[Objective] The aim was to investigate the effects of fertilizer type on di- rect-seeded rapeseed and to explore effective fertilizing. [Method] Four treatments including different types of fertilizers were set in the test. Growth, photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters at flowering stage such as plant height, stem diameter, shoot and root dry matter, net photosynthesis, light energy conversion effi- ciency (Fv/Fm) and SPAD value, were investigated. The effects of fertilizer treat-ments on the yield of rapeseed were evaluated as well. [Result] Both multi-functional fertilizer and controlled release fertilizer could improve plant height, stem diameter, shoot dry matter, SPAD value, net photosynthesis, non-photochemical quenching (NPQ), etc., which helped increase yield and stress resistance. [Conclusion] Both multi-functional fertilizer and controlled release fertilizer could improve yield significantly while multi-functional fertilizer (MFF) was better than controlled release fertilizer (CRF). 展开更多

To alleviate the damage of tomato virus diseases, reduce chemical pesticide consumption and residue, and prevent environmental pollution, forecasting, randomized block design and statistical analysis were adopted to conduct field efficacy tests for Lentinan + Gibberellin-heteroauxin-brassinolide (GHB) and Ningnanmycin + GHB. The results showed that when the virus diseases in greenhouse tomato were serious, 0.5% Lentinan AS 3 000 ml + GHB WP 600 g and 8% Ningnanmycin AS 900 ml + GHB WP 600 g per hectare were applied 4 times with an interval of 7 days, and the control effects on the 10th, 17th, 26th and 35th day were above 88%, 87%, 78% and 67%, respectively. The difference in control effect of the two biological pesticides was insignificant, while their control effects were all significantly better than that of moroxydine hydrochloride (CK) + GHB. The obtained results indicated that Lentinan + GHB and Ningnanmycin + GHB were the ideal biological pesticides, which could be used not only for controlling tomato virus diseases, but also for realizing modern, pollution-free, green and organic agricultural production. 展开更多

AIM:To determine the mechanism of the radiationinduced biological effects of 125I seeds on pancreatic carcinoma cells in vitro.METHODS:SW1990 and PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cell lines were cultured in DMEM in a suitable environment.Gray’s model of iodine-125(125I)seed irradiation was used.In vitro,exponential phase SW1990,and PANC-1cells were exposed to 0,2,4,6,and 8 Gy using 125I radioactive seeds,with an initial dose rate of 12.13c Gy/h.A clonogenic survival experiment was performed to observe the ability of the cells to maintain their clonogenic capacity and to form colonies.Cell-cycle and apoptosis analyses were conducted to detect the apoptosis percentage in the SW1990 and PANC-1 cells.DNA synthesis was measured via a tritiated thymidine(3H-Td R)incorporation experiment.After continuous low-dose-rate irradiation with 125I radioactive seeds,the survival fractions at 2 Gy(SF2),percentage apoptosis,and cell cycle phases of the SW1990 and PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cell lines were calculated and compared.RESULTS:The survival fractions of the PANC-1 andSW1990 cells irradiated with 125I seeds decreased exponentially as the dose increased.No significant difference in SF2 was observed between SW1990 and PANC-1 cells(0.766±0.063 vs 0.729±0.045,P<0.05).The 125I seeds induced a higher percentage of apoptosis than that observed in the control in both the SW1990and PANC-1 cells.The rate of apoptosis increased with increasing radiation dosage.The percentage of apoptosis was slightly higher in the SW1990 cells than in the PANC-1 cells.Dose-dependent G2/M cellcycle arrest was observed after 125I seed irradiation,with a peak value at 6 Gy.As the dose increased,the percentage of G2/M cell cycle arrest increased in both cell lines,whereas the rate of DNA incorporation decreased.In the 3H-Td R incorporation experiment,the dosimetry results of both the SW1990 and PANC-1cells decreased as the radiation dose increased,with a minimum at 6 Gy.There were no significant differences in the dosimetry results of the two cell lines when they were exposed to the same dose of radiation.CONCLUSION:The pancreatic cancer cell-killing effects induced by 125I radioactive seeds mainly occurred via apoptosis and G2/M cell cycle arrest. 展开更多

