The Xi’an proton accelerator facility synchrotron lattice has a systematic fourth-order resonance. The systematic octupole component in dipole magnets is found to have no adverse effect on the dynamic aperture in multiparticle tracking. The frequency map shows particles locked onto the 2v x 2v z-0 resonance. However, we will show that the instantaneous betatron tunes can vary widely around the resonance line for particles locked onto the resonance. 展开更多

The beyond mean-field approach for low-lying hypernuclear states is extended by mixing the configurations associated with both single-particle and quadrupole-octupole collective excitations within the generator coordinate method based on a covariant den-sity functional theory.The method is demonstrated in the application to the low-lying states of 21ΛNe,where the configurations with theΛhyperon occupying the first(Λ_(s))and second(Λ_(p))lowest-energy states are considered.The results indicate that the positive-parity states are dominated by theα+^(12)C+α+Λ_(s) structure.In contrast,the low-lying negative-parity states are domi-nated by a strong admixture ofα+16O+Λ_(s) structure andα+12C+α+Λ_(p) structure due to the inclusion of octupole correlations.As a result,the low-lying negative-parity states become much lower than what is expected from the previous studies without the mixing,and the electric multipole transition strengths are significantly quenched. 展开更多

Octupole deformation for Ba isotopes in a reflection-asymmetric relativistic mean-field approach

The potential energy surfaces of even-even 142-156Ba are investigated in the constrained reflectionasymmetric relativistic mean-field approach with parameter set PK1. It is shown that for the ground states, 142Ba is near spherical,156Ba well quadrupole-deformed, and in between 144-154Ba octupole deformed. In particular, the nuclei 148,150Ba with N=92, 94 have the largest octupole deformations. By including the octupole degree of freedom, energy gaps N = 88, N = 94 and Z = 56 near Fermi surfaces for the singleparticle levels in 148Ba with β2 ~ 0.26 and β3 ~ 0.17 are found. Furthermore, the performance of the octupole deformation driving pairs (ν2f7/2, ν1i13/2) and (π2d5/2, π1h11/2) is demonstrated by analyzing the singleparticle levels near Fermi surfaces in 148Ba. 展开更多

In this study,we systematically analyzed the ground state of uranium isotopes from 225 to 240.In our calculations,we used the covariant energy density functional of density-dependent meson exchange interaction(DDME2)with separable pairing interaction(TMR).Using the multiple deformation constraint,we calculated the potential energy surface(PES)of the uranium isotopes for both even-even and even-odd nuclei with quadrupole and octupole deformation.Based on our calculation and upon comparing the experimental data and Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with Gogny D1S calculation data,the ground state of uranium isotopes with reflection-asymmetric deformation was found to be preferred. 展开更多

The neutron deficient Xe nuclei with A≈120 are predicted to have strong octupole correlation at low spins.In the present study,an attempt was made to improve upon the level scheme and also to examine the signatures of octupole correlation in^(118)xe via high spin γ-ray spectroscopy.High spin states in^(118)Xe have been populated via the^(93)Nb(^(28)Si,p2n)^(118)Xe fusion-evaporation reaction at a beam energy of 115 MeV provided by the 15 UD pelletron accelerator facility at IUAC,New Delhi.In the experiment,seven newγ-transitions have been found and placed appropriately in the level scheme.A theoretical study using the triaxial projected shell model(TPSM)approach suggests that the first bandcrossing is due to the alignment of two neutrons,and a parallel band tracking the yrast configuration is the γ-band built on the two-quasiparticle state.Enhanced E1 transition rates measured between opposite parity bands involving vh_(11/2)and vd_(5/2)orbitals having△j=△l=3 indicate the presence of octupole correlation in this nucleus. 展开更多

The angular momentum dependencies parity bands of heavy nuclei have been analyzed of parity splitting and electric dipole transitions in the alternating It is shown that these dependencies can be treated in a universal manner with a single critical angular momentum parameter, which characterizes phase transition from octupole vibrations to the stable octupole deformation. Using the simple but useful model of axially-symmetric reflection- asymmetric mode, the analytical expressions for parity splitting and electric dipole transitional moment have been obtained. The findings are in good agreement with the experimental data for various isotopes of Ra, Th, U, and Pu. 展开更多

