BACKGROUND Parental behaviors are key in shaping children’s psychological and behavioral development, crucial for early identification and prevention of mental health issues, reducing psychological trauma in childhood.AIM To investigate the relationship between parenting behaviors and behavioral and emotional issues in preschool children.METHODS From October 2017 to May 2018,7 kindergartens in Ma’anshan City were selected to conduct a parent self-filled questionnaire-Health Development Survey of Preschool Children.Children’s Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire(Parent Version)was applied to measures the children’s behavioral and emotional performance.Parenting behavior was evaluated using the Parental Behavior Inventory.Binomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between the detection rate of preschool children’s behavior and emotional problems and their parenting behaviors.RESULTS High level of parental support/participation was negatively correlated with conduct problems, abnormal hyperactivity, abnormal total difficulty scores and abnormal prosocial behavior problems.High level of maternal support/participation was negatively correlated with abnormal emotional symptoms and abnormal peer interaction in children.High level of parental hostility/coercion was positively correlated with abnormal emotional symptoms, abnormal conduct problems, abnormal hyperactivity, abnormal peer interaction, and abnormal total difficulty scores in children(all P<0.05).Moreover,paternal parenting behaviors had similarly effects on behavior and emotional problems of preschool children compared with maternal parenting behaviors(all P>0.05),after calculating ratio of odds ratio values.CONCLUSION Our study found that parenting behaviors are associated with behavioral and emotional issues in preschool children.Overall, the more supportive or involved the parents are,the fewer behavioral and emotional problems the children experience;conversely, the more hostile or controlling the parents are,the more behavioral and emotional problems the children face. Moreover, the impact of fathers’parenting behaviors on preschool children’s behavior and emotions is no less significant than that of mothers’parenting behaviors. 展开更多

Aim: Recently, the role of feeding coparenting has gained attention in the child eating research field. The Feeding Coparenting Scale (FCS), a measure of how caregivers interact with their partners when feeding their children was developed in the United States in 2019. However, there is no valid and reliable measure to assess feeding coparenting among caregivers of school-aged children in Japan. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the FCS (FCS-J) questionnaire for caregivers with school-aged children. Methods: This was a web-based cross-sectional survey completed by caregivers of children aged 10-12 years. A preliminary survey using interviews and a web-based survey was conducted and found that the translated items of the FCS into Japanese were understandable to Japanese people. The developed survey was administered to parents of children at an elementary school. The reliability of the survey was assessed using both test-retest reliability and internal consistency analysis. Exploratory factor analysis was used to test construct validity, and known population validity was examined in relation to attributes, marital satisfaction, and feeding tasks. Results: Findings with 135 parents of school-aged children showed good internal reliability and validity of the FCS-J. The mean score for the overall FCS-J score was 46.2 (SD = 6.2), with Cronbach’s α of 0.72. For the subscales, Cronbach’s α ranged from 0.75 to 0.79. In sum, the present study’s results support the three-factor structure of the FCS in Japanese caregivers in Japan. Conclusions: The developed FCS-J was found to have a certain degree of reliability and validity. In this study, a Japanese version of the FCS-J was developed. . 展开更多

Over the past few years,China’s higher education institutions have experienced remarkable growth in online teaching. However,it remains uncertain whether and how the sense of presence perceived by students affects their online learning outcomes when teachers use online teaching media for communication. This sense specifically pertains to the extent to which students perceive themselves as“real persons”and establish connections with others. Therefore, this study constructs a conceptual model elucidating the impact of presence on students’online learning outcomes and empirically examines the mechanism through which three types of presence influence students’online learning. The test results of the structural equation modeling(SEM)indicate that:(a)teaching presence, social presence, and cognitive presence all exhibit significantly positive outcomes on students’online learning outcomes;(b)these three types of presence can also indirectly and positively influence students’online learning outcomes through the mediating effect of flow experience and learning satisfaction;and(c)flow experience and learning satisfaction play a sequential mediating role in the process by which presence impacts students’online learning outcomes. We hope that the relevant research findings may contribute to unveiling the“black box”of the impact of presence on students’online learning outcomes and offer valuable insights for college educators to overcome online teaching constraints and enhance online teaching quality. 展开更多