Summary: The contribution of particles to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity has been enlightened by epidemiologic and experimental studies. However, adverse biological effects of the particles with different sizes on cardiovascular cells have not been well recognized. In this study, sub-cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were exposed to increasing concentrations of pure quartz particles (DQ) of three sizes (DQPM1, 〈1 μm; DQPM3-5, 3-5 μm; DQPM5, 5 μm) and carbon black particles of two sizes (CB0.1, 〈0.1 μm; CB 1, 〈 1 μm) for 24 h. Cytotoxicity was estimated by measuring the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and cell viability. Nitric oxide (NO) generation and cyto- kines (TNF-α and IL-1β) releases were analyzed by using NO assay and enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. It was found that both particles induced adverse biological effects on HUVECs in a dose-dependent manner. The size of particle directly influenced the biological activity. For quartz, the smaller particles induced stronger cytotoxicity and higher levels of cytokine responses than those particles of big size. For carbon black particles, CB0.1 was more capable of inducing adverse responses on HUVECs than CB 1 only at lower particle concentrations, in contrast to those at higher concentrations. Meanwhile, our data also revealed that quartz particles performed stronger cell damage and produced higher levels of TNF-α than carbon black particles, even if particles size was similar. In conclusion, particle size as well as particle composition should be both considered in assessing vascular endothelial cells injury and inflammation responses induced by particles. 展开更多

[ Method] Wet seeds of two yellow skin onion cultivars were irradiated by CO2 laser and He-Ne laser at three dosage levels separately. A randomized complete block design with three replications was adopted. The biological effects of laser-induced mutation on fibrous roots of Ll-generation yellow skin onion were investigated with biostatistics and physiological and biochemical methods. [Result] Significant variations in the biological effects caused by various laser treatments were observed in the length, quantity, fresh weight and activity of onion fibrous roots. Specifically, the variation in fibrous root length induced by different types of laser reached 5% significance level; significant variation was observed in fibrous roots of different onion cultivars induced by laser, while the variation among each treatment did not reach 5% sig- nifieance level ; the variation in fibrous root quantity induced by different dosage levels of laser reached 5% significance level ; laser radiation showed stimulating effect on root activity of onion. [ Conclusion] This study provided reference for laser-induced breeding of yellow skin onion. 展开更多

[ Method] Carbon ions were implanted into Bakui 138, Bakui i36 and Bakui 118 seeds at dose of 5 - 10is C/cm2, before they were planted. Their Fl-generation seeds were irradiated again. Seeds of the both generations were planted and the growth d the seedlings was observed in field tests. Finally, their genetic variation was analyzed through RAPD. [ Result] The germination rate and several agronomic traits like plant height, stem diameter, leaf number and yields of Bakui 138 of once-irradiated group were significantly improved, while that of twice-irradiated group showed opposite trend. The variation of Bakui 136 and Bakui 118 was insig- nificant. At the molecular level, the genetic distance with the control group of once and twice-irradiated groups was 0. 111 1, 0. 108 7 in Bakui 138; 0. 068 O, O. 030 3 in Bakui 136 and 0.062 5,0.043 5 in Bakui 118. [Conclusion] Carbon ion implantation had a significant effect on the growth and development of Bakui 138, and the effect varied with irradiation times. The nanohydroxyapatites (HAP) and its biological effects have been studied using ultraviolet absorption spectrum, X-ray diffraction (XRD) structure analysis, fluorescent and infrared spectrum of absorption and MTT method. The nanohyd- roxyapatites are prepared and made by using Sol-gel method, in which the parameters of process and reaction are controlled as: PH 】9, Ca/P = 1.67, sintering temperature of 1100?C and sintering time 2 hours. The results of the study show that nanohydroxyapatites can absorb the amino acid molecules, the absorption is better for stronger acidity of amino acids. We also find that the nanohydroxyapatites and complex of nanoHAP+ nanoCrO2 can all restrain the proliferation of cells, but their toxiciteis are all first degree or minor, but the restrained effect of the latter is smaller than that of the former, although they can decrease the relative proliferation rate of cells. The nanohydroxyapatites can also change the molecular structure of human serum albumin. 展开更多

Biological effects of human lung cells MRC-5 in CBCT positioning for image-guided radiotherapy

