Multilevel (ML) read-only technology has been a trend to improve the data capacity and transfer rate. Based on the principle and coding method of ML, this paper demonstrates some ML read-only recording methods, of which a new ML read-only recording is developed. This recording method integrates amplitude modulation achieved by the reaction mechanism of physics and chemistry of photoresist with the run-length-limited technology. The discs can be achieved using standard photoresist mastering and replication techniques with great compatibility to conventional binary read-only discs.展开更多

The effects of initialization power and velocity on optical constants of the Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films were also studied. The energy gap of Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films subjected to various initialization conditions was also obtained. It was found that the optical energy gap of the Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films increased with either increasing initialization laser power or decreasing initialization velocity, with peak of 0.908 eV at laser power of 1000 mW or initialization velocity of 4.0 m/s, but the continued increasing initialization laser power or decreasing initialization velocity resulted in the decrease of the optical energy gap. The change of the optical energy gap was discussed on the basis of amorphous crystalline transformation.展开更多

Several other GRBs have produced optical transients only slightly fainter. We argue that, based upon the recently accumulated data from hundreds of GRB transients, many such optical events should have been visible to the unaided eye in the course of human history. The most likely repositories of such observations are histor- ical records from the Orient, and we have located and discuss a number of candidates. We also consider the value of such observations, should any very likely ones be uncovered, to modern astrophysics.展开更多

The polarization characteristics of these two four-level phase change recording media are analyzed systematically. A simple and effective readout scheme is then proposed, and the readout signal is numerically simulated. The results show that a high-contrast polarization readout can be obtained in an extensive wavelength range for the four-level phase change recording media using common phase change materials. This study will help in-depth understanding of the physical mechanisms and provide technical approaches to multilevel phase change recording.展开更多

With the oxygen ratio increasing, the reflectivity of the as-deposited films decreased, and optical band gap increased. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the decompose temperature of the films was above 250℃. After annealed at 400℃, only films deposited at 5% O2/Ar ratio showed high optical contrast which was about 52%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) results revealed that the changes of surface morphology were responsible for the optical property variations of the films after annealing. Its thermal stability and high optical contrast before and after annealing made it a good potential write-once optical recording medium. OCIS codes: 310.6860, 310.3840, 210.4810, 300.6470.展开更多

Laser pulses modulation is realized by modulating two circuits of trigger pulses signal which are used to control laser pulses trapping and switching out from cavity, respectively. Bits are optically readout in both a parallel reading (phase-contrast) and a serial reading (confocal-type) methods. The method for modulating laser pulses can also be used in all of pulsed laser systems which operate in cavity-dumping configuration.展开更多

It shows that, the response of the optical intensity on the screen to the acoustic pressure is linear for shadowgraph mode and nonlinear for the schlieren mode. Because the function of shadowgraph mode has no limit on working frequency, it is suitable for the studies of the acoustic field of laboratory model of the seabed or the buried objects at low ultrasonic range. The ultrasonic pulse scattered by the cylindrical-like objects buried in underwater sand was studied experimentally by the shadowgraph mode at low ultrasonic frequency. There are five kinds of the scattered waves from the half-buried object and three kinds of the waves from the full-buried objects were recorded. The two kinds of creeping waves (the longitudinal wave and the shear wave of the object) appear in both of the two cases.展开更多
