During the recent years,some Mg based alloys have extensively been considered as a new generation of degradable and absorbable bio-medical materials.In this work,the Mg-2Zn-1Gd-1Ca(wt%)alloy as a new metallic bio-material was produced by the casting process followed by the heat treatment.The samples of the alloy were solution treated at temperatures of 500,550,and 600°C and then quench aged at temperatures of 125,150,and 175°C.The results of SEM-EDS examinations indicated that the alloy microstructure consists ofα-Mg matrix and the Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3)and Mg_(3)Gd_(2)Zn_(3)secondary phases.With regard to the results of Vickers hardness test,the temperatures of 500°C and 150°C were selected as the optimum solutionizing and aging temperatures,respectively.Moreover,the dissolution of casting precipitates and production of lattice distortion occurring after the solution treatment led to the reduction in ultimate shear strength up to 21%.But,the precipitation hardening and morphological changes taking place during the aging treatment improved the ultimate shear strength up to 32%.Furthermore,the results of electro-chemical and weight-loss measurements in a simulated body fluid indicated that the heat-treated alloy is a promising candidate for the Mg based alloys recently considered for the bio-medical applications. 展开更多

The present work focused on corrosion inhibition of AA6063 type Al-Mg-Si alloy in sodium chloride (NaCI) solution with a silicon carbide inhibitor, using the potentiodynamic electrochemical method. The aluminium alloy surface morphology was examined, in the as-received and as-corroded in the un-inhibited state, with scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). The results obtained via linear polarization indicated a high corrosion potential for the unprotected as-received alloy. Equally, inhibition efficiency as high as 98.82% at 10.0 g/v silicon carbide addition was obtained with increased polarization resistance fRy), while the current density reduced significantly for inhibited samples compared to the un-inhibited aluminium alloy. The adsorption mechanism of the inhibitor aluminium alloy follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. This shows that the corrosion rate of aluminium alloy with silicon carbide in NaCI environment decreased significantly with addition of the inhibitor. 展开更多

In order to improve the corrosion resistance of the Mg alloys, the superhydrophobic coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy wereprepared by a two-step process of micro-arc oxidation treatment and superhydrophobic treatment in stearic acid ethanol solution. Theeffects of voltages, frequencies and treatment time on the contact angle of the superhydrophobic treated sample were investigated.The results showed that with increasing the voltage, frequency and treatment time, all of the contact angles of the superhydrophobictreated sample increased first, and then decreased, reaching the maximum values at 350 V, 1000 Hz and 5 min, respectively. Theoptimal superhydrophobic coating was mainly composed of MgO and Mg2SiO4 phases, with the pore diameter of ~900 nm, thethickness of ~6.86 μm and the contact angle of 156.96°. The corrosion current density of the superhydrophobic AZ31 sampledecreased by three orders of magnitude, and the amount of hydrogen evolution decreased by 94.77% compared with that of the AZ31substrate sample. 展开更多

The use of high-temperature materials is especially important in power station construction, heating systems engineering, furnace industry, chemical and petrochemical industry, waste incineration plants, coal gasifica... The use of high-temperature materials is especially important in power station construction, heating systems engineering, furnace industry, chemical and petrochemical industry, waste incineration plants, coal gasification plants and for flying gas turbines in civil and military aircrafts and helicopters. Particularly in recent years, the development of new processes and the drive to improve the economics of existing processes have increased the requirements significantly so that it is necessary to change from well-proven materials to new alloys. Hitherto, heat resistant ferritic steels sufficed in conventional power station constructions for temperatures up to 550℃ newly developed ferritic/martensitic steels provide sufficient strength up to about 600 - 620℃. In new processes, e.g. fluidized-bed combustion of coal, process temperatures up to 900℃ occur. However, this is not the upper limit, since in combustion engines, e.g. gas turbines. Material temperatures up to 1100℃ are reached locally. Similar development trends can also be identified in the petrochemical industry and in the heat treatment and furnace engineering. The advance to ever higher material temperatures now not only has the consequence of having to use materials with enhanced high-strength properties, considerable attention now also has to be given to their chemical stability in corrosive media. Therefore not only examples of the use of high-temperature alloys for practical applications will be given but also be contributed to some general rules for material selection with regard to their high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance. 展开更多

Use of stainless reinforcing steel (SRS) in reinforced concrete (RC) structures is a promising solution to corrosion issues. However, for SRS to be used in seismic applications, several mechanical properties need to be investigated. These include specified and actual yield strengths, tensile strengths, uniform elongations and low-cycle fatigue behavior. Three types of SRSs (Talley S24100, Talley 316LN and Talley 2205) were tested and the results are reported in this paper. They were compared with the properties of A706 carbon reinforcing steel (RS), which is typical for seismic applications, and MMFX II, which is a high strength, corrosion resistant RS. Low-cycle fatigue tests of the RS coupons were conducted under strain control with constant amplitude to obtain strain life models of the steels. Test results show that the SRSs have slightly lower moduli of elasticity, higher uniform elongations before necking, and better low-cycle fatigue performance than A706 and MMFX II. All five types of RSs tested satisfy the requirements of the ACI 318 code on the lower limit of the tensile to yield strength ratio. Except Talley 2205, the other four types of RSs investigated meet the ACI 318 requirement that the actual yield strength does not exceed the specified yield strength by more than 18 ksi (124 MPa). Among the three types of SRSs tested, Talley S24100 possesses the highest uniform elongation before necking, and the best low-cycle fatigue performance. 展开更多

