Surface Morphology and Thermo-Electrical Energy Analysis of Polyaniline (PANI) Incorporated Cotton Fabric

With the exponential development in wearable electronics,a significant paradigm shift is observed from rigid electronics to flexible wearable devices.Polyaniline(PANI)is considered as a dominant material in this sector,as it is endowed with the optical properties of both metal and semiconductors.However,its widespread application got delineated because of its irregular rigid form,level of conductivity,and precise choice of solvents.Incorporating PANI in textile materials can generate promising functionality for wearable applications.This research work employed a straightforward in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization to synthesize PANI on Cotton fabric surfaces with varying dopant(HCl)concentrations.Pre-treatment using NaOH is implemented to improve the conductivity of the fabric surface by increasing the monomer absorption.This research explores the morphological and structural analysis employing SEM,FTIR and EDX.The surface resistivity was measured using a digital multimeter,and thermal stability is measured using TGA.Upon successful polymerization,a homogenous coating layer is observed.It is revealed that the simple pre-treatment technique significantly reduces the surface resistivity of Cotton fabric to 1.27 kΩ/cm with increasing acid concentration and thermal stability.The electro-thermal energy can also reach up to 38.2°C within 50 s with a deployed voltage of 15 V.The modified fabric is anticipated to be used in thermal regulation,supercapacitor,sensor,UV shielding,antimicrobial and other prospective functional applications. 展开更多

This electrodepreparation consists of a two-step procedure: first electropolymerization of aniline onto carbonfiber and then electrodeposition of platinum. The catalytic activity of theplatinum-polyanihne-modified carbon fiber electrode (Pt/PAni/C) was compared with that of a barecarbon fiber electrode (Pt/C) by the oxidation of methanol. The maximum oxidation current ofmethanol on Pt/PAni/C is 50.7 mA centre dot cm^(-2), which is 6.7 times higher than 7.6 mA centredot cm^(-2) on the Pt/C. The direct coating of graphene sheets obtained by electrochemical exfoliation on commercial paper renders the preparation of highly conductive flexible paper substrate for subsequent deposition of polyaniline (PANi) nanorods via electrochemical polymerization. The deposit ion of PANi can be well-controlled by adjusting the electrochemical polymerization time, leading to the formation of PANi coated graphene paper (PANi-GP). The as-prepared electrode exhibited high areal capacitance of 176 mF cm^-2 in three-electrode system at a current density of 0.2 mA cm^-2 which is around 10 times larger than that of pris-tine graphene paper due to the pseudocapacitive behavior of PANi. In-situ Raman test was used to determine the molecular changes during redox process of PANi. More importantly, all-solid-state symmetric capacitor assembled with two PANi-GP electrodes in a polymer electrolyte delivered an areal capacitanee of 123 mF cm^-2, corresponding to an areal energy density of 17.1 μWh cm^-2 and an areal power density of 0.25 mW cm^-2. The symmetric capacitor held a capacitive retention of 74.8% after 500 bending tests from 0 to 120°, suggesting the good flexibility and mechanical stability. These results showed the great promising application in flexible energy-storage devices. 展开更多

This paper describes the preparation of a membrane of polyacrylonitrile(PAN)and its corresponding membrane coated with polyaniline(PANI)for the adsorption of heavy metal ions.Scanning electron microscopy micrographs revealed that all the membranes exhibited nanofibrous morphology.The prepared membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The prepared membranes were used as an adsorbent for hazardous heavy metal ions Pb^(2+) and Cr_(2)O^(2-)_(7).The adsorption capacity and the removal efficiency of the membranes were examined as function of the initial adsorbate concentration and pH of the medium.Coated membranes with PANI showed better adsorption performance and their direct current(DC)conductivities were correlated to heavy metal ion concentrations.Adsorption isotherms were also performed,and the adsorption process was tested according to the Langmuir and Freundlich models.The regeneration and reuse of the prepared membranes to re-adsorb heavy metal ions were also investigated.The enhancement in adsorption performance and reusability of PANI-coated membranes in comparison with non-coated ones is fully discussed.The results show that the maximum adsorption capacities of lead and chromate ions on the PANI-coated membranes are 290.12 and 1202.53 mg/g,respectively. 展开更多

