Oscillator phase noise is one of the bottlenecks that limits the self-interference(SI)cancellation capability of full-duplex systems.In this paper,we propose a method for the suppression of common phase error(CPE)and intercarrier interference(ICI)induced by the phase noise in full-duplex orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)systems.First,we regard the effect of CPE as a portion of the SI channel and perform estimation,reconstruction and elimination in the time domain.Then,the ICI signal is estimated and suppressed in the frequency domain.Additionally,by analysing the performance of proposed algorithm,we further develop an iterative mechanism to reduce the parameter estimation error and improve SI cancellation capability.Simulation results show that the proposed method has a significant SI cancellation capability improvement over the traditional SI cancellation schemes. 展开更多

Stimulated Brillouin scattering-induced phase noise is harmful to interferometric fiber sensing systems. The localized fluctuating model is used to study the intensity noise caused by the stimulated Brillouin scattering in a single-mode fiber. The phase noise structure is analyzed for an interferometric fiber sensing system, and an unbalanced Michelson interferometer with an optical path difference of 1 m, as well as the phase-generated carrier technique, is used to measure the phase noise. It is found that the phase noise is small when the input power is below the stimulated Brillouin scattering threshold, increases dramatically at first and then gradually becomes flat when the input power is above the threshold, which is similar to the variation in relative intensity noise. It can be inferred that the increase in phase noise is mainly due to the broadening of the laser linewidth caused by stimulated Brillouin scattering, which is verified through linewidth measurements in the absence and presence of the stimulated Brillouin scattering. 展开更多

This paper investigates the jamming sensing performance of the simultaneous transmit and receive based cognitive anti-jamming(SCAJ) receiver impaired by phase noise in local oscillators(LO) over fading channels. Firstly, energy detection(ED)based on the jamming to noise ratio(JNR) of the high frequency bands SCAJ receiver with phase noise under different channels is analyzed. Then, the probabilities of jamming detection and false alarm in closed-form for the SCAJ receiver are derived. Finally,the modified Bayesian Cramer-Rao bound(BCRB) of jamming sensing for the SCAJ receiver is presented. Simulation results show that the performance degradation of the SCAJ system due to phase noise is more severe than that due to the channel fading in the circumstances where the signal bandwidth(BW) is kept a constant. Moreover, the signal BW has an effect on the phase noise in LO, and the jamming detection probability of the wideband SCAJ receiver with lower phase noise outperforms that of the narrowband receiver using the same center frequency. Furthermore,an accurate phase noise estimation and compensation scheme can improve the jamming detection capability of the SCAJ receiver in high frequency bands and approach to the upper bound. 展开更多

This paper addresses a computationally compact and statistically optimal joint Maximum a Posteriori(MAP)algorithm for channel estimation and data detection in the presence of Phase Noise(PHN)in iterative Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)receivers used for high speed and high spectral efficient wireless communication systems.The MAP cost function for joint estimation and detection is derived and optimized further with the proposed cyclic gradient descent optimization algorithm.The proposed joint estimation and detection algorithm relaxes the restriction of small PHN assumptions and utilizes the prior statistical knowledge of PHN spectral components to produce a statistically optimal solution.The frequency-domain estimation of Channel Transfer Function(CTF)in frequency selective fading makes the method simpler,compared with the estimation of Channel Impulse Response(CIR)in the time domain.Two different time-varying PHN models,produced by Free Running Oscillator(FRO)and Phase-Locked Loop(PLL)oscillator,are presented and compared for performance difference with proposed OFDM receiver.Simulation results for joint MAP channel estimation are compared with Cramer-Rao Lower Bound(CRLB),and the simulation results for joint MAP data detection are compared with“NO PHN"performance to demonstrate that the proposed joint MAP estimation and detection algorithm achieve near-optimum performance even under multipath channel fading. 展开更多

The performance of such systems is affected by the phase noise of the microwave local oscillator. The phase noise model of synthesizer and the RF transceiver model for the phase noise effect are proposed for applications of TD-SCDMA systems. The relationship between the power spectral density (PSD) and root mean square (RMS) phase error is given. Then, the error vector magnitude (EVM) performance is analytically evaluated by using the single side band (SSB) phase noise. Theoretical results show agreement with those obtained by measurement data and therefore can be used to derive the TD-SCDMA system performance. 展开更多

However, OFDM systems are very sensitive to the phase noise, which causes the CPE (common phase error) and ICI (inter-carrier interference), and thus degrades the system performance significantly. Based on the IEEE 802.11a standard, a simplified iterative phase noise mitigation algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm has very low complexity, and requires no additional pilot information. The simulation result shows that good BER performance can be achieved through several few times of iteration. 展开更多

