The structural parameters of a galaxy can be used to gain insight into its formation and evolution history.In this paper,we strive to compare the Milky Way’s structural parameters to other,primarily edge-on,spiral galaxies in order to determine how our Galaxy measures up to the Local Universe.For our comparison,we use the galaxy structural parameters gathered from a variety of literature sources in the optical and near-infrared wave bands.We compare the scale length,scale height,and disk flatness for both the thin and thick disks,the thick-to-thin disk mass ratio,the bulge-to-total luminosity ratio,and the mean pitch angle of the Milky Way’s spiral arms to those in other galaxies.We conclude that many of the Milky Way’s structural parameters are largely ordinary and typical of spiral galaxies in the Local Universe,though the Galaxy’s thick disk appears to be appreciably thinner and less extended than expected from zoom-in cosmological simulations of Milky Way-mass galaxies with a significant contribution of galaxy mergers involving satellite galaxies. 展开更多

To overcome the problems of natural decreases in power quality,and to eliminate wind speed fluctuation due to wind shear and tower shadow effect arising from wind turbine structural parameters,an improved prediction model accounting for the dual effect of wind shear and tower shadow is,in this paper,built.Compared to the conventional prediction model,the proposed model contains a new constraint condition,which makes the disturbance term caused by the tower shadow effect always negative so that the prediction result is closer to the actual situation.Furthermore,wind turbine structural parameters such as hub height,rotor diameter,the diameter of the tower top,and rotor overhang on wind shear and tower shadow effect are also explored in detail.The results show that the wind shear effect became weaker with the increase in hub height.The hub height is independent of the tower shadow effect.The rotor diameter is positively correlated with the wind shear and tower shadow effect.The tower shadow effect is positively correlated with the diameter of the tower top and negatively correlated with the rotor overhang. 展开更多

The aim of the study is to determine the optimal structural parameters for a plastic centrifugal pump inducer within the framework of an orthogonal experimental method.For this purpose,a numerical study of the related flow field is performed using CFX.The shaft power and the head of the pump are taken as the evaluation indicators.Accordingly,the examined variables are the thickness(S),the blade cascade degree(t),the blade rim angle(β1),the blade hub angle(β2)and the hub length(L).The impact of each structural parameter on each evaluation index is examined and special attention is paid to the following combinations:S2 mm,t 2,β1235°,β2360°and L 140 mm(corresponding to a maximum head of 98.15 m);S 5 mm,t 1.6,β1252°,β2350°and L 140 mm(corresponding to a minimum shaft power of 63.06 KW).Moreover,using least squares and fish swarm algorithms,the pump shaft power and head are further optimized,yielding the following optimal combination:S 5 mm,t 1.9,β1252°,β2360°and L 145 mm(corresponding to the maximum head of 91.90 m,and a minimum shaft power of 64.83 KW). 展开更多

This article has been directed to Environment Protection Technology with the purpose of providing a new instrument designed and developed to measure filtration efficiency through the relationship between clean cloth fabric structural parameters, dust parameters, and test measuring variables. Fabric samples used throughout the present study were woven cotton 100%, polyester 100% and cotton/polyester 50/50%. The warp count: 30/2 for all fabric samples, the weft count is 9/1;12/1;and 20/1. The weave of satin, basket, and twill is 3/1 with four different picks/cm to produce the fabrics with the same cover factor. For dust separation fabrics range in weight from “300 - 450 g/m<sup>2</sup>” with an air permeability of “100 - 300 l/d m<sup>2</sup>·min” at “196.2 Pa” (20 mm WG) as specified in DIN 53887. Air permeability through fabrics depends entirely on the sieving percent of the surface of the fabric, which is partly the pores and partly the permeability through the yarns, which are the basic elements of a fabric. The results showed that dust capturing depends entirely on air permeability, which is related to fabric weave structure and fabric material at specified testing and measuring variables. 展开更多

The geometry of an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etcher is usually considered to be an important factor for determining both plasma and process uniformity over a large wafer. During the past few decades, these parameters were determined by the "trial and error" method, resulting in wastes of time and funds. In this paper, a new approach of regression orthogonal design with plasma simulation experiments is proposed to investigate the sensitivity of the structural parameters on the uniformity of plasma characteristics. The tool for simulating plasma is CFD-ACE+, which is commercial multi-physical modeling software that has been proven to be accurate for plasma simulation. The simulated experimental results are analyzed to get a regression equation on three structural parameters. Through this equation, engineers can compute the uniformity of the electron number density rapidly without modeling by CFD-ACE+. An optimization performed at the end produces good results. 展开更多

