Vertical Distribution and Seasonal Dynamics of Fine Root Parameters for Apple Trees of Different Ages on the Loess Plateau of China 被引量:10

The vertical distribution pattern and seasonal dynamics of fine root parameters for the apple trees of different ages (3, 10, 15, and 20 years old) on the Loess Plateau of China were studied. Soil coring method was used to determine the vertical distribution and seasonal dynamics of fine roots at different root radial distances (1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 m from the main tree trunk). The fine root biomass density (FRD), fine root length density (RLD), and specific root length (SRL), as well as soil water content and soil temperature were also measured. The FRD and RLD for the 10, 15, and 20 years old trees reached peak values in the 20-30 cm soil layer. For the 3 years old tree, the highest FRD and RLD were observed in the 10-20 cm soil layer. The FRD and RLD decreased with increased soil depth from the 10-20 or 20-30 cm soil layer for all age apple trees. The SRL declined with the increase of tree age. The FRD at the 1.0 m radial distance from the main tree trunk was higher than that at other radial distances in the 3 and 10 years old orchard. However, in the 15 and 20 years old orchards, especially the 20 years old orchard, the FRD at the 2.0 m radial distance was nearly equal to or higher than that at the 1.0 and 1.5 m radial distances. For all the root radiuses or the tree ages, the FRD, RLD, and SRL were the highest in spring and the lowest in autumn. The age of an apple tree does not affect the vertical distribution pattern but the biomass of fine roots and the SRL. Radial distance affects the root horizontal distribution of 3 and 10 years old trees but the 15 and 20 years old trees. Additionally, effects of soil temperature and soil moisture on fine root distribution or seasonal dynamics are not significant. 展开更多

Six-year old apple trees were selected for field experiment.The objective of this study was to obtain the reasonable arrangement of surge-root irrigation emitters in apple orchards.There were three factors:the buried depth H(25,40,55 cm),the horizontal distance L(30,40,60 cm)between the emitters and the trunk of the experimental tree,and the number of the irrigation emitters N(1,2,4).The effect of the arrangement of surge-root irrigation emitters on the growth,yield and irrigation water use efficiency(IWUE)of apple trees were studied in Northern Shaanxi where the irrigation quota takes 60%-75%of the field water capacity.The results showed that the arrangement of emitters for surge-root irrigation had a significant effect on apple tree yield and IWUE,especially,the yield and IWUE reached 28388.17 kg/hm2 and 16.83 kg/m3 in treatment T3,respectively.At the same L and N levels(T1,T2,and T3),the yield and IWUE in treatment T3 were the highest,and the yields in treatments T1 and T2 were decreased by 26.22%and 31.48%,while IWUE is reduced by14.02%and 18.12%compared with T3,respectively.At the same H and N levels(T3,T4,and T5),the yield and IWUE of apple trees were decreased with increasing L level.Especially,when L was 30 cm(T3),the yield and IWUE were the highest.The same L and H levels(T3,T6,and T7)could promote the growth of apple trees when N was 2(T3).Compared with treatment T3,it was found that the increment of new shoots was decreased by 8.07%-18.71%,and the fruit diameter was decreased by 5.41%-9.11%.Therefore,two emitters should be arranged symmetrically on both sides of an apple tree,each was buried at a 40 cm depth and 30 cm away from the trunk of the tree to effectively improve the yield and IWUE of the apple tree in mountainous areas in Northern Shaanxi. 展开更多

The effect of different Zn application methods on the regularity of Zn transportation and nutrition was studied. It was found that the storage of Zn in the branches was greatly increased by foliar application of the solution of 15% ZnSO4·7H2O before abscission. It had advantage to keep suitable Zn content in leaves, branches and roots, as well as between Zn and P and K, which increased Zn transportation and reusability. Zn content in roots increased when Zn was used in soil in autumn. However, the absorbed Zn did not transport to the top of the plant. It was used by the plant next year. Foliar application of ZnSO4·7H2O at early stage of the plant growth enhanced Zn content of the branch. However, the effect was kept for a short time. It had little effect on Zn transportation when Zn was sprayed three weeks after blossoming. 展开更多