The effects of alkaline cations (M^+ = Li^+, Na^+, K^+, Cs^+)on the electrochemical synthesis of polyaniline were carfled out under cyclovoltammetric conditions using nitrates of Li^+, Na^+, K^+, and Cs^+ as the supporting electrolytes. The results show that the oxidation potentials of aniline in the electrolytes decrease as the protonation extent of aniline decreases from the fast scan, which is caused by the decrease of the ionic radius of alkaline metal ions at the same concentration of alkaline cations. With the scan number increasing, the deposit charge Q as the characteristic growth function also depends on the protonation of aniline, and it increases with the ionic radius of alkaline cations increasing. SEM images show the effect of alkaline cations on the morphology of polyaniline. It is clear that the ionic mobility of alkaline cations is further lower than that of W. Alkaline cations and counter-ions were the species responsible for the enhancement of Pani electrosynthesis. Therefore, this is exactly what SEM images show: a relatively rough fibrous structure in the case of Pani-H^+ suggesting a sponge-like structure and a highly orderly fiber-like structure in the case of Pani-M^+. 展开更多

Combined nitric acid oxidation method and polyaniline (PANI)-coated method were applied to modify the surface properties of short carbon fibers (SCF). The electrical and mechanical properties of acrylic coatings with 50 wt pct PANI-coated carbon fiber were investigated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), UV-Vis spectrophotometer, four-probe method and the coaxial cable method. The results of the pH measurement and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) patterns showed that the oxygen functional groups, such as -OH and -COOH, were attached on the carbon fiber surfaces after oxidation treatment. The XPS analysis of PANl-coated oxidized SCF (PAOSCF) revealed that PANI may bond on the surface of oxidized SCF with chemical bonds. SEM images and surface roughness analyses showed that PANl-coated layer changed the surface morphology. Compared with SCF/acrylic coating, the surface resistivity of PAOSCF/acrylic coating decreased from17.1 to 5.3 Ω/sq and the shielding efficiency (SE) value increased from 1.54 to 23.3 dB. 展开更多

Polyaniline(PANI) was one of the most extensively studied adsorbents due to its low cost and good environmental stability. The objective of the current study was to improve the selective capabilities of PANI for anionic dyes. We found that the acid doped PANI prepared with hydrochloric acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid(PTSA) could selectively adsorb anionic dyes. It exhibited very good selectivity for OG dye, the mechanism was proposed based on the chemical interaction of PANI with the sulfonate group of the dyes. The effects of solution p H, initial dye concentration, and different HCl/PTSA mole ratios on the adsorption capacity of OG have been investigated. Kinetic simulations indicated that the adsorption process could be well represented by pseudo-second-order kinetic plots. The isothermal adsorption curve fitting also showed that the adsorption process could be well described by the Langmuir isothermal equation. The results showed that acid doped PANI could be employed as a promising adsorbent for anion removal from dye wastewater. 展开更多

Polyaniline (PANI) composite nanotubes (90-130 nm in diameter) containing titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (about 10 nm in diameter) were synthesized through a self-assembly process in the presence of a-naphthalenesulfonic acid (a-NSA) as the dopant. It was found that PANI-TiO2 composites and PANI nanotubes both behaved with significant photocatalytic activities towards AZO dyes, during 2 h photocatalytic processes under natural light, the degradation ratio was 94.2% and 97.2% respectively (methyl orange and orange II). The morphology of such products was characterized by SEM. The specific surface area of such composite nanotubes was 14.7 m2/g compared to normal polyaniline which was 0.27 m2/g. IR and X-ray diffraction characterizations showed that the chemical chain of the composite nanotubes was identical to that of the doped PANI. It may provide a new way for photodegradation of organic contaminants by using conjugated polymer with dimensional structure. 展开更多

This study presents the fabrication and investigation (PANI) composite films. A blend of 3 wt.% OD with 1 of humidity sensors based on orange dye (OD) and polyaniline wt.% PANI was prepared in 1 ml water. The composite films were deposited on glass substrates between pre-deposited silver electrodes. The gap between the electrodes was 45 um. The sensing mechanism was based on the impedance and capacitance variations due to the absorption/desorption of water vapor. It was observed that with the increase in relative humidity (RH) from 30% to 90%, the impedance decreases by 5.2 × 10^4 and 8.8 × 10^3 times for the frequencies of 120 Hz and 1 kHz, respectively. The impedance-humidity relationship showed a more uniform change compared to the capacitance-humidity relationship in the RH range of 30% to 90%. The consequence of annealing, measuring frequency, response and recovery time, and absorption-desorption behavior of the humidity sensor were also discussed in detail. The annealing resulted in an increase in sensitivity of up to 2.5 times, while the measured response time and recovery time were 34 s and 450 s, respectively. In this strategy, the PANI nanofibers were fabricated by electrochemical deposition by using two-electrode configuration in 0.01 M aniline and 0.01 M H_2SO_4 electrolytes. The as-prepared materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The electrochemical properties of the PANI nanofibers electrode as supercapacitor materials were investigated. The PANI nanofibers electrode showed high capacitance of 485 F·g^(-1)at 0.1 A·g^(-1), and the decrease in the specific capacitance is about 3.5% in 1 000 cycles. The results indicate that the PANI nanofibers electrode shows high stability and retains its electrochemical capacitance property over 1 000 cycles, suggesting PANI nanofibers have promising applications in high-performance supercapacitors. 展开更多