In order to improve the strength and stiffness of shield cutterhead, the method of fuzzy mathematics theory in combination with the finite element analysis is adopted. An optimal design model of structural parameters for shield cutterhead is formulated,based on the complex engineering technical requirements. In the model, as the objective function of the model is a composite function of the strength and stiffness, the response surface method is applied to formulate the approximate function of objective function in order to reduce the solution scale of optimal problem. A multi-objective genetic algorithm is used to solve the cutterhead structure design problem and the change rule of the stress-strain with various structural parameters as well as their optimal values were researched under specific geological conditions. The results show that compared with original cutterhead structure scheme, the obtained optimal scheme of the cutterhead structure can greatly improve the strength and stiffness of the cutterhead, which can be seen from the reduction of its maximum equivalent stress by 21.2%, that of its maximum deformation by 0.75%, and that of its mass by 1.04%. 展开更多

An enclosed cyclone passageway(ECP)dust-collecting fan is discussed.The ECP fan separates dust by centrifugal force originating from a driven spiral airflow,and its design takes the constraints of Chinese underground coal mines into consideration.Using the force equilibrium law,a general equation for dust removal in the centrifugal dust removal section(CDRS)of the ECP fan is deduced.This general equation is simplified using the CDRS structure and the fan operating parameters and is analysed numerically.The attractive results show that increases in the airflow rate of the fan,the structural ratio of the ECPs and the radius of the extended axis can improve the dust removal performance of the CDRS.Furthermore,the effects of the structural ratio and the radius on dust removal dominate over that of the flow rate,and the effect of the structural ratio is more significant than that of the radius. 展开更多

A series of granular activated carbons (GACs) were prepared by briquetting method from Chinese coals of different ranks and their blends, with coal pitch as the binder. Pore structural parameters including BET specific surface area (SBEr), total pore volume (Vr) and average pore diameter (da) were measured and cal- culated as well as process parameters such as yield of char (CY) and burn-off (B). The relationship between the pore structural parameters of the GAC from coal blend (BC-GAC) and the ones of the GACs from corresponding single coals (SC-GACs) was analyzed, in which an index, the relative error (δ), was presented to define the bias between fitted values and experimental values of these parameters of the BC-GACs. The results show that the BC-GAC keeps qualitatively the pore structural features of the SC-GACs; as concerned as the quantitative relationship, the pore structural parameters of the BC-GAC from coal blend consisting of non-caking coals can be obtained by adding proportionally the pore structural parameters of the SC-GACs with a less than 10%. Meanwhile, for the BC-GAC from coal blend containing weak caking bituminous coal, the δ increases up to 25% and the experimental pore size distribution differs greatly from the fitted one. 展开更多

Elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H-NMR, fluorescence spectroscopy, and surface tension methods have been used to characterize the molecular structure and the aggregation behaviors of two asphaltenic fractions derived, respectively, from an Alge- rian petroleum well and a corresponding storage tank deposit. Elemental analysis, FTIR, ~H-NMR, and fluores- cence spectroscopy were used to investigate the chemical composition and structural parameters of asphaltenes, while the surface tension method was used to measure the critical micelle concentration (CMC) in organic solvents with different solubility parameters and polarities in order to characterize the asphaltenes' aggregation behaviors. Results show that the unstable asphaltenes fraction extracted from the storage tank deposit possesses a higher polarity (higher heteroatoms content) and a lower aro- maticity than stable asphaltenes from the petroleum well. The CMC results indicate that asphaltenes with high polarity and low aromaticity have a high solubility in polar solvents such as nitrobenzene, whereas asphaltenes with low polarity and high aromaticity are more soluble in solvents with weak polarity, like toluene. It is concludedthat the difference of structure of asphaltene samples and polarity of solvents can lead to difference of aggregation behaviors. 展开更多

Nanocrystalline TiO2 was prepared by high frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition (HF-PCVD). The effects of additive AlCl3 on crystal phase, particle size and microstructurai parameters of TiO2 nanocrystallites were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The nanocrystallites obtained experimentally are mixture of anatase and rutile, the uniform diameters of particles are about 30 nm. The phase transformation from anatase to rutile was accelerated by AlCl3, and rutile content is increased from 26.7 wt pct to 53.6 wt pct with increasing of addition of AlCl3 from 0.0 wt pct to 5.0 wt pct. The particle size is reduced and the size distribution becomes very narrow. The crystal lattice constants have the trend to decrease, and celi volumes appear as shrinkable. 展开更多

