetric ratio and a dimensionless swelling ratio.Different swelling paths have the same start and end point, and each swelling path represents a unique swelling case. The swelling path as the diagonal of the triangle represents the case of the uniform swelling while that as the two perpendicular boundaries represents the case of the localized swelling. The paths of all intermediate cases populate inside the triangle. The corresponding relations between the swelling path and the response of coal multiphysics are established by a non-uniform swelling coefficient. We define this method as the triangle approach and corresponding models as swelling path-based ones. The proposed concept and models are verified against a long-term experimental measurement of permeability and strains under constant effective stress. Our results demonstrate that during gas injection, coal multiphysics responses have a close dependence on the swelling path, and that in both future experiments and field predictions, this dependence must be considered.

文摘Carbon fiber composites, characterized by their high specific strength and low weight, are becoming increasingly crucial in automotive lightweighting. However, current research primarily emphasizes layer count and orientation, often neglecting the potential of microstructural design, constraints in the layup process, and performance reliability. This study, therefore, introduces a multiscale reliability-based design optimization method for carbon fiber-reinforced plastic(CFRP)drive shafts.Initially, parametric modeling of the microscale cell was performed, and its elastic performance parameters were predicted using two homogenization methods, examining the impact of fluctuations in microscale cell parameters on composite material performance.A finite element model of the CFRP drive shaft was then constructed, achieving parameter transfer between microscale and macroscale through Python programming. This enabled an investigation into the influence of both micro and macro design parameters on the CFRP drive shaft’s performance. The Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO)algorithm was enhanced for particle generation and updating strategies, facilitating the resolution of multi-objective reliability optimization problems, including composite material layup process constraints.Case studies demonstrated that this approach leads to over 30%weight reduction in CFRP drive shafts compared to metallic counterparts while satisfying reliability requirements and offering insights for the lightweight design of other vehicle components.
文摘Background: Fractures of humeral shaft in adults are common injuries. Conclusion: This study showed that the success rates in term of fracture union, outcome functional grades and complication rates were not directly dependent on the types of the fixation: plating or locked intra-medullary nailing.

文摘Polymer flooding in fractured wells has been extensively applied in oilfields to enhance oil recovery. In contrast to water, polymer solution exhibits non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior such as effects of shear thinning and shear thickening, polymer convection, diffusion, adsorption retention, inaccessible pore volume and reduced effective permeability.Meanwhile, the flux density and fracture conductivity along the hydraulic fracture are generally non-uniform due to the effects of pressure distribution, formation damage, and proppant breakage. In this paper,we present an oil-water two-phase flow model that captures these complex non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior, and non-uniform fracture characteristics in fractured polymer flooding. The hydraulic fracture is firstly divided into two parts:high-conductivity fracture near the wellbore and low-conductivity fracture in the far-wellbore section.A hybrid grid system, including perpendicular bisection(PEBI)and Cartesian grid,is applied to discrete the partial differential flow equations, and the local grid refinement method is applied in the near-wellbore region to accurately calculate the pressure distribution and shear rate of polymer solution. The combination of polymer behavior characterizations and numerical flow simulations are applied, resulting in the calculation for the distribution of water saturation, polymer concentration and reservoir pressure.Compared with the polymer flooding well with uniform fracture conductivity, this non-uniform fracture conductivity model exhibits the larger pressure difference, and the shorter bilinear flow period due to the decrease of fracture flow ability in the far-wellbore section. The field case of the fall-off test demonstrates that the proposed method characterizes fracture characteristics more accurately, and yields fracture half-lengths that better match engineering reality, enabling a quantitative segmented characterization of the near-wellbore section with high fracture conductivity and the far-wellbore section with low fracture conductivity. The novelty of this paper is the analysis of pressure performances caused by the fracture dynamics and polymer rheology,as well as an analysis method that derives formation and fracture parameters based on the pressure and its derivative curves.

文摘The breakage and bending of ducts result in a difficulty to cope with ventilation issues in bidirectional excavation tunnels with a long inclined shaft using a single ventilation method based on ducts. To discuss the hybrid ventilation system applied in bidirectional excavation tunnels with a long inclined shaft, this study has established a full-scale computational fluid dynamics model based on field tests, the Poly-Hexcore method, and the sliding mesh technique. The distribution of wind speed, temperature field, and CO in the tunnel are taken as indices to compare the ventilation efficiency of three ventilation systems(duct,duct-ventilation shaft, duct–ventilated shaft-axial fan). The results show that the hybrid ventilation scheme based on duct-ventilation shaft–axial fan performs the best among the three ventilation systems.Compared to the duct, the wind speed and cooling rate in the tunnel are enhanced by 7.5%–30.6%and 14.1%–17.7%,respectively,for the duct-vent shaft-axial fan condition, and the volume fractions of CO are reduced by 26.9%–73.9%.This contributes to the effective design of combined ventilation for bidirectional excavation tunnels with an inclined shaft, ultimately improving the air quality within the tunnel.