Using the PROSAIL radiation transfer model and HJ-1A-HSI data to simulate the canopy reflectivity of apple trees, this study lays the foundation for the inversion of canopy parameters. Taking Qixia City of Yantai City, Shandong Province as the research area, the apple tree was taken as the research object, and the hyperspectral reflectance, LAI and sample GPS of apple canopy were measured in the field. The parameters required for the PROSAIL model were obtained by experimental methods. The model simulates the reflectivity;the HSI image data is preprocessed, and the canopy reflectivity is extracted by GPS coordinates. The PROSAIL model and the HSI image simulated reflectance were fitted to the measured apple canopy reflectivity. The decisive factor (R2) of the simulated reflectance and the measured reflectance of the PROSAIL model was 0.9944, and the relative error (RE%)was 0.1845. The HSI data simulated reflectance and measured reflectance. The coefficient of determination is 0.9714 and the relative error is 0.6202. Both have achieved good fitting effects and can be used for inversion studies of apple canopy parameters. 展开更多

The results showed that the taperingness of central trunk of free spindle dwarf-shoot Fuji apple treeshad negative correlations with each factor of inserted small branch, while the taperingness of central trunk of free spin- dle long-shoot Fuji apple treeshad positive correlations with each factor of inserted small branch, the taperingness of central trunk of slenderspindle short-shootFuji ap- ple treeshad negative correlation with total thickness of inserted small branch, but had positive correlations with other factors. Method: Use Multiple Scattering Correction to eliminate the interference of scattering on spectrum in the process of field measurement so as to improve the accuracy of prediction model of tree canopy nitrogen content. Apple trees in Qixia of Yantai City were taken as the test material. The spectral reflectivity of apple tree canopy went through the First Derivative (FD) and Multiple Scattering Correction (MSC) plus first derivative, respectively. The correlation coefficients were calculated between spectral reflectivity and nitrogen content. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) method was used to establish the prediction model. The result indicates that the MSC pre-processing can improve the correlation between spectral reflectivity and nitrogen content. The SVM model with MSC + FD pre-processing was a good way to predict the nitrogen content. The calibration R<sup>2</sup> of the model was 0.746;the validation R2 was 0.720;and its RMSE was 0.452 g·kgˉ<sup>1</sup>. MSC can commendably eliminate scattering error to improve the prediction accuracy of prediction model. 展开更多

Responses of ABA and CTK to soil drought in leafless and leafy apple tree 被引量:1

The authors tested the contents of ABA (abscisic acid), ZR (zeatin riboside), DHZR (dihydrozeatin riboside) and iPA (isopentenyl adenosine) in leafless and leafy apple trees (\%Red Fuji/Malus micromalus Makino\%) during soil drought stress. ABA concentration in drought stressed leafless trees increased significantly compared to the controls. ABA both in roots and xylem rose steadily in the earlier drought stage, reaching a maximum of 1.46±0.35 nmol g\+\{ 1\}FW and 117 nmol l\+\{-1\} after the 8th day. Similar change patterns of ABA concentration was observed in the leafy trees during soil drought stress; ABA concentrations in roots and xylem sap increased and reached the maximum in the first three days; after 8th day , it decreased slightly, whereas leaf ABA concentration increased steadily in drought stressed plants throughout the duration of the experiment. Between drought stressed and control trees, no significant differences were observed in concentration of ZR and DHZR in both leafless and leafy trees; whereas iPA concentration of the drought stressed leafless and leafy plants decreased markedly in the later stage of drought. These results showed that endogenous ABA originated mainly from the roots in the earlier drought stage, and mainly from the leaves in the later drought stage. Total CTK showed no reduction in the earlier drought stage and decreased in the later drought stage. 展开更多

[ Method] ' Tianhong 2' Fuji /SH40/Malus robusta Rehd. was used as the experimental material to analyze the effects of different irrigation modes and combinations of basal fertilizer and dressing fertilizer on tree structure, leaf parameters and photosynthesis of apple saplings. [ Result] The results showed that different water and fertilizer combinations ex- hibited varying effects on tree structure, leaf parameters and photosynthesis of apple saplings. To be specific, applying 432 000 kg/hm2 basal fertilizer, 480 kg/hm2 urea and 915 kg/hmz organic fertilizer + 0 + 915 kg/hm2 organic fertilizer as dressing fertilizer, and 1% urea as leaf fertilizer was conducive to promoting growth of branches and leaves, increasing leaf thickness, individual leaf area and SPAD, and improving photosynthesis of apple saplings under half root irrigation and whole root irrigation conditions. In addition, the effects were more significant under whole root irrigation conditions. Effects of Different Density-reducing Methods on Canopy Microenvironment, Tree Growth and Fruit Quality in Closed Apple Orchard