Young learners’English(YLE)tests have become increasingly prevalent among and important to Chinese English learners and their parents. In China, parents are actively involved in their children’s education and test-taking decisions, and their participation has given rise to a series of social impacts.Although parent involvement has received increasing public and academic attention in newspaper and scholarly articles, there exists no thorough analysis of current research on parents’roles in young learners’test-taking.To address this gap,we systemically analyzed Chinese newspaper articles and academic articles between 2011 and 2021 to elicit Chinese parents’roles in YLE test-taking.Our thematic analysis of the literature identifies the ways in which parents influence their children’s test-taking experiences, and how the tests affect this influence.Specifically, our results elicit 1)parents’engagement in YLE testing;2)parents’understanding of the intended uses of YLE tests;3)parents’perception and consequences of their involvement in YLE testing;and 4)parents’backgrounds.This analysis reveals the popularity of YLE tests among young learners and their parents in China and public concern over test-related issues. It also broadens our understanding of YLE testing impact and suggests future potential research directions. 展开更多

Enhancing the sense of presence of participants is an important issue in terms of security awareness for remote collaboration in extended reality. However, conventional methods are insufficient to be aware of remote situations and to search for and control remote workspaces. This study pro-poses a spatial multi-presence system that simultaneously provides multiple spaces while rapidly exploring these spaces as users perform collaborative work in an extended reality environment. The proposed system provides methods for arranging and manipulating remote and personal spaces by creating an annular screen that is invisible to the user. The user can freely arrange remote participants and their workspaces on the annular screen.Because users can simultaneously view various spaces arranged on the annular screen, they can perform collaborative work while simultaneously feeling the presence of multiple spaces and can be fully immersed in a specific space. In addition, the personal spaces where users work can also be arranged through the annular screen.According to the results of the performance evaluations, users participating in remote collaborative works can visualize the spaces of multiple users simultaneously and feel their presence, thereby increasing their understanding of the spaces. Moreover, the proposed system reduces the time to perform tasks and gain awareness of the emergency in remote workspaces. 展开更多

We aimed to identify the challenges parents face raising preschool-aged children when trying to maintain a good work-family balance. We also highlight how public health nurses can support the community in this regard. Seven Japanese parents volunteered to participate, and individual in-depth interviews were conducted from May to October 2021. We analyzed the recorded interview data using qualitative descriptive methods. Three main themes concerning work-family balance challenges were extracted: 1) conflicts between parents’ childcare and work roles, 2) issues related to institutions and social systems, and 3) a lack of informal support. Factors contributing to the difficulties were a lack of time to spend with their children;an imbalance in the division of housework and childcare roles between married couples;the employment environment in Japan that makes it difficult to pursue a career while raising children;a lack of childcare services, including childcare for sick children;inadequate consultation systems;and an aging grandparents’ generation owing to late marriages. To solve this problem, we suggest that in addition to establishing a reliable system for providing childcare, local public health nurses should work with childcare workers to create an environment in which parents feel comfortable discussing work-family balance, considering the time constraints of parents during the childrearing period, and use nursery schools as a place for parent-child support. 展开更多

Objective:To examine COVID-19 vaccine uptake and its determinants among teenagers and their parents in Zhejiang,China. Methods:An online cross-sectional study was conducted among parents of teenagers in Zhejiang,China from May 1 to 31,2022.Data were interpreted via univariate and multivariate analyses using the statistical package for the social sciences(SPSS)program. Results:A total of 11115(96.11%)participants and 11449(99.00%)of their children in Zhejiang,China had been vaccinated against COVID-19.Children whose parents did not receive COVID-19 vaccination were 19 times(aOR 18.96,95%CI 12.36-29.08)more likely to be unvaccinated than their counterparts. In addition, children with no previous influenza vaccination, those whose parents doubted the COVID-19 vaccine’s safety or effectiveness, were 6.11 times(aOR 6.11,95%CI 2.80-13.34),8.27 times(aOR 8.27,95%CI 5.33-12.83),and 2.69 times(aOR 2.69,95%CI 1.11-6.50)more likely to be unvaccinated than their counterparts,respectively.COVID-19 vaccine uptake varied between different sociodemographic groups. However, the odds of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine decreased as age and education level increased. The main refusal reasons claimed by participants were that they had medical conditions that may not qualify them for vaccination(53.78%),followed by safety concerns about the vaccine(13.56%),not knowing where to get vaccinated(6.44%),and concerns about fertility issues(5.56%).Conclusions:Despite a highly encouraging level of COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Zhejiang,China, the elderly and highly educated people had lower COVID-19 vaccine uptake. It is suggested that tailored health education strategies should be taken to increase the COVID-19 vaccine uptake in such groups.Furthermore, with vaccination rates at such a high level, the pandemic is still ongoing, and public confidence in vaccines may decline. Thus, sufficient evidence-based information regarding COVID-19 vaccines should be provided to the public. 展开更多