文摘Introduction: The management of fractures of the tibia shaft is an important aspect of orthopaedic care, and the selection of the surgical method for fixation can substantially impact patient outcomes. The current review aims to compare the outcomes of adult tibia fractures treated with solid nails to those treated with hollow nails. Methods: A search on Scopus, PubMed, and Cochrane Library, using three keywords (Outcome, Tibia shaft fractures, Nail) was conducted in April 2023. Results were compiled and two independent reviewers screened and selected eligible articles After removing duplicates, titles and abstracts were read to exclude ineligible studies. Full-text articles of the remaining papers were read to select eligible studies which were further critically appraised to ascertain their methodological quality. The data extracted from the selected papers were synthesized using a combination of pooling of results, tests of statistical difference (t-test and chi-square) and narrative synthesis methods. Results: A total of 2295 articles were obtained from the databases and citation searching. A total of 9 papers were identified as eligible and included in the review. Findings revealed that there is no statistical difference in the outcomes of tibia fractures treated with either solid or hollow nail groups such as duration of surgery (p = 0.541), rate of delayed and non-union (p = 0.342), and rate of surgical site infections (p = 0.395). Conclusion: Intramedullary nailing of tibia shaft fractures with either solid or hollow nails have similar functional outcomes.

文摘In 2023,pivotal advancements in artificial intelligence(AI)have significantly experienced. With that in mind, traditional methodologies, notably the p-y approach, have struggled to accurately model the complex, nonlinear soil-structure interactions of laterally loaded large-diameter drilled shafts. This study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of machine learning(ML)and deep learning(DL)techniques, offering a comprehensive review of their application in addressing this geotechnical challenge.A thorough review and comparative analysis have been carried out to investigate various AI models such as artificial neural networks(ANNs),relevance vector machines(RVMs),and least squares support vector machines(LSSVMs).It was found that despite ML approaches outperforming classic methods in predicting the lateral behavior of piles, their‘black box'nature and reliance only on a data-driven approach made their results showcase statistical robustness rather than clear geotechnical insights,a fact underscored by the mathematical equations derived from these studies.Furthermore, the research identified a gap in the availability of drilled shaft datasets, limiting the extendibility of current findings to large-diameter piles. An extensive dataset, compiled from a series of lateral loading tests on free-head drilled shaft with varying properties and geometries, was introduced to bridge this gap.The paper concluded with a direction for future research, proposes the integration of physics-informed neural networks(PINNs),combining data-driven models with fundamental geotechnical principles to improve both the interpretability and predictive accuracy of AI applications in geotechnical engineering, marking a novel contribution to the field.
文摘In this paper, a hybrid approach was developed to investigate the transient responses of a multi span non uniform flexible spinning shaft with nonlinear and asymmetric supports. The transient response and dynamic behavior of this rotate dynamic system are analyzed.

文摘This work aims to systematically study hydrodynamics and mixing characteristics of non-Newtonian fluid(carboxyl methyl cellulose,CMC)in dual shaft eccentric mixer.Fluid rheology was described by the power law rheological model.Computational fluid dynamics was employed to simulate the velocity field and shear rate inside the stirred tank. The influence mechanism of the rotational modes, height difference between impellers, impeller eccentricities, and impeller types on the flow field have been well investigated. We studied the performance of different dual-shaft eccentric mixers at the constant power input with its fluid velocity profiles, average shear strain rate, mixing time and mixing energy. The counter-rotation mode shows better mixing performance than co-rotation mode, and greater eccentricity can shorten mixing time on the basis of same stirred condition. To intensify the hydrodynamic interaction between impellers and enhance the overall mixing performance of the dual shaft eccentric mixers,it is critical to have a reasonable combination of impellers and an appropriate spatial position of impellers.

文摘The crack fault is one of the most common faults in the rotor system, and researchers have paid close attention to its fault diagnosis. However, most studies focus on discussing the dynamic response characteristics caused by the crack rather than estimating the crack depth and position based on the obtained vibration signals. In this paper,a novel crack fault diagnosis and location method for a dual-disk hollow shaft rotor system based on the Radial basis function(RBF)network and Pattern recognition neural network(PRNN)is presented.Firstly,a rotor system model with a breathing crack suitable for a short-thick hollow shaft rotor is established based on the finite element method, where the crack's periodic opening and closing pattern and different degrees of crack depth are considered. Then, the dynamic response is obtained by the harmonic balance method.By adjusting the crack parameters, the dynamic characteristics related to the crack depth and position are analyzed through the amplitude-frequency responses and waterfall plots. The analysis results show that the first critical speed, first subcritical speed, first critical speed amplitude, and super-harmonic resonance peak at the first subcritical speed can be utilized for the crack fault diagnosis.Based on this, the RBF network and PRNN are adopted to determine the depth and approximate location of the crack respectively by taking the above dynamic characteristics as input.Test results show that the proposed method has high fault diagnosis accuracy. This research proposes a crack detection method adequate for the hollow shaft rotor system, where the crack depth and position are both unknown.

