Influence of PVD-duplex-treated, Bionic Surface Structures on the Wetting Behavior for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming Tools 被引量:1

Bionic surface structures, inspired by the flora, were developed for Sheet-Bulk Metal Forming (SBMF) in order to locally control the friction condition by adjusting the wetting behavior. Five bionic structures were micromilled on ASP 2023 in annealed as well as hardened and tempered conditions. Subsequently, the structured surfaces were plasma-nitrided and coated with a CrA1N thin film. The influence of the treatment method on the structural geometry was investigated with the aid of a scanning electron microscope and 3D-profilometer. The wetting behaviors of water and deep drawing oil (Berufluid ST6007) on bionic surfaces were evaluated using contact angle measurements. The resulting micro-milled structures exhibit an almost identical shape as their bionic models. However, the roughness of the structured surfaces is influenced by the microstructure. The combination of plasma-nitriding and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) leads to an increase in roughness. All bionic struc- tures possess higher contact angles than that of the unstructured surfaces when wetted by water. This can be explained by the fact that the structural elevations block the spreading. When the bionic surfaces are wetted by deep drawing oil, the lubricant spreads in the structural cavities, leading to smaller contact angles. Surface Treatment of Crl2MoV Steel towards Long-Life Cold-Work Dies 被引量:5

With the rapid development of the automobile industry in China, there is an ever-increasing demand for long-life cold working dies used for punching automobile components. However, the full potential of such advanced surface engineering technologies as PVD coatings and duplex surface treatments in cold work dies has not been realized. In the present study, Crl2MoV steel has been surface engineered by single PVD Ti/TiN coating and duplex treatment combining low temperature plasma nitriding (LTPN) with PVD Ti/TiN coatings. The properties of Ti/TiN coatings in terms of surface morphology, microhardness, load bearing capacity, bonding strength and wear resistance were evaluated by microhardness, scratch and wear tests. The experimental results show that PVD Ti/TiN coatings can significantly enhance the surface load bearing capacity (especially for duplex treatments) and wear resistance of Crl2MoV steel by more than one order of magnitude. This can be mainly attributed to the hard and well-adherent PVD Ti/TiN surface coatings and strong mechanical support of the LTPN sublayer. While two-body abrasive wear prevails for uncoated Crl2MoV, the micropolishing action of the counterface dominates in surface engineered material. 展开更多

The first one concerns the possibility of using the duplex treatment technology for creation of biocompatible diamond-like a-C:H films. The paper presents research results concerning influence of the process parameters of the a-C:H coatings creation by means of the RF PACVD method in the pure methane atmosphere on their phase structure and mechanical properties. In the second case authors present the concept of a new special multilayer thermal barrier coatings with the PAPVD diffusion barrier layers based on aluminium oxide. As the last one the special application of plasma techniques for creation of composite materials characterized by the muffling of mechanical vibration was presented. 展开更多

Over the past years, great achievements have been made in the development of coating technologies for surface improvement of aluminum alloys. Despite these achievements, the role in the market strongly depends on the ability of surface coating technology under technical and economic considerations to meet the increased demands for heavy tribological applications of aluminum alloys. Microplasma oxidation (MPO) technology has recently been studied as a novel and effective means to provide thick and hard ceramic coating with improved properties such as excellent load-bearing and wear resistance properties on aluminum alloys. The present work covers the evaluation of the performances of current single and duplex coatings combining MPO, physical vapor deposition (PVD), and plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) coatings on aluminum alloys. It suggests that the MPO coating is a promising candidate for design engineers to apply aluminum alloys to heavy load-bearing applications. The prospective future for the research on MPO coatings is introduced as well. 展开更多