Image-guided radiotherapy(IGRT) provides precise positioning for the tumor target, but it may bring extra irradiation dose in the target positioning with a cone beam CT(CBCT) which has been increasingly used in IGRT. In this work, we focused on biological effects of the low-dose irradiation in IGRT, which have not been considered so far. Primary human fibroblasts cells from the lung and MRC-5 were irradiated by a CBCT. DNA doublestrand breaks(c-H2 AX foci) and micronucleus frequency of the irradiated samples were analyzed. Compared to the control, the c-H2 AX foci yields of the samples irradiated to 16 m Gy increased significantly, and the micronuclei rate of the samples irradiated for 3 days increased notably. The dose by imaging guidance device can be genotoxic to normal tissue cells, suggesting a potential risk of a secondary cancer. The effects, if confirmed by clinical studies,should be considered prudentially in designing IGRT treatment plans for the radiosensitive population, especially for children. 展开更多

Marked correlation was found in these indices. No Change in N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG),serum calcium,bone calcium, alkaline phosphatase and alanine transaminase was noted in the treat groups.It suggests that change of urine ammonium concentration may serve as a protective level in setting the TPA exposure limit. 展开更多

Various biological indices were used to observe the effects of Tween-80 in combination with hyperthermia at different temperature (39-43℃) for different period of time (20-100 minutes) on human stomach cell line BGC-823. The results showed that Tween-80obviously reduced the activation energy of BGC-823 cells. Synergistic effect was observed if applied with heat at 39℃ with the increase in temperature and time,the inhibitory effect on the cancer cells was gradually intensified. The lethal rate of BGC-823 cells treated by heat at 41℃ in combination with Tween-80 was around 5.2 times as that treated by hyperthermia alone. The synergistic effect of heat at 41℃ for 100 min. in combination with Tween-80 was equivalent to the effect of 43℃ for 100 min.In other words, the critical temperature for BGC-823 cells was hereby reduced about 2℃. The measurement of membrane mobility, SDH activity etc.also showed that at 41℃ the synergistic effect of hyperthermia in combination with Tween-80 was the best, it exceeding the single effect of these factors in combination and showing effect of multiplication. The synergistic effect of heat at 41℃ in combination with Tween-80 was higher than that of heat at 41℃ in combination with MMC. It also demonstrated that the specific and sustained action on the inhibition of cancer cells did exist. These studies suggested that the synergistic mechanism of Tween-80 and hyperthermia probably was that both of them acted on the cell membrane system. This study was conducted to explore and seek high-efficiency and safe green control techniques on sugarcane borers,promote green control of diseases and pests of sugarcane and build a resource-conserving,environmentally friendly and sustainable governance system of diseases and pests of sugarcane.A new sex pheromone trap of sugarcane borers,abamectin· Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and tebufenozide were selected and applied in field trials.The use of the new sex pheromone trap of sugarcane borers (6 traps/hm 2) in combination with 0.05% abamectin·10 billion active gemmae/g B.thuringiensis (Bt) WP (1.8 kg/hm 2) or new sex pheromone trap of sugarcane borers (6 traps/hm 2) in combination with 200 g/L tebufenozide SC (1.5 L/hm 2) were the best in the sugarcane production.New sex pheromone trap of sugarcane borers should be installed in early march,and biological agents were mixed with water 900 kg per hectare and sprayed evenly sugarcane plants at the beginning of April.Their control effects of dead heart rate and bored stalk rate could be more than 69.98% and 49.09%,respectively,which were superior to that of the control pesticide 3.6% bisultap GR (90 kg/hm 2).The results showed that new sex pheromone trap of sugarcane borers in combination with abamectin· B.thuringiensis (Bt) or tebufenozide was the optimum mode of green control techniques on sugarcane borers.When it was alternately or coordinately used with other technology,it could delay the emergence and development of drug resistance,and it was worthy of widespread popularization and application in sugarcane area. 展开更多

