We refer to these fluids as classical thermoviscoelastic polymeric fluids. The conservation and balance laws of CCM constitute the core of the mathematical model. Constitutive theories for the Cauchy stress tensor are derived using the conjugate pair in the entropy inequality, additional desired physics, and the representation theorem. The constitutive theories for the Cauchy stress tensor consider convected time derivatives of Green’s strain tensor or the Almansi strain tensor up to order n and the convected time derivatives of the Cauchy stress tensor up to order m. The resulting constitutive theories of order (m, n) are based on integrity and are valid for dilute as well as dense polymeric, compressible, and incompressible fluids with variable material coefficients. It is shown that Maxwell, Oldroyd-B, and Giesekus constitutive models can be described by a single constitutive theory. It is well established that the currently used Maxwell and Oldroyd-B models predict zero normal stress perpendicular to the flow direction. It is shown that this deficiency is a consequence of not retaining certain generators and invariants from the integrity (complete basis) in the constitutive theory and can be corrected by including additional generators and invariants in the constitutive theory. Similar improvements are also suggested for the Giesekus constitutive model. Model problem studies are presented for BVPs consisting of fully developed flow between parallel plates and lid-driven cavities utilizing the new constitutive theories for Maxwell, Oldroyd-B, and Giesekus fluids. Results are compared with those obtained from using currently used constitutive theories for the three polymeric fluids.展开更多

A concept of anisotropic viscoelastic simple fluid is introduced. The stress tensor instead of the velocity gradient tensor D in the classic Leslie-Ericksen theory is described by the first Rivlin-Ericksen tensor A and a spin tensor W measured with respect to a co-rotational coordinate system. A model LCP-H on this theory is proposed and the characteristic unsymmetric behaviour of the shear stress is predicted for LC polymer liquids. Two shear stresses thereby in shear flow of LC polymer liquids lead to internal vortex flow and rotational flow. The conclusion could be of theoretical meaning for the modern liquid crystalline display technology. By using the equation, extrusion-extensional flows of the fluid are studied for fiber spinning of LC polymer melts, the elongational viscosity vs. extension rate with variation of shear rate is given in figures. A considerable increase of elongational viscosity and bifurcation behaviour are observed when the orientational motion of the director vector is considered. The contraction of extru- date of LC polymer melts is caused by the high elongational viscosity. For anisotropic viscoelastic fluids, an important advance has been made in the investigation on the constitutive equation on the basis of which a seriesof new anisotropic non-Newtonian fluid problems can be addressed.展开更多

According to the analysis of the comparison of the physiochemical properties of the polyamine inhibitor, a polyamine polymer drilling fluid system was established by means of adding UAE polyamine into traditional polymer drilling fluid. Conventional properties and environmental influence of this system have been evaluated in this paper. The result indicates that the polymer drilling fluid system optimized by polyamine shows a high-performance, such as excellent rejection performance, better rheological and filtration properties, better environmental protection functions. Thus it can be used in high water-sensitive, high temperature, high pressure or vulnerable formation drilling operations.展开更多

We report a novel method that allows us to solve one of the two equations of the model exactly, thus putting the level of mathematical difficulty on a par with the one of other models for polymer fluids. Moreover, we describe a computational algorithm capable of fitting all five parameters of the model in an unbiased way. The results obtained reproduce literature results and fit experimental pressure-volume-temperature and solubility parameter data for three polymers very accurately. Moreover, the new techniques allow for the investigation of the model at very low temperatures. Unexpectedly, the model predicts behaviors that could be interpreted as a glass transition, as routinely observed in dilatometry and differential scanning calorimetry, and a glass phase. We compared the predicted and experimental Tg's for cis poly(1,4-butadiene) and found an excellent quantitative agreement.展开更多