文摘With the growing global environmental awareness, the development of renewable and green materials has gained increased worldwide interest to substitute conventional materials and are favorable for sustainable economic development. This paper proposed a novel eco-friendly sound absorbing structure(NSAS)liner for noise reduction in elevator shafts. The base layer integrated with the shaft walls is a damping gypsum mortarboard, and a rock wool board and a perforated cement mortarboard are used to compose the NSAS.Based on the acoustic impedance theory of porous materials and perforated panels, the sound absorption theory of the NSAS was proposed;the parameter effects of the rock wool board(flow resistivity, porosity, structure factor)and perforated panel(perforated rates, thickness, density, perforated diameter)on NSAS absorption were discussed theoretically for absorption improvement, and experiments were also conducted.Numerical results showed that the perforation rate, the thickness of the perforated plate, and the porosity, flow resistance, and volume density of the rock wool board played a key issue in the absorption performances of the NSAS.Experiments verified the accuracy of the proposed theoretical model.Wideband sound absorption performance of the NSAS at frequencies between 500–1600 Hz was achieved in both numerical analysis and experiments, and the sound absorption coefficient was improved to 0.72 around 1000 Hz after parameter adjustments. The NSAS proposed in this paper can also be made of other renewable materials with preferable structure strength and still has the potential to broaden the absorption bandwidth. It can provide a reference for controlling the elevator shaft noise.
文摘Composite hollow shafts are used in power transmission applications due to their high specific stiffness and high specific strength. The dynamic characteristics of these shafts are important for transmission applications.Dynamic modelling of these shafts is generally carried out using Equivalent Modulus Beam Theory(EMBT)and Layerwise Beam Theory(LBT)formulations. The EMBT formulation is modified by considering stacking sequence, shear normal coupling, bending twisting coupling and bending stretching coupling. It is observed that modified EMBT formulation is underestimating the shafts stiffness at lower length/mean diameter(l/dm)ratios.In the present work,a new formulation is developed by adding shear deformation along the thickness direction to the existing modified EMBT formulation. The variation of shear deformation along the thickness direction is found using different shear deformation theories,i.e.,first-order shear deformation theory(FSDBT),parabolic shear deformation theory(PSDBT),trigonometric shear deformation theory(TSDBT),and hyperbolic shear deformation theory(HSDBT).The analysis is performed at l/d_(m) ratios of 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,and 40 for carbon/epoxy composites,E-glass/epoxy composites, and boron/epoxy composite shafts. The results show that new formulation has improved the bending natural frequency of the composite shafts for l/d_(m)<15 in comparison with modified EMBT.The effect of new formulation is more significant for the second and third bending modes of natural frequencies.

文摘Afuzzy extractor can extract an almost uniformrandom string from a noisy source with enough entropy such as biometric data.To reproduce an identical key from repeated readings of biometric data, the fuzzy extractor generates a helper data and a random string from biometric data and uses the helper data to reproduce the random string from the second reading. In 2013,Fuller et al.proposed a computational fuzzy extractor based on the learning with errors problem.Their construction, however, can tolerate a sub-linear fraction of errors and has an inefficient decoding algorithm, which causes the reproducing time to increase significantly. In 2016,Canetti et al.proposed a fuzzy extractor with inputs from low-entropy distributions based on a strong primitive, which is called digital locker. However, their construction necessitates an excessive amount of storage space for the helper data, which is stored in authentication server.Based on these observations,we propose a new efficient computational fuzzy extractorwith small size of helper data. Our scheme supports reusability and robustness, which are security notions that must be satisfied in order to use a fuzzy extractor as a secure authentication method in real life. Also,it conceals no information about the biometric data and thanks to the new decoding algorithm can tolerate linear errors.Based on the non-uniform learning with errors problem,we present a formal security proof for the proposed fuzzy extractor.Furthermore,we analyze the performance of our fuzzy extractor scheme and provide parameter sets that meet the security requirements. As a result of our implementation and analysis,we show that our scheme outperforms previous fuzzy extractor schemes in terms of the efficiency of the generation and reproduction algorithms,as well as the size of helper data.
文摘Radial head dislocation associated with an ipsilateral radial shaft fracture is a rare lesion, even more so for open lesions. The result at 12 months was satisfactory from a clinical and radiological standpoint.
