This study aims to study the effectiveness of online English movie reviews for improving university students’English writing in China.English movie reviews can be profitably undertaken to improve university students’writing ability by reading English movie reviews online,discussing topics related to English movie reviews and writing English movie reviews collaboratively.University students have easy access to English movie reviews massively available on the Internet,which renders it possible and feasible for English teachers to use them to improve students’English writing.Online English movie reviews provide students with enough input of model texts,hence they can acquire some appropriate expressions before writing within a short period of time.In addition,discussion on English movie reviews through Emails and QQ platform can activate students’critical thinking to stimulate their original ideas for English movie review writing.Writing English movie reviews collaboratively with the help of Internet can develop students’confidence in writing because of peer feedback and less pressure. 展开更多

Under the background of the Internet Plus,the research on the online and offline integrated teaching mode is particularly important.Therefore,based on the teaching of Henan Police College and taking the college English course as an example,this paper investigates and analyzes the online teaching situation.The results show that there are significant differences between gender and grade in students’online English learning;the biggest difficulty for students in online English learning is the lack of learning materials like textbooks and the simultaneous use of multiple equipment in class;the biggest problem in the ideological and political integration of English course is that the way of ideological and political integration in English class lacks of variety.Through this research,it is hoped to help teachers in HNP college improve the online teaching mode,improve the online teaching quality,and promote the normalization of online and offline teaching mode. 展开更多

With the development of technology,the number of English learners who opt for online learning has been increasing.In the past,students had a tendency to download English materials and watch online videos for improving their English skills.Recently,thanks to a shift to online learning,students have been making more use of online synchronous oneon-one English classes to improve their English at leisure.Although this type of learning mode is becoming more and more popular,the study of the difficulties and challenges of English learners in such a field has been under-explored.This study attempts to use a qualitative approach to interview two English learners of different backgrounds to better understand the difficulties and challenges they encountered when using such a learning method.The two interviewees conclude points ranging from the learning aspect,distant feeling,signal delay,instability of the learning software and hardware that lead to technical problems.Certain measures to avoid the problems are also suggested in this paper. 展开更多

In terms of English learning,whether native English-speaking teachers(NESTs)surpass non-native English-speaking teachers(NNESTs)or vice versa has been a heated topic.These two types of teachers have their own respective benefits and drawbacks with respect to English teaching.Most of the current related studies are on the traditional educational classroom setting in both secondary school and higher education.However,the study of the virtual learning platform as a method of teaching English is rare.This research displays valuable significance in identifying whether parents in Macao have a preference towards NESTs and NNESTs before they purchase the online synchronous one-on-one English lessons for their children.This qualitative study,after two participants were interviewed,concludes that they both prefer NESTs due to their authentic accent and pronunciation and believe it is more suitable in such a speaking-andlistening oriented online lesson.Price is not the prioritized factor to consider.They are generally satisfied with the teaching style of the online NESTs but it is also important to take note of the teaching approach conducted in the online lessons towards children,to ensure that it holds their interest appropriately. 展开更多