We evaluate the level of knowledge of clinician doctors asking for echographies on the biological effects of ultrasounds and their attitudes towards ultrasounds examinations performed in Lome. Transverse study based on a survey led from August 16th till November 30th, 2013 including 105 doctors applicant of ultrasound in Lome (Togo). The middle age of the applicant doctors was of 34 years with a sex-ratio of 4/1 and more than half practiced in public facilities. Approximately ten percent applicants thought that the ultrasound is an irradiant exam and those practicing for less than 5 years were the ones who had a good level of knowledge on the not irradiant character of the ultrasounds. The existence of the thermal and mechanical effects of the ultrasounds was known only by 4.8% of the applicants and only 1.9% of the doctors had information on the thermal index (TI) and the mechanical index (MI). More than half (66.7%) analyzed the ultrasound images joined to the report but none verified the conformity with the standards of the values of the TI and at MI shown on the images. They were 43.5% to read only the conclusion. The level of knowledge of the doctors on the biological effects of the ultrasounds is unsatisfactory. The ultrasounds although not irradiant, have biological effects imposing precautionary measures which have to guide the attitude of the applicants towards the ultrasonographic explorations. 展开更多

To screen new biological formulations, accurate and efficient application technology, field test was conducted with 72% Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)·monosultap WP, 8% lambda-cyhalothrin·emamectin benzoate SA and 3.6% lambda-cyhalothrin·Bt SA through manual spraying and unmanned aerial vehicle spraying. Test results and comprehensive evaluation analysis demonstrated that 72% Bt·monosultap WP and 8%lambda-cyhalothrin·emamectin benzoate SA by manual spraying and unmanned aerial vehicle spraying had good prevention and control effect on strains and internodes damaged by Tryporyza intacta Snellen in middle and late stage, which were ideal new biological formulations with high effi-ciency and low risk for prevention and control of T. intacta in middle and late stage, and could be popularized in sugarcane area. 72% Bt·monosultap WP at the dose of 3 000 g/hectare and 8% lambda-cyhalothrin·emamectin benzoate SA at the dose of 750 mL/hectare could be sprayed in mid September at the peak occurrence period of the forth and fifth generations of T. intacta and Proceras venosatus. Agents were diluted with 900 kg water per hectare, and manually sprayed with electric knapsack sprayer; or agents were diluted with 15 kg of Haoyang aerial control special addi-tives and water per hectare, and sprayed with unmanned aerial vehicle. The control effect against borer-damaged strain rate was above 81.3% and that against borer-damaged internode rate was above 88.6%. 展开更多

Beneficial Applications and Deleterious Effects of Near-Infrared from Biological and Medical Perspectives

Over half of solar energy consists of near-infrared and a wide range of preventative mechanisms have been evolutionarily maintained in organisms to protect against effects of near-infrared. However, the biological effects of near-infrared have not been investigated in detail. Despite the essential requirement of a water-filter to imitate solar near-infrared filtered by atmospheric water, previous studies used near-infrared resources without a water-filter or a cooling system. With these methods, near-infrared energy is primarily absorbed in the superficial tissues, thus these approaches are unable to sufficiently evaluate the biological effects of solar near-infrared that reaches human tissue. We have elucidated that near-infrared (1100 - 1800 nm together with a water-filter that excludes wavelengths 1400 - 1500 nm) non-thermally affects the skin into the deeper tissues. The biological effects of near-infrared have both beneficial applications and deleterious effects. Near-infrared induces collagen and elastin stimulation, which achieves skin rejuvenation and skin tightening, and induces long-lasting vasodilation that may prevent vasospasm and be beneficial for ischemic disorders. Near-infrared also relaxes and weakens dystonic and hypertrophic muscles to reduce wrinkles and myalgia. Nearinfrared is an essential tool in cancer detection and imaging, and induces drastic non-thermal DNA damage of mitotic cells, which may be beneficial for treating cancer. Activation of stem cells by near-infrared may be useful in regenerative medicine. However, continuous near-infrared exposure induces photoaging and potentially photocarcinogenesis. Humans have protective mechanisms against near-infrared on multiple levels, including perspiration, blisters, vasodilation, hair, skin, adipose tissue, and cotton or wool clothing. Further protection should be considered, as biological effects of near-infrared are significant, and standard sunscreens and glasses cannot sufficiently block near-infrared. This paper reviews the effects of near-infrared and introduces the new findings of near-infrared from a biological point of view. 展开更多