It was found that the formation probability, morphology, and diameter of the resulting PAni-TSA nanofibers were sensitive to the synthetic conditions, such as reaction temperature, the molar ratio of TSA to aniline, and the concentration of TSA in the polymerization media. The molecular structure was characterized by using the FT-IR, Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction, which shows that the main chain structure of PAni-TSA nanofibers was in agreement with that of granular PAni. 展开更多

Chemically modified ordered mesoporous carbon CMK-3 materials were prepared by means of an easy wet-oxidative method in 2 mol/L nitric acid aqueous solution. A large amount of oxygen-containing functional groups were introduced onto the CMK-3 surface. Modified CMK-3(m-CMK-3) and aniline monomer were polymerized via an in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method. Morphological characterizations of m-CMK-3/PANI (polyaniline) composites were carried out via field emission scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Their electrochemical properties were investigated with cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The m-CMK-3/PANI composites have excellent properties in capacitance, and the highest specific capacitance(SC) value was up to 489 F/g, suggesting their potential application in the electrode material for electrochemical capacitors. 展开更多

Lead zirconate titanate ( PZT ) / polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) 0-3 piezoelectric composites doped with polyaniline (PANI) were obtained by hot-press method. The polarization properties of the composites were characterized by XRD and P- E hysteresis loops at room temperature. And the dielectric and piezoelectric properties were also measured. The results show that the poling of PZT could be effectively carried oat and the dielectric constant e, and dissipation tanδ increase monatonously by increasing the volume fraction of PANI in the composite. The piezoelectric constant d33, and the planar electromechanical coupling factor kp increase while the mechanical quality factor Qm decreases with the increase in the content of PANI. The d33, kp and Qm show the extremum values at 8 vol%-10 vol% PANI. 展开更多

MIL-53(Fe)/polyaniline(PANI) composite was prepared by in situ depositing PANI on the surface of MIL-53(Fe) and their catalytic performances on the simultaneous removal of Rh B and Cr(Ⅵ) were investigated. The elimination efficiency of both RhB and Cr(Ⅵ) reached more than 98% under pH = 2 where hydrochloric acid and citric acid were used to adjust the pH. The results indicated that MIL-53(Fe)/PANI revealed an obvious pH response to the degradation of RhB, while citric acid promoted the Cr(Ⅵ)photoreduction. UV–Vis spectra, EIS, and photocurrent response experiments showed that MIL-53(Fe)/PANI had a better light response and carrier migration ability than MIL-53(Fe). The transient absorption spectra also exhibited that the lifetimes of photo-generated carriers were prolonged after the conductive polymer deposition on the MIL-53(Fe) surface. Scavenger experiments demonstrated that the main active species were·O;-and·OH. Combined with activity evaluation results, and the possible photocatalytic mechanism of MIL-53(Fe)/PANI on RhB oxidation and Cr(Ⅵ) reduction was proposed. The addition of conductive polymer can effectively improve the light response of the catalyst under acidic conditions, and meanwhile citric acid also provided a new mediation for the synergistic degradation of multiple pollutants. Good activity and stability of the catalysts made the scale-up purification of acid water feasible under UV–Vis light. 展开更多

Tuning and optimization of electronic structures and related reaction energetics are critical toward the rational design of efficient electrocatalysts.Herein,experimental and theoretical calculation demonstrate the originally inert N site within polyaniline(PANI)can be activated for hydrogen evolution by proper d-πinterfacial electronic coupling with metal oxide.As a result,the assynthesized WO3 assemblies@PANI via a facile redox-induced assembly and in situ polymerization,exhibits the electrocatalytic production of hydrogen better than other control samples including W18O49@PANI and most of the reported nobel-metal-free electrocatalysts,with low overpotential of 74 mV at 10 mA·cm−2 and small Tafel slope of 46 mV·dec−1 in 0.5M H2SO4(comparable to commercial Pt/C).The general efficacy of this methodology is also validated by extension to other metal oxides such as MoO3 with similar improvements. 展开更多