In order to optimize and transform closed mature apple orchards with standard rootstocks and improve the quality of fruit,taking a closed Red Fuji apple orchard as the test object,the effects of different density-reducing methods(deinterlacing,removing every other plant in each row,removing every other plant every other row)on the canopy microenvironment,tree structure,leaf photosynthesis and fruit quality were studied.The results showed that different density-reducing methods significantly reduced the orchard coverage and increased the crown transmittance.Among them,the deinterlacing treatment was the best in improving the population structure of the closed orchard,as it reduced the orchard coverage rate by 55.68 percentage points and the canopy transmittance by 82.38 percentage points,compared with the control(CK).Different density-reducing methods all could significantly reduce the branch amount in the closed orchard and optimized the branch composition.The three density-reducing methods decreased the number of branches per plant by 18.96%,12.41%and 19.58%,respectively,compared with the CK.And compared with the CK,the proportion of short branches and leafy branches to the total branches was increased by 17.13%,14.27%and 7.37%,respectively,and the proportion of long branches and developmental branches to the total branches was decreased by 24.47%,18.04%and 10.79%,respectively.The effects of the different density-reducing methods on the temperature,relative light intensity,SPAD and leaf photosynthetic rate in canopies all followed an order of deinterlacing>removing every other plant in each row>removing every other plant every other row>CK,while those on the relative humidity showed an order of deinterlacing>removing every other plant in each row>removing every other plant every other row>CK,while those on the relative humidity showed an order of deinterlacing<removing every other plant in each row<removing every other plant every other row<CK.The average single fruit weight(238.3 g),coloring index(89.2),smoothness index(83.2),soluble solid content(15.1%)and high quality fruit rate(82.4%)of the deinterlacing treatment were higher than those of other treatments,and the values were 18.2%,11.4%,5.85%,26.9%and 25.2%higher than the CK,respectively.The use of dein ̄terlacing to reduce density is the best for improving the microenvironment of closed apple orchards and improving the photosynthetic efficiency and fruit quality. 展开更多

The author establishes parallel corpus of The Apple Tree by John Galsworthy and two translated Chinese versions by Huang Zixiang and Dong Hengxun.Wordsmith and ICTCLAS are applied to make a quantitative study on the linguistic features of the source and the target language.A comparative study is made on the translation skills and styles of the two Chinese versions.Translation samples are analyzed and appreciated.It is concluded that the form and the literal meaning of the source language is retained more in Huang’s version while the implied meaning is conveyed more in Dong’s version,with more standard,fluent,and natural Chinese and more flexible sentence structures.The socio-cultural contexts of the two translators are also considered in analyzing their styles and translation choices. 展开更多

The nutrient inversion model of apple leaves was established by spectral analysis technology to provide technical support for the fine management of apple trees.In Shuangquan Town,Changqing District,Jinan City,Shandong Province,the Fuji apple trees with stopping period of spring shoots were taken as research objects.The spectral reflectance and nitrogen content of apple leaves were measured by ASD Field Spec 4 portable ground object spectrometer.Analyzed the correlation between leaf nitrogen content and spectral reflectance.The sensitive wavelengths with high correlation coefficient were select by fractional differential algorithm,and the optimal vegetation index was constructed and screened out.Partial Least Square Regression(PLSR),Support Vector Machine(SVM)and Random Forests(RF)method were used to construct an inversion model of leaf nitrogen content.The results show that the RF model based on fractional differential second-order treatment is the best inversion model for the nitrogen content of leaves during stopping period of spring shoots.The modeling accuracy determination coefficient R2 reached 0.891,RMSE was 0.0841,and RPD was 2.1396.The determination coefficient R2 of the fitting results of the verification set was 0.617,RMSE was 0.1251,and RPD was 1.7105.The inversion model established by RF method is effective in monitoring the nitrogen content in apple leaves,which provides a theoretical basis for monitoring the growth of apple by hyperspectral technology. 展开更多

[Ohjective] The aim of the study is to investigate the productivity and light quality in two high density M26 dwarf rootstock apple orchards in central China so as to provide some management guidance for close planting of dwarf rootstock apples.[Method] The technical parameters of individual trees and group parameters as shoot number and composition and canopy coverage were determined, and the light quality in the canopy, fruit production and quality were investigated. [Result] Slender spindle (SS) orchard has 54 thousands shoots per 667 m^2. Coverage rate is 76%. Leaf area index is 1.9. The ratio of long, medium and spur shoots is 1:1:8. Fruit yield is 3 263 kg/667 m^2 with 85% first grade fruit. Light interception in the canopy is 58% while the ratio of canopy with good light is 65%. Modified slender spindle (MSS) orchard has 93 thousands shoots per 667 m^2 and the coverage is 77%. Leaf area index is 3.3. The ratio cf long, medium and spur shoots is 1:2:7. Fruit yield is 3 931 kg/667 m^2 with 85% first grade fruit. The light interception in the canopy is 73% while the ratio of canopy with good light is 35%. [Conclusion] Apple orchard with M26 dwarf rootstock trained as SS and MSS tree form in medium planting density may be useful to the management of the similar orchards in Central China. 展开更多