目的利用激光熔覆简便、高效的特点,在低碳钢表面开发低成本、短流程的耐蚀钛合金涂层,拓宽钛合金在海洋工程装备上的应用。方法选择球形纯钛粉末,采用同步送粉式激光熔覆技术在低碳钢表面制备一层薄的钛合金涂层。通过单色红外测温仪... 目的利用激光熔覆简便、高效的特点,在低碳钢表面开发低成本、短流程的耐蚀钛合金涂层,拓宽钛合金在海洋工程装备上的应用。方法选择球形纯钛粉末,采用同步送粉式激光熔覆技术在低碳钢表面制备一层薄的钛合金涂层。通过单色红外测温仪对熔池的温度变化进行监测。利用光学显微镜(OM)、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)、能谱仪(EDS)和X射线衍射仪(XRD)等表征涂层的宏观形貌、微观形貌和相组成。借助万能试验机和维氏硬度计测试涂层的结合强度、剪切强度和硬度。使用电化学工作站在NaCl(质量分数3.5%)溶液中测试涂层的极化曲线和阻抗(EIS),以评价涂层的耐蚀性能。结果采用激光熔覆技术在低碳钢表面成功制备了一层薄的耐蚀钛合金涂层。激光功率的选择对在低碳钢表面制备性能良好的钛合金涂层至关重要。一方面,激光功率会影响熔池的温度演变,随着功率的降低,熔池的最高温度降低,熔池寿命缩短。通过引入粉末沉积密度(ρPDD)和单位面积有效能量输入(Eeff)进一步描述工艺参数与涂层质量之间的关系。结果表明,在ρPDD(0.009 g/mm^(2))不变的情况下,要获得表面质量良好的涂层,需要将E_(eff)控制在一定范围(45~54 J/mm^(2))内。另一方面,激光功率会影响铁元素的热扩散,功率的增大会导致涂层表面的铁元素增多。由于铁元素在熔覆过程中的剧烈扩散,涂层的平均硬度皆大于400HV,预期对涂层的耐磨性能有正面影响。受到粉末束流对熔池的搅动作用,界面处形成了TiFe和Fe_(2)Ti的混合区域,此时涂层的结合强度降低。通过调控功率来减少涂层表面的铁元素含量,有利于提高涂层的耐蚀性能,P10涂层表面铁元素的含量最少,其自腐蚀电位最正(-0.298 V),自腐蚀电流密度(1.117×10^(-7)A/cm^(2))最低,EIS结果也进一步证实P10涂层具有良好的耐蚀性。结论选择合适的激光功率可以在保证良好结合性能的同时,使熔覆层获得优异的耐蚀性。文中以激光熔覆方式在低碳钢表面制备了高性能的钛合金涂层,为钛合金在海洋工程装备上实现低成本、大面积应用奠定了基础。 展开更多

Proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)powered automobiles have been recognized to be the ultimate solution to replace traditional fuel automobiles because of their advantages of PEMFCs such as no pollution,low temperature start-up,high energy density,and low noise.As one of the core components,the bipolar plates(BPs)play an important role in the PEMFC stack.Traditional graphite BPs and composite BPs have been criticized for their shortcomings such as low strength,high brittleness,and high processing cost.In contrast,stainless steel BPs(SSBPs)have recently attracted much attention of domestic and foreign researchers because of their excellent comprehensive performance,low cost,and diverse options for automobile applications.However,the SSBPs are prone to corrosion and passivation in the PEMFC working environment,which lead to reduced output power or premature failure.This review is aimed to summarize the corrosion and passivation mechanisms,characterizations and evaluation,and the surface modification technologies in the current SSBPs research.The non-coating and coating technical routes of SSBPs are demonstrated,such as substrate component regulation,thermal nitriding,electroplating,ion plating,chemical vapor deposition,and physical vapor deposition,etc.Alternative coating materials for SSBPs are metal coatings,metal nitride coatings,conductive polymer coatings,and polymer/carbon coatings,etc.Both the surface modification technologies can solve the corrosion resistance problem of stainless steel without affecting the contact resistance,however still facing restraints such as long-time stability,feasibility of low-cost,and mass production process.This paper is believed to enrich the knowledge of high-performance and long-life BPs applied for PEMFC automobiles. 展开更多
