In order to provide the constraint on the Qilian orogenic mechanism and the expansion of the plateau,wide-angle seismic data was acquired along a 430 km-long profile between Jingtai and Hezuo. There is strong height variation along the profile, which is dealt by topography flattening scheme in our crustal velocity structure reconstruction. We herein present the upper crustal P-wave velocity structure model resulting from the interpretation of first arrival dataset from topography-dependent eikonal traveltime tomography. With topography flattening scheme to process real topography along the profile, the evenness of ray coverage times of the image area(upper crust)is improved, which provides upper crustal velocity model comparable to the classic traveltime tomography(with model expansion scheme to process irregular surface). The upper crustal velocity model shows zoning character which matcheswith the tectonic division of the Qaidam-Kunlun-West Qinling belt, the Central and Northern Qilian, and the Alax blocks along the profile. The resultant upper crustal P-wave velocity model is expected to provide important base for linkage between the mapped surface geology and deep structure or geodynamics in Northeastern Tibet.展开更多

These stations was distributed on most tectonic unit in Eastern Tibet, which are Eastern Qaidam Basin\|Gonghe Basin, Eastern Kunlun Fault\|Maqin Suture,Bayan Har\|Ganzi Terrane,Jinsha Suture and Qiangtang Block from north to south.According to 19 well\|recorded P wave events, after the data processing such as broading the frequence band, integration to get ground motions, then filtering and deconvolution, most stations’ data can achieve good receiver function with clear Ps conversions which show a step\|shaped Moho with southward dipping. The biggest Ps conversions occur 5~9 seconds after P arrival from north to south. Broad peak and its perturbations mean thicker sediments in Gonghe Basin and south of Jinsha Suture. And correspondent inversion shows there are two discontinuous positions where Kunlun Fault and Jinsha Suture are located. The crust thickness is about 55km in Gonghe Basin and nearby, deeper to 70km in Bayan Har Terrane, and 75~80km in the Qiangtang Block. A 20~40km deep low\|velocity zone can be traced along the profile although it is displaced by the faults. In Bayan Har Terrane some stations show a little eastward inclination of Moho due to comparing the receiver function from different back\|azimuth. A model is deduced that support both Qilian Plate and Qiangtang Block’s subduction beneath Bayan Terrane, and do uble\|crust and escape\|structure is therefore possible because of the stress st ate.展开更多

This method involves the following two steps:first, the high-frequency approximate amplitude formula of direct P-waves in P-RFs of individual stations is used to fit the observed amplitude distribution against the ray parameters at different frequencies, and second, the S-wave velocity depth profile beneath each station is constrained according to an empirical correlation between frequency and depth. Unlike traditional inversion techniques, the newly developed method is not dependent on initial velocity models, and the lateral and vertical resolutions of the results are controlled by the interstation distance and the data frequency, respectively. The effectiveness of the method is verified by synthetic tests on various models. The method is then applied to teleseismic P-RF data from a NW-SEtrending linear seismic array extending from the northeastern Tibetan Plateau to the central Sichuan Basin to construct an S-wave velocity image of the shallow crust along the array. The imaged velocity structure is further analysed and compared with the regional geology. In particular, the structural differences of sedimentary basins in the cratonic area of the stable Sichuan Basin and tectonically active belts in northeastern Tibet are investigated. By combining our results with previous observations, the relationship between the surficial geology and deep processes in the study region is also discussed.展开更多

The cross-fault data reliability are analyzed base on the stability of reference datum and observation points, thereby facili- tating plotting of the representative value curves after removing interference. The spatial and temporal characteristics of fault deformation abnormalities before the 2016 Menyuan Ms6.4 earthquake, as well as the fault-movement characteristics reflected by representa- tive value, are summarized. The results show that many site trends had changed 1-3 years before the Menyuan Ms6.4 earthquake in the Qilian Fault, reflecting certain background abnormalities. The short-term abnormalities centrally had appeared in the 6 months to 1 year period before the earthquake near and in the neighborhood of the source region, demonstrating a significantly increased number of short-term abnormalities. Many sites near and in the neighborhood of the source region had strengthened inverse activities or had changed from positive to inverse activities in the most recent 2-3 years, which reflect stress-field enhancements or adjustment features.展开更多

Co-seismic displacements can be simulated by using these parameters, and then regional velocity field obtained by deducting the co-seismic displacements from the observed displacements by GPS method. We processed and analyzed the data in the northeastern edge region of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau observed during 2001 -2003 in two steps: firstly, the displacements generated by Kunlun MsS. 1 earthquake of 2001 in this region was simulated, and secondly, deducted the co-seismic displacements from it and obtained the horizontal crustal velocity field. The results reveal : 1 ) the effect of Kunlun Ms8.1 earthquake on crustal deformation in this region is significant; 2 )the velocity field obtained with this method is better than the original GPS velocity field in reflecting the status of regional crustal movement and strain.展开更多

After removing the contributions from the observed vertical movement and inferred surface denudation, we obtain a gravity-variation rate of 0.73 × 10^-8 ms^-2a^-1 attributable to the mass changes beneath the crust. This positive change suggests that the total mass under the observation stations was gradually increasing. We consider this result to be the gravitational evidence of underplating beneath the study area, and propose that the underplating was caused by collision betwen the Indian plate and Tibetan plateau and by gravitation-potential induced deviatoric stress.展开更多

The results show as follows: ① Regional gravitational field changes regularly and the gravity abnormity zone or gravity concentration zone appears in the earthquake preparation process; ②In the significant time period, the gravity variation shows different features in the northwest, southeast and northeast parts of the surveyed region respectively, with Lanzhou as its boundary;③The gravity variation distribution is basically identical to the strike of tectonic fault zone of the region, and the contour of gravity variation is closely related to the fault distribution.展开更多

Considering the impact factors, conductivity, alkalinity, pH, TOC, C/N and carbonate-content in the sediments, CI, P, S, and metal element ratios of Mg/Ca, Sr/Ca, Fe/Mn of bulk sediments as environmental variables enable evaluation of their influences on δ13C and δ18O using principal component analysis (PCA) method. The closure and residence time of lakes can influence the correlation between δ13C and δ18O. Lake water will change from fresh to brackish with increasing reduction and eutrophication effects. Mg/Ca in the bulk sediment indicates the characteristic of residence time, Sr/Ca and Fe/Mn infer the salinity of lakes. Carbonate formation processes and types can influence the 6~3C--~1So correlation. ~180 will be heavier from Mg-calcite and aragonite formed in a high-salinity water body than calcite formed in freshwater conditions. When carbonate content is less than 30%, there is no relationship with either 613C or 6180, and also none between δ13C and δ18O. More than 30%, carbonate content, however, co-varies highly to δ13C and δ18O, and there is also a high correlation between δ13C and δ18O. Vegetation conditions and primary productivity of lakes can influence the characteristics of δ13C and δ18O, and their co-variance. Total organic matter content (TOC) in the sediments is higher with more terrestrial and submerged plants infilling. In northeastern and northwestern China, when organic matter in the lake sediments comes from endogenous floating organisms and algae, the δ13C value is high. δ13C is in the range of-4‰ to 0‰ when organic matter comes mainly from floating organisms (C/N〈6); in the range of-4‰ to 8‰ when organic matter comes from diatoms (C/N=6 to 8); and -8‰ to -4‰ when organic matter comes from aquatic and terrestrial plants (C/N〉8).展开更多
