BACKGROUND Herpes simplex virus(HSV)is a highly infectious pathogen that is easily transmitted via the bodily fluids of an infected individual.This virus usually affects individuals older than six months of age,and ra...BACKGROUND Herpes simplex virus(HSV)is a highly infectious pathogen that is easily transmitted via the bodily fluids of an infected individual.This virus usually affects individuals older than six months of age,and rarely causes lesions or symptoms in younger patients.CASE SUMMARY We present the case of a five-month-old healthy girl who presented with painful herpetic gingivostomatitis and perioral vesicles.We discuss the pathophysiology of primary HSV infection and the effect of maternal antibodies on the infant’s immune system.In addition,we explain the diagnosis,management,and prognosis of HSV infection in young infants.CONCLUSION This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of HSV infections to decrease the risk of developing severe complications and death.展开更多

Although cases of perioral burn related to electrocautery use are rarely reported complications in literature, they account for a significant portion of malpractice lawsuits. The use of insulated surgical tools and lip protective equipment, careful surgery, and the frequent control of surgical equipment may decrease the number of this complication. This study examines whether a rarely reported complication related to perioral burn is indeed rarely seen or whether there are problems in reporting the real rates because it is evaluated to be a case of malpractice, and the protective factors that will prevent this problem. Consequently, it is underlined that this complication, which is more frequently seen than it is reported, should be a part of preoperative information process and the consent form.展开更多
Lip and perioral augmentation procedures have become increasingly popular over the last two decades due to cultural trends,emphasizing youth and beauty.An understanding of lip anatomy and aesthetics has traditionally ...Lip and perioral augmentation procedures have become increasingly popular over the last two decades due to cultural trends,emphasizing youth and beauty.An understanding of lip anatomy and aesthetics has traditionally formed the basis for successful results.However,as new technology becomes available,patient standards have increased,requiring an intricate understanding of filler properties and the advantages of different technical approaches.This chapter touches on pertinent anatomy and aesthetics of perioral evaluation.It also provides an overview of the properties of the fillers currently available in the United States marketplace for perioral rejuvenation.The technique and materials currently favored by the senior author are described in greater detail.Finally,the chapter will overview potential complications and recommended management.展开更多
