The method for determining P CO 2 in the atmosphere and water by using gas chromatography was studied. For determination of P CO 2 in the atmosphere, a sampling method was developed in which the chromatograph was connected to a 6 port valve with a sampling pipe opening to the atmosphere, so gas pressure in the sampling pipe was identical to that of the atmosphere. A semi automatic seawater atmosphere equilibrium system was designed to determine the P CO 2 in seawater. The equilibrium chamber contained in situ seawater and the well equilibrated gas was pushed into the sampling pipe by sample water, so pressure and temperature calibration could be avoided. This method has high accuracy for the determination of P CO 2 in the air and seawater, and was used for in situ determination of P CO 2 in the atmosphere and of the seawater sample in the JGOFS cruise in the East China Sea. 展开更多

A pulse-discharge helium ionization detector(Valco, PD-D3-I) was used to measure xenon concentration in air. The dependences of the detector relative response on various gas chromatograph parameters were investigated. Based on the well prepared gas connections for the detector system and optimized gas chromatography(GC) working conditions, the atmospheric xenon concentration could be measured by the cheap GC method with a detection level of 0.7×10-9(parts by volume). Moreover, the xenon concentration in the ground level air around our laboratory was measured with the result of 0.085×10-6(parts by volume) and RSD of 0.91%. 展开更多

The aim of this work was to determine the level of benzene, toluene, o-xylene and m, p-xylene (BTX) in air samples collected from the cabins of new and used vehicles of the same model. Ten new vehicles were examined... The aim of this work was to determine the level of benzene, toluene, o-xylene and m, p-xylene (BTX) in air samples collected from the cabins of new and used vehicles of the same model. Ten new vehicles were examined in order to check interior emission from materials used to equip the passenger compartment. In order to compare and define the impact of exhaust gases, air samples were also collected from two used cars, at different mileages (up to 20,000 kin). All vehicles tested were of the same type. Samples were collected onto Carbograph 1TD sorbent, thermally desorbed and examined with the use of gas chromatography with flame ionisation and mass spectrometry detectors. All results obtained were referred to Polish and German requirements for indoor air quality (both in public buildings and in workspace environments). Average benzene, toluene, o-xylene and m, p-xylene concentrations in new cars were determined at the level of 11.8 μg/m^3, 82.7 μg/m^3, 21.2 μg/m^3 and 89.5 μg/m^3, respectively. In the used cars, BTX concentration increased with increasing vehicle mileage. The most significant increase of BTX concentration was observed above 11,000 km mileage. 展开更多