The effect of different w/s and salt concentration on the stability and structural parameters of microemulsion were investigated. The result shows that with the increase of w/s, the area of microemulsion and Nd decrease, Rw, l and n increase; with the increase of salt concentration, the area of microemulsion, l and Nd decrease, ΔG*o→I, Rw and n increase. Effect of Heat-Setting on Structural Parameters and Mechanical Properties of PP Monofilament Hernia Patch

In the tension-free hernia repair surgery, polypropylene (PP) patch has been confirmed as the most popular surgical implants. In this study, domestic medical PP monofilament was selected as raw material whose diameter was 0.15 mm, and the patch was knitted in the warp knitting machine of 12E gauge with one bar. Using the method of orthogonal experiment with three factors and three levels, the best heat-setting process of PP mesh was determined at the temperature of 130 ~C with 10 min under tension-free conditions. The relationship between heat-setting tension and performance of the patch was discussed. Patches with different porosity were prepared, and then structural parameters including density, thickness, porosity, and mechanical properties including tensile breaking strength, bursting strength, tearing strength, flexural rigidity and suture pulling out strength were tested and compared. The experimental results show that: the smaller of the patch's density, the higher of the porosity; other properties including density, thickness, bending stiffness, tensile breaking strength, bursting strength, tear strength, and suture pulling out strength reduce in varying degrees. Two body centered tetragonal (bet) crystal structures of α'-Fe_(16)N_2 with x=0.25, z=0.3125 (Jack-1) and x=0.222, z=0.306 (Jack-2) respectively, were analyzed theoretically with EMS software package. The simulation of diffraction patterns indicates that both diffraction patterns of the same axis in these two structures obey bcc extinction rule. The conclusion is also obtained from the analyses of the diffracted waves. α'-Fe_(16)N_2 precipitates in the diffusion layer of ion-nitrided α-iron have been studied with transmission electron microscope (TEM). We have distinctly observed the electron diffraction patterns of α'-Fe_(16)N_2 in [100], [111], [110], [011], [210], [021], [311], [113], [331] and [133] zone axes with perfect symmetry, which indicate the parallel orientation relationship with α matrix:<001>α'//<001>α'// {100}.α'// {100}tα. The analyses of diffraction patterns, which obey bcc extinction rule, verify the bct structure of α'-Fe_(16)N_2 discovered by X-ray diffraction. 展开更多

The relationship between the flow stress and microstructural parameters of a 0.12C-0.9Mn dual phase steel was investigated using the expression for the flow stress of dual phase steel[1] . By calculating the stress ratio and the stress-strain partition coefficient, the loud transition and the stress-strain partition between two phases are studied. On the basis of a three-dimensional non stationary model of a convective cloud with detailed description of dynamic, thermodynamic and microphysical processes, numerical experiments were conducted to study the formation of parameters of convective clouds under unstable stratification of the atmosphere. Numerical experiments have been carried out to study the formation of convective processes in the atmosphere. The thermo hydrodynamic parameters in the zone of a thunderstorm cloud are determined, and regions with a vortex motion of air are identified. The main flows feeding the convective cloud in the mature stage are determined. Due to the means of visualization, the areas of formation and growth of precipitation particles are identified. In a three-dimensional form, the interaction of dynamic and thermodynamic processes is analyzed. The interaction of fields is manifested in the form of deformation of fields of thermodynamic parameters under the influence of dynamic processes. Trajectories of air streams around a cloud and the trajectories of drops in a cloud are determined. The results of numerical experiments confirm that dynamic processes significantly influence the formation of fields of thermodynamic parameters in the cloud, which also determine the course of microphysical processes and the nature of the growth of precipitation particles. 展开更多

In this paper, the structural parameters, and density of the states of TaB2 compound have been calculated, and investigated in hexagonal phase with P6/mmm space group. The calculations have been performed with ultra-soft pseudo-potential in the frame work of Density Functional Theory (DFT) by using the Quantum Espresso package. With respect to high quantity of bulk modulus, and low quantity of the volume it is being understood that this compound has a very hard structure. The figure of density of states shows that this compound is a kind of metal. The obtained results from this research have good accord with experimental results, and with the same researches. 展开更多
