The purpose of this study is to create methodology for developing a nursing administration analysis system to aid nurse administrators in performing outcome analysis. In this methodology, information required for nursing administration in the PSYCHOMS? (Psychiatric Outcome Management System, registered trademark) database is analyzed according to the individual needs of nurse administrators. It features a combination of a classification method and an extraction method for obtaining quantitative and qualitative data as information required for nursing administration, and enables nurse administrators to easily obtain analysis results that they directly need. This methodology converts the time required nurse administrators to collect and organize information into time for making considerations in order to devise strategies for improving the quality of nursing care services, and can improve the quality and efficiency of nursing administration. This may lead to an increase of the quality of nursing care services at psychiatric hospitals. This methodology is highly versatile as it can be applied in information management, not only for nursing, but for the entire psychiatric hospital.展开更多

Furthermore, usages of electronic medical records are also low so that nurse administrators are limited in their ability to compile, analyze, and generate patient care staffing information for their administrative use. Psychiatric nurse administrators anticipate the development of a nursing administration analysis system that could perform personnel data simulation, manage information on nursing staff, and manage ward/ practice operations. Responding to this situation, the authors developed a nursing administration analysis system utilizing formulae from the Psychiatric Outcome Management System, PSYCHOMS®to aid nurse administrators. Such formulae are awaiting patent approval. The purpose of this study was to examine the validity of the formulae and the Structured Query Language (SQL) statement, and its practical effectiveness of analyzing data. The study findings showed that two kinds of computation expressions—a classification and extraction were able to display required information desired by nurse administrators. Moreover, significant information critical to assigning staff was validated to ensure high quality of nursing care according to the function and characteristic of the hospital ward.展开更多

Background: Hermeneutics is a qualitative research methodology that focuses on interpreting the meanings of experiences in individual’s life. It is a major philosophy and research method in the humanities, human sciences and arts disciplines with a central goal of describing people’s experiences. Data sources: A review of relevant literature using electronics databases including EBSCO, SCOPUS, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PUBMED. Review methods: Using an integrative method, peer-reviewed research and discussion papers published between 2013 and 2018 and listed in the CINAHL, SCOPUS, Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar databases were reviewed. Findings: A final review of 13 studies that used hermeneutic phenomenology as a philosophical background and research methods was done. Conclusions: Hermeneutic phenomenology has been used as a qualitative method in numerous nursing studies with different domain including practice, education and administration. The ability of the nurses to make decisions related to implementing evidence in education, practice, research, and admiration is reliant on the clinical expertise of the nurse. The review of the literature identified that the capability to correlate research findings to these three categories in nursing and the willingness and inclination to improve current practice were crucial factors for knowledge translation.展开更多

Purpose: To identify the medications most frequently involved in medication errors as reported by Jordanian nursing students, as well as to identify the level of nursing students’ adherence to best-practice when administering high-risk medications. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used among a convenience sample of 74 nurses. Results: A total of 74 of 110 (67.3%) questionnaires were returned. The most frequent medications subjected to MAEs were Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin continuous intravenous infusion (17.2%, 16.0% and 13.5% respectively). Regarding the adherence to best-practice, nursing students adhered the most to the following best-practices: checking the patient armband prior to medication administration with a mean of 3.81 (±0.6) and bringing the MAR sheet with them when preparing a medication with a mean of 3.46 (±1.1). Conclusion: Developing an effective medication training programs in all undergraduate nursing programs in Jordanis is vital to ensure patient safety. Nursing educators in clinical and academic settings need to reinforce the importance of adherence to medication management best-practice in all courses. Close and effective supervision of students needs to be maintained throughout nursing students’ clinical training, especially during medication preparation and administration.展开更多