Colloidal Au-core/Ag-shell nanorods with an asymmetric transverse cross- section and a strong octupolar plasmon resonance are synthesized by the controlled growth of Ag shells on one side of the Au cores. A largely enhanced second harmonic generation (SHG) from these asymmetric core-shell nanorods is demonstrated for the first time by tuning the dipolar and the octupolar plasmon modes to make them resonant with the fundamental and harmonic frequencies, respectively. The SHG intensity of the Au-Ag nanorods with dual-frequency resonances is enhanced by 21 times compared to that of the bare Au nanorods. The co-existence of the dipolar, quadrupolar, and octupolar radiations in the SHG is revealed. Additionally, the cellular uptake of the Au-Ag nanorods is monitored and the evolution of the membrane bleb is successfully observed by the SHG imaging. Our observations provide a strategy for enhancing the SHG of the colloidal metal nanoparticles and can have applications in chemical process monitoring and biological sensing. 展开更多

Beyond mean-field approach for pear-shaped hypernuclei

We develop both relativistic mean field and beyond approaches for hypernuclei with possible quadrupole-octupole deformation or pear-like shapes based on relativistic point-coupling energy density functionals. The symmetries broken in the mean-field states are recovered with parity, particle-number and angular momentum projections. We take_Λ^(21)Ne as an example to illustrate the method, where the Λ hyperon is put on one of the two lowest-energy orbits(labeled as Λ_s, Λ_p), respectively. We find that the Λ hyperon in both cases disfavors the formation of a reflection-asymmetric molecular-like^(16)O+α structure in^(20)Ne, which is consistent with the Nilsson diagram for the hyperon in(β_2, β_3) deformation plane. In particular, we show that the negative-parity states with the configuration^(20)Ne(K~π= 0^-)  Λ_s are close in energy to those with the configuration^(20)Ne(K~π= 0^+)Λ_p, even though they have very different structures. The Λ_s(Λ_p) becomes more and more concentrated around the bottom(top) of the"pear" with the increase of octupole deformation. 展开更多

In this paper, a new type of magnet is proposed and produced to give a uniform transverse beam profile.Compared to octupole magnets, the new type of magnet can provide a similar octupole magnet field in the middle,but the rise rate declines quickly at the edges, so that a beam of the same uniformity is obtained with less particle loss.Besides that, a mechanical structure is added to adjust the width of the middle region to satisfy different transverse dimensions, which would further reduce particle loss. Some numerical simulations have been done with the octupole and the new type of magnet to show the advantages of the new magnet. 展开更多

In order to calculate the effect on the beam caused by an irregular accelerator element, we have expanded and improved the Linear and Electrostatic Accelerator Dynamics Simulation (LEADS) code. To achieve better calculation precision, the element was divided into lots of equal intervals. In order to simplify the calculation process, a one-dimensional field is simulated and the Lorenz equation is used directly. A one-dimensional field can be imported into the LEADS code. The heteromorphic quadrupole is invented and its field is simulated and optimized using the POISSON code. As examples, the effect on the beam caused by the heteromorphic quadrupole and octupole is simulated. 展开更多

High-spin states in 161Er have been studied experimentally using the 150Nd(16O, 5n) reaction at a beam energy of 86 MeV. The relatively enhanced E1 transitions between the 5/2+[642] and 3/2-[521] bands are observed in 161Er, and the B(E1) values are extracted experimentally. The systematics of the R(E1) values in the N = 93 isotones are presented. It is found that the strength of the E1 transitions obviously exhibits angular momentum dependence, and the occurrence of the relatively enhanced E1 transitions could be attributed to octupole softness. 展开更多

It has been reported that transverse distribution shaping can help to further enhance the energy extraction efficiency in a terawatt, tapered X-ray free-electron laser. Thus, methods of creating and keeping an almost uniform transverse distributed(UTD) beam within undulators are required. This study shows that a UTD electron beam can be generated within evenly distributed drift sections where undulators can be placed, by means of octupoles and particular optics. A specific design is presented, and numerical simulations are performed to verify the proposed method. 展开更多
