Sixteen 60 day-old Germany Shepherd puppies[weight of (5.86±0.22) kg] were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups, one group fed basal diet was the control group, another group fed basal diet and supplemented with 1.2% glutamine was the experimental group. Trial period was 21 days. GPT and AKP activity were detected on 7th, 14th and 21 st day respectively. Dietary sup- plementation with 1.2% glutamine enhanced (P〈0.05) its activity of serum GPT and AKP compared with the control group. This experiment proved that glutamine could improve these two kinds of enzyme activity in serum, promotes protein synthesis, raise puppies anti-stress effect.展开更多

Only serum creatine kinase in affected puppies was significantly (P < 0.01) higher than in normal puppies. Although serum creatine kinase level cannot be used for diagnosis of this disease, it could serve as a tool for prognosis of the disease after treatment.展开更多

Methods: Isolates were obtained from puppies that died within the first four weeks of life and had lesions consistent with canine herpesvirus. Results: The main gross lesions were petechial and ecchymotic hemorrhages in kidneys, liver and lungs;proliferative interstitial nephritis;multifocal necrosis in liver and kidneys;and encephalitis with intranuclear inclusion bodies. Herpesvirus was confirmed through direct immunofluorescence, electron microscopy and polymerase chain reaction for DNA polymerase and glycoprotein B genes. Discussion: Eight strains were isolated and identified as canine herpesvirus corresponding to three of the working cases with gross and microscopic lesions very similar to those described in the literature;then, isolates were confirmed by PCR gene amplification, positive reactions on immunofluorescence and observations from electron microscopy. This work represents the first report of this disease, including gross and histological lesions, and confirmation by isolation and identification of the canine herpesvirus in Mexico.展开更多

Four tracheal rings were removed from each dog. In the experimental group, two “Z” shape tracheoplastic anastomoses were performed on each dog, one on the anterior wall and the other on the membranous part of the trachea. In the control group, each dog received only simple end to end anastomosis. Vicryl 3-0 absorbable suture and OB fibrin glue were used for both groups. All dogs were killed when their body weight doubled. Results The average sagittal stenotic ratio were 1.20±0.12 for the experimental group and 0.83±0.05 for the control group. The average cross sectional area stenotic ratio were 0.90±0.12 and 0.69±0.09 and T values were 8.71 and 4.57 for the two groups (P< 0.01). Conclusion “Z” shape tracheoplasty is superior to simple end to end anastomosis in preventing anastomotic stricture of canine trachea.展开更多