The bio-control trials of C. spirale ND35 against the Valsa Canker of apple were preliminarily investigated. The results of dual culture on PDA plate showed that C. spirale ND35 was capable of strong antagonism against Valsa ceratosperma, and for inhibiting the mycelial growth of V. ceratosperma,.the crude extract of liquid culture of corn steep powder broth was more effective than that one of malt extract broth (MEB). The results of bio-control in greenhouse and field indicated that the disease incidence of apple tree treated with C. spirale ND35 was lower significantly than that treated by other methods. The re-isolation experiment suggested that C. spirale ND35 could colonize in stems and branches of apple trees successfully, and the ND35 colonization rate of the treatment with solid wheat bran culture was higher than that of corn steep powder broth, but the field experiment result the control effect of liquid culture of C. spirale ND35 was better than that of solid culture. 展开更多

The aim of this study is to establish the estimation model of potassium content in apple leaves by using vegetation index. A total of 96 fresh apple leaves were collected from 24 orchards in Qixia County, Shandong Province. The spectral reflectance of the leaves was measured by ASD FieldSpec4. The difference vegetation index (DVI), ratio vegetation index (RVI) and normalized vegetation index (NDVI) were used to make the contour map through Matlab platform, and the combination of high correlation wavelength was selected to establish the random forest (RF) regression model of potassium content. The hyperspectral reflectance increased with the increase of leaf potassium content. The correlation between DVI and the content of potassium is higher than NDVI and RVI. The optimal vegetation index was DVI (364,740), the correlation coefficient was 0.5355. The random forest regression model established with DVI selected vegetation index was the best. R2 was 0.8995, RMSE and RE% were 0.0791 and 0.0617 respectively. Using DVI to establish the random forest regression model to reverse the potassium content of apple leaves has achieved good results. It is important to determine the growth status of apple in hyperspectral and to determine the potash fertilizer of apple trees. 展开更多

Managing irrigation of fruit trees using plant water status

Optimum growth and production of fruit crops is strongly linked to managing irrigation water. Various method of estimating tree water requirements have been utilized such as direct and indirect soil, water, and climatic measurements. Due to differences in fruit tree anatomical and morphological structures and their adaptation to excess and deficit soil water content, such estimates of irrigation water requirements may be more suitable for herbaceous plants but not as accurate for trees. Studies on temperate and tropical fruit trees, using apple (Malus domestica) and star-fruit (Averrhoa carambola), respectively, showed that tree water potential is highly correlated to soil water status. Irrigation based on climate data (ET) and monitoring of soil water resulted in no significant differences in soil or tree water status of orchard-grown fruit trees under temperate and subtropical climatic conditions. The results indicated the need for better understanding and utilization of tree physiological parameters for management of irrigation water of fruit crops. This will ultimately lead to achieving optimum yield and fruit quality while conserving water resources. 展开更多

The apple orchard in Qixia City, Yantai City, Shandong Province was used as the research area. The nitrogen content inversion of apple canopy was studied by using the satellite remote sensing images of GF-1. On the basis of GF-1 satellite multispectral image preprocessing, vegetation index was extracted by band math. The nitrogen sensitive vegetation index of apple canopy was selected by correlation analysis of nitrogen content in apple canopy. The best inversion model for the nitrogen content of apple canopy was selected by establishing the regression model of univariate and multivariate factors. The nitrogen content of the canopy of apple orchard in the study area was inverted in space. The results showed that the 6 vegetation indices of RVI, NDVI, EVI, VARI, NPCI and NRI were better correlated with nitrogen content in the vegetation index based on GF-1 satellite multispectral imaging. The best inversion model of nitrogen content in apple canopy layer is the multivariate stepwise regression (MSR) model: Nc = 35.74– 41.978^*NPCI-10.78^*NDVI. The R^2 and RMSE of the model was 0.69 and 1.07. The spatial inversion of nitrogen content in apple orchard canopy was obtained. This study provided theoretical basis and technical support for large-area rapid monitoring of regional fruit tree nutrients. 展开更多
