From the realistic dilemma of US policy on the Iranian nuclear issue and the international debate concerning the policy, we can see that Obama administration is restructuring the Iranian nuclear policy:objectives have a reasoning downward modulation which is possible for the US to approve Iranian limited and supervised nuclear fuel production;some policy instruments will be further strengthened, while others may be more flexible;the US strategically abnegates the idea of overthrowing the Iranian regime and mainly focuses on the nuclear issue to achieve the separation of political power and the nuclear issue;a greater tolerance is demonstrated in building a multilateral mechanism. The Iranian nuclear issue is expected to shift from the current impasse to the stage of substantive negotiations. 展开更多

In the information and digital era,the international situation is becoming increasingly complicated. The construction of international relations and national image depends more on people-to-people diplomacy.During the Obama Administration, the Administration recognized the central role of public diplomacy as a tool and an essential element of the 21st century statecraft.US public diplomacy and public affairs faces the five strategic tasks:to pro-actively shape global narratives, expand and strengthen people-to-people relationships, counter violent extremism and better inform policy-making as well as redeploy resources in strategic alignment with shifting priorities. It presents new features under the guidance of the perfect mechanism, such as using digital methods and social media as the core to communicate, adjusting information transmission and message control, emphasizing the inter-departmental coordination, attaching great importance to the youth and women’s groups and optimizing the evaluation mechanism. This article summarizes and analyzes the striking features of public diplomacy under Obama’s administration, focusing on citizen diplomacy operations in the Middle East, thus putting forth a worthy reference for the further study of China’s public diplomacy. 展开更多

Since the end of the Cold War,the United States has turned out to be the sole world superpower and possessed the unmatched power, and its international status and security situation reached the best period in its history.Although the U.S.power has declined relatively, its advantages have not changed substantially. The advantages of the U.S.power determine the essence of the U.S.global strategy, and since the end of the Cold War remains almost intact, which is committed to maintenance of the U.S.hegemony,including 3 core goals:maintaining security, expanding economy and promoting democracy.Since the end of the Cold War,all U.S.presidents have adhered to this hegemonic strategy while making some major adjustments, with some changing expressions and the priorities of the strategic goals. It should be pointed out that there is an important and possibly dangerous trend in the adjustments,,which is the gradual disappearance of strategic flexibility and strategic ambiguity. In other words, these global strategic adjustments after the Cold War have been increasingly focusing on China and the Asia-Pacific region. This trend is likely to continue in the second term of President Obama and will affect the development of China-U.S.relations to a large extent. 展开更多

There are three dynamics and five attributes for the Obama administration’s adjustment in its Middle East policy. The changing Middle East policy highlights the following points:shifting anti-terror battlefield from Iraq to Afghanistan, withdrawing troops from Iraq in a step-by-step manner, taking a positive attitude towards Palestine-Israel peace talks, striving to initiate a face-to-face dialogue with Iran, and settling international disputes by diplomatic means. However, the solution to Middle East hot-spot issues hinges on some uncertain factors which are the most important and most challenging part in the Obama administration’s foreign policy. 展开更多
