From the discussion, the author finds that second language learners' lexical competence includes the following aspects: the ability to recall the words which are similar to the target words in spelling and pronunciation; the ability to recall the synonyms of the target words; the ability to recall the antonyms of the target words; and the ability to recall the related words which come together with the target words in a context. Meanwhile it advances some strategies to develop the corresponding competence.展开更多

And it guarantees the implement of language communication. Thus, accumulation of a certain amount of vocabulary and the master of proper use of them is the essential condition of skillful employment of a language. The current lexical teaching in College English is far from satisfaction. Based on the findings of psycholinguistic research, this paper intends to explore an effective way to help the students enlarge their vocabulary and use them correctly with the help of various psychological associations with English vocabulary through analysis of some lexical mistakes committed in students' daily writing exercises.展开更多

This library study begins by reviewing the dual-nature view of language in relation to formulaic aspect of language. Then, a brief survey of evidence from corpus linguistics is provided to demonstrate the formulaicity of language. What follows is the discussion of rehearsal and implicit learning vis-a-vis memory from the perspective of psycholinguistics. After that, the role of formulaic language in second language acquisition is examined by taking stock of empirical findings that have accumulated in this area. Finally, by way of conclusion, how the formulaicity of language can shed light on second/foreign language teaching theory is illustrated.展开更多

This article gives a psycholinguistic study of the discourse marker"you know", not only does it relate the use to the speaker's complex cognitive process in the production of speech, but also it illustrates how"you know"functions in the interaction between the speaker and the hearer. Finally, we come to conclude that it is useful and meaningful in our speech.展开更多

More and more attention has been paid to Chinese college English teaching from all aspects, among which, psycholinguistics is a new frontier subject. The application of psycholinguistic principles in education is more extensive. The research on the osmotic application of psycholinguistic principles in Chinese college English teaching is becoming the focus of education. This paper briefly introduces the characteristics and basic situation of English teaching in Chinese colleges, and the application of psycholinguistic principles in Chinese college English teaching is expounded. The purpose of this study is to understand the principles of psycholinguistics in English teaching in Chinese universities. It is hoped to play a positive role in promoting college English teaching innovation in China.展开更多

This paper gives an overview of schema theory as part of a reader-centered, psycholinguistic processing model of EFL/ESL reading, in which we discuss how reading comprehension involves background knowledge that goes far beyond linguistic knowledge. The process of interpretation is realized by the employment of two basic modes of information processing, bottom-up and top-down processing. Then, a variety of techniques and classroom activities are suggested for accommodating this phenomenon in a reader-centered EFL/ESL reading program.展开更多

It chronicles the evolution in terms of different disciplines and theories that have been influential, beginning with the origin of SLA/SLD in linguistic thinking and expanding its scope of inquiry to psycholinguistics. It has developed further with the disciplines of anthropology and sociology holding sway. More recently, newer cognitive theories have been influential. The article discusses the recent call for a transdisciplinary approach. More specifically, the author promotes the adoption of complex dynamic systems theory, in keeping with non-reductionist systems thinking. Not only is this sociocognitive theory an interdisciplinary theory, but it also highlights the dynamic, variable, nonlinear nature of second language development. This it does within an ecological conception of development, which insists on the relevance of context. It also maintains that SLA/SLD is not a matter of input becoming output, but rather that language patterns emerge from the interaction of its users, given the affordances that they perceive. The article concludes with a discussion of several instructional issues.展开更多