In black Africa their social representations remain strongly influenced by local belief systems. The general objective of this study was to understand the perceptions and representations of Ivorian parents vis-à-vis PDD. This was a mixed (qualitative and quantitative) prospective cross-sectional study with a descriptive aim that involved a sample of 49 parents. The sampling was of the qualitative type by multiple cases with reasoned choice by saturation. Our results showed that male parents were mostly aged between 40 - 49 years (48.98%) with a higher level of education (67.34%) while mothers were mostly aged between 30 - 39 (61.22%) and a higher level (30.61%). Autistic children were negatively perceived by their parents: either as a source of psychological suffering (82.85%), or as mysterious children who sacrificed their parents (44.66%), or as “bobo” children (mute children in common Ivorian language) (16.66%) or like rude children (13.34%). The supposed origin of the disorder according to the parents was mystical-religious (60.94%);natural (25%);hereditary (6.25%). In 6.25% of cases, PDD were assumed to be of unknown or iatrogenic origin attributable to vaccination (1.56%). 75.51% of parents said that in addition to conventional medical therapies, they also used traditional therapies. The use of this therapeutic alternative would be linked to the perceptions and beliefs that feed the socio-cultural representations of our respondents. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Surgical intervention is usually a traumatic event that causes stress and anxiety in the pediatric patient and the family environment. To reduce the harmful effects of presurgical anxiety, parental presence during induction of anesthesia(PPIA)is one of the more notable interventions used in medical centers. However, data on this measure are difficult to evaluate and often face resistance from healthcare staff.AIM To analyze the perception of the healthcare workers after the implementation of a PPIA program.METHODS A survey was developed and sent by email to all the healthcare staff working in the children’s area of a tertiary hospital. It consisted of 14 items divided into positive aspects of PPIA and negative aspects of PPIA evaluated with the use of a Likert scale(1 to 5).The demographics of the respondents were included in the data collected. The answers to the questions were interpreted through the Net Promoter Score(NPS).The statistical analysis compared the differences in the responses to each question of the survey made by the different groups of health personnel included.RESULTS A total of 141 surveys were sent out, with a response rate of 69%.Of the total number of responses,68%were from women and 32%from men.The average age of the participants was 42.3±10.6 years. As for the positive questions about the PPIA,83%had an NPS>50,and only one had a score between 0 and 50,which means that the quality of the service was rated as excellent or good by 100%of the respondents. On the other hand,100%of the negative questions about the PPIA had a negative NPS.Responses to the question“PPIA increases patient safety”were significantly different(P=0.037),with a lower percentage of pediatric surgeons(70%)thinking that PPIA increased patient safety, compared with anesthesiologists(90%),nursing(92%),and other medical personnel(96%).CONCLUSION The personnel who participated in the PPIA program at our center were in favor of implementation. There were no validated arguments to support worker resistance to the development of the PPIA. 展开更多

With the rapid development of immersive multimedia technologies,360-degree video services have quickly gained popularity and how to ensure sufficient spatial presence of end users when viewing 360-degree videos becomes a new challenge. In this regard, accurately acquiring users’sense of spatial presence is of fundamental importance for video service providers to improve their service quality.Unfortunately, there is no efficient evaluation model so far for measuring the sense of spatial presence for 360-degree videos. In this paper,we first design an assessment framework to clarify the influencing factors of spatial presence.Related parameters of 360-degree videos and headmounted display devices are both considered in this framework.Well-designed subjective experiments are then conducted to investigate the impact of various influencing factors on the sense of presence.Based on the subjective ratings,we propose a spatial presence assessment model that can be easily deployed in 360-degree video applications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt in literature to establish a quantitative spatial presence assessment model by using technical parameters that are easily extracted.Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model can reliably predict the sense of spatial presence. 展开更多