In this paper, we demonstrate the residual phase noise of a few microwave frequency dividers which usually limit the performance of frequency synthesizers. In order to compare these dividers under different operation frequencies, we calculate additional time jitters of these dividers by using the measured phase noise. The time jitters are various from -0.1 fs to 43 fs in a bandwidth from 1 Hz to 100 Hz in dependent of models and operation frequencies. The HMC series frequency dividers exhibit outstanding performance for high operation frequencies, and the time jitters can be sub-fs. The time jitters of SP8401, MC10EP139, and MC100LVEL34 are comparable or even below that of HMC series for low operation frequencies. 展开更多

Sharing ground w ith fully integrated loop filter,the PM OS-only VCO achieves a zero-bias scheme,w hich prevents tuning line noise from disturbing VCO output common-mode voltage and hence minimizes phase noise caused by nonlinear C-V characteristic of varactors. Top-biased current source is optimized by multi-stage filtering to reduce 1/f flicker and thermal noise. Fabricated in TSM C 180 nm CM OS process,the proposed VCO exhibits a measured oscillation frequency of 0.85 ~ 1.45 GHz,w ith a phase noise of-121.8 ^-131.3 dBc/Hz @ 1MHz offset over the w hole band. For improving the phase noise, filtering technique is used and VCO is designed with TSMC CMOS 0.18 μm technology and the power supply is 1.5 V. The simulation results with advanced design system (ADS) shows that phase noise in 1 MHz offset frequency from the carrier is -122 dBc/Hz and tuning range is 2 to 2.8 GHz. We demonstrate coherent optical frequency dissemination over a distance of 972 km by cascading two spans where the phase noise is passively compensated for.Instead of employing a phase discriminator and a phase locking loop in the conventional active phase control scheme,the passive phase noise cancellation is realized by feeding double-trip beat-note frequency to the driver of the acoustic optical modulator at the local site.This passive scheme exhibits fine robustness and reliability,making it suitable for long-distance and noisy fiber links.An optical regeneration station is used in the link for signal amplification and cascaded transmission.The phase noise cancellation and transfer instability of the 972-km link is investigated,and transfer instability of 1.1×10^(-19)at 10^(4)s is achieved.This work provides a promising method for realizing optical frequency distribution over thousands of kilometers by using fiber links. 展开更多

This paper proposes a regenerator based on semiconductor optical amplifier for differential phase-shift keying signals. The key regeneration mechanism is theoretically analysed. The effectiveness of semiconductor optical amplifier based regenerator is demonstrated by comparing the bit error rate and eye diagrams before and after regeneration for 40-Cbit/s differential phase-shift keying 1080-km transmission systems. A regenerator based on the discrimitive gain effect of a semiconductor optical amplifier was proposed in recent years. In this paper, for this type of regenerator, its optimal working condition is found by solving the dynamic equations which describe the variance of the optical field and carrier density in the semiconductor optical amplifier by the finite difference method. We have demonstrated a distributed vibration sensor based on phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometer (φ-OTDR) system exhibiting immunity to the laser phase noise. Two laser sources with different linewidth and phase noise levels are used in the φ-OTDR system, respectively. Based on the phase noise power spectrum density of both lasers, the laser phase is almost unchanged during an extremely short period of time, hence, the impact of phase noise can be suppressed effectively through phase difference between the Rayleigh scattered light from two adjacent sections of the fiber which define the gauge length. Based on the phase difference method, the external vibration can be located accurately at 41.01 km by the(φ-OTDR system incorporating these two lasers. Meanwhile, the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the retrieved vibration signal by using Laser I is found to be -37.7 dB, which is comparable to that of -37.5 dB by using Laser II although the linewidth and the phase noise level of the two lasers are distinct. The obtained results indicate that the phase difference method can enhance the performance of(φ-OTDR system with laser phase-noise immunity for distributed vibration sensing, showing potential application in oil-gas pipeline monitoring, perimeter security, and other fields. 展开更多

Here, a new combination of DFF has been introduced in the DMP. By means of the cooperation and coordination among three types, DFF, SCL, TPSC, and CMOS static flip-flop, the DMP demonstrates high speed, wideband, and low power consumption with low phase noise. The chip has been fabricated in a 0.18μm CMOS process of SMIC. The measured results show that the DMP's operating frequency is from 0.9 to 3.4 GHz with a maximum power consumption of 2.51 mW under a 1.8 V power supply and the phase noise is -134.78 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from the 3.4 GHz carrier. The core area of the die without PAD is 57 x 30 #m2. Due to its excellent performance, the DMP could be applied to a PLL-based frequency synthesizer for many RF systems, especially for multi-standard radio applications. 展开更多

The presented VCO solves the problem by designing a set of changeable varactor units. The whole VCO was implemented in a 0.18μm CMOS process. The measured result shows -120 dBc/Hz phase noise at 1 MHz offset. The measured tuning range is from 4.2 to 5 GHz and the tuning gain is 8-10 MHz/V.