The immediate action taken at the site of the accident is crucial to the prognosis of the tooth. Replantation is considered as the treatment of choice. OBJECTIVE: The study was undertaken to assess the knowledge of parents who accompany their children to the pediatric dental clinic, KATH on the pre-hospital management of avulsed permanent tooth in children. METHODS: A researcher administered structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the knowledge of pre-hospital management of avulsed permanent tooth from 83 parents who accompanied their wards to the pediatric dental clinic at KATH. RESULTS: A total of 83 parents were involved in the study. 30 (36%) were males while 53 (64%) were females. The majority of the parents (57%) were either university trained or had attended college of education. Only 32 parents (39%) were aware of the possibility of replantation. Majority of the parents chose non-physiologic media as the transport media of choice and only 10% would attempt self-replantation before seeking professional help. 76 parents (92%) had no previous education on pre-hospital management of avulsed tooth. CONCLUSION: The results obtained from this study indicate that parental knowledge on pre-hospital management of avulsed permanent tooth is low hence the need for massive public educational campaigns. 展开更多

Due to the rapid growth of the economy and society, the burden of social security has been increasingly escalating, resulting in a continuous rise in parenting stress among certain groups of parents. On one hand, these parents aspire for their young children to grow through play;on the other hand, they are acutely aware that early childhood education constitutes the foundational stage of basic education and serves as the commencement phase of lifelong learning. Thus, they recognize the importance of emphasizing early childhood education. Therefore, preschool education has been given important significance.Parents place particular emphasis on education during this stage. They actively leverage their educational, financial, and social advantages to create favorable educational resources and opportunities for their young children. However,to a certain extent, this exacerbates educational anxiety among a segment of parents.Despite the implementation of various governmental measures,it appears that these initiatives have not fundamentally addressed parental educational anxiety at its root. This study employs interview techniques and literature review methodologies to gain a profound understanding of parental educational anxiety during the transition from early childhood to primary education.By integrating Gesell's Maturation Theory, this research aims to scientifically explicate the developmental patterns of children.Consequently,it endeavors to enable non-professional parents to adopt a"professional"perspective in their approach towards early childhood education. 展开更多

Understanding how summer warming influences the parent and daughter shoot production in a perennial clonal grass is vital for comprehending the response of grassland productivity to global warming. Here,we conducted a simulated experiment using potted Leymus chinensis,to study the relationship between the photosynthetic activ-ity of parent shoots and the production of daughter shoots under a whole(90 days)summer warming scenario(+3°C).The results showed that the biomass of parents and buds decreased by 25.52%and 33.45%,respectively,under warming conditions. The reduction in parent shoot biomass due to warming directly resulted from decreased leaf area(18.03%),chlorophyll a(18.27%),chlorophyll b(29.21%)content,as well as a reduction in net photosynthetic rate(7.32%)and the maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II(PSII)photochemistry(4.29%).The decline in daughter shoot biomass was linked to a decrease in daughter shoot number(33.33%)by warming. However, the number of belowground buds increased by 46.43%.The results indicated that long-term summer warming reduces biomass accumulation in parent shoot by increasing both limitation of stoma and non-stoma.Consequently,the parent shoot allocates relatively more biomass to the belowground organs to maintain the survival and growth of buds.Overall, buds,as a potential aboveground population, could remedy for the cur-rent loss of parent shoot density by increasing the number of future daughter shoots if summer warming subsides. 展开更多

Social anxiety is a common psychological problem among left-behind children(LBC)and has been a popular issue in recent years.Children with higher levels of social anxiety have more emotional and behavioral problems and are prone to negative life events.Although several studies have explored the differences in social anxiety between LBC and non-left-behind children(N-LBC),the findings have not been consistent. In this study,a systematic review and meta-analysis method was used, with 411 papers retrieved on October 01,2023,from Pubmed,Embase,Web of Science, and Chinese databases(CNKI,VIP,and Wanfang)(PROSPERO registry number:CRD42023472463).Twenty-one studies met the research criteria and included 11,254 LBC and 13,096 N-LBC.LBC scored significantly higher for social anxiety([WMD(95%CI):0.35[0.23,0.48],p<0.001])and social avoidance and distress([WMD(95%CI):0.35[0.23,0.48],p<0.001]).Subgroup analyses showed significant differences in effect sizes for the overall proportion of children left behind(p=0.02).In addition, different types of parental migration may influence the social anxiety of LBC,double-parent migration was associated higher social anxiety than father migration(p<0.001).Future research should focus on treatments to decrease social anxiety of left-behind children. These findings suggest that due to the long-term absence of parental migration,LBC are more vulnerable to negative emotional experiences and behaviours such as anxiety, distress, and avoidance during social interaction, especially for those with both parents absent from the home.Future research should focus on treatments to reduce social anxiety in LBC. 展开更多
