Pomegranate Rind Extract (PRE) can be applied to cotton fabrics for its natural colours, as a mordanting agent and also for imparting certain functional properties such as fire retardancy and antimicrobial properties. This paper reviews the feasibility of Pomegranate Rind Extract to improve the functional properties of cellulosic fabrics. Studies show that varying concentrations and higher temperatures that were used to apply the extract on the fabric, resulted in enhanced functional properties. At a particular concentration, the treated fabric showed a 15 times lower burning rate in comparison with the control fabric. Also, antimicrobial efficacy has been observed against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Due to the natural colouring material, it can be used as a natural dye on cotton material. The fire retardancy of pomegranate rind extract was tested on jute material under varying alkalinity. Research has indicated that pomegranate rind extract could be used to dye polyamide as well. The rubbing and wash fastness of the finished fabrics is good. The light fastness was fair, and its antibacterial efficiency against tested bacteria was good.展开更多

The mechanism of it during storage in relation to the technology of the browning control was studied in this paper. The effects of storage temperature, gas component and pH value on peel browning of sweet pomegranate fruit in Lintong, Shaanxi Province, China, were investigated. Change in tannin content was measured and the relationship between the activities of ascorbic acid oxidase (AAO), polypenoloxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and peel browning was analysed. The results showed tannin was the basic substance of pomegranate peel browning. The activities of the browning index of peel were correlated positively with AAO, PPO and POD, correlated negatively with CAT activity. Application of intermittent warming for 24 h at (15 ± 0.5)℃ every 5 days for pomegranate fruit storage under the conditions of pH 4.0, (5.0± 0.5)℃ and 5.0% CO2 + 8.0% O2 + 87.0% N2 gas component could delay browning, with the browning index being 0.15 after 120 days of storage. Enzymatic tannin denaturation was the main cause that led to peel browning of pomegranate fruit during storage. The browning control of pomegranate fruit peel was effective using intermittent warming storage with suitable pH, temperature and gas component.展开更多

Gamma irradiation was applied at various dose levels (5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 25.0 kGy) on pomegranate peel powder. Both the values of total phenolic content and in vitro antioxi- dant activity were positively correlated and showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) for 10.0 kGy irradiated dose level immediately after irradiation and 60 days of post irradiation storage. At 5.0 kGy and above dose level, gamma irradia- tion has reduced microbial count of pomegranate peel powder to nil. Post irradiation storage studies also showed that, the irradiated peel powder was microbiologically safe even after 90 days of storage period.展开更多

Methods: Infrared spectroscopy method is a qualitative test that was performed to ensure the existence of the phytochemicals providing the antioxidant activity through the presence of the hydroxyl group(-OH). The viability of A549 cell line and normal MCs was tested using the neutral red uptake, Clonogenic survival, XTT and Cell migration assays. Results: Our results showed that this combination firstly led to a greater decrease in the viability of cells comparing to those treated with chemotherapy drugs alone, and secondly led to a significant reduction in cell migration. Conclusions: These data suggest a synergistic effect between the pomegranate and cisplatin which makes probably this combination a powerful option for treating lung adenocarcinoma and in parallel minimizing the systemic side effects.展开更多

Laccases (LAC) is a key regulatory factor in lignin synthesis. The full-length sequence of PgLAC was obtained from “Punica granatum cv. Hongyushizi”, by using RACE and RT-PCR methods. PgLAC had an open reading frame of 1716 bp and encoded a protein of 571 amino acids. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that PgLAC was most closely related to the LAC5 ortholog identified in Eucalyptus grandis (EgLAC5). Expression analysis showed that expression of PgLAC was higher in “Hongyushizi”, while lower in “Huiliruanzi” and “Tunisiruanzi”;PgLAC was predominantly expressed in stems; From 20 to 80 days after full bloom, the expression of PgLAC increased and reached a maximum at 80 d, then gradually decreased. These results suggested that PgLAC may be a candidate gene for reducing the hardness of pomegranate seeds.展开更多

The study findings showed that only storage temperature and its duration had significant effects on the degradation of phenolic compounds. The content of anthocyanins was affected by the single effect of storage time and its 3-way interaction effect with the storage temperature and the fruit’s surrounding gas composition. Higher contents of both total anthocyanins and browning pigments were recorded at 2°C storage temperature. The Browning Index (BI) of the pomegranate extracts showed to change quadratically with the variations in the total anthocyanins content but linearly with the variations in the content of browning compounds. Thermal dipping treatment and its interaction with the storage time also had significant effect on the BI values of the extracts obtained from modified atmosphere packaged pomegranates stored at 6 °C.展开更多

文摘Peel browning of pomegranate fruit is the key problem during storage. The browning control of pomegranate fruit peel was effective using intermittent warming storage with suitable pH, temperature and gas component.
文摘Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States.Recent studies prove that though chemotherapeutic agents are being used for the treatment of colon cancer, they become non-effective when the cancer progresses to an invasive stage.Since consumption of certain dietary agents has been linked with various cancers, fruit juices have been investigated for their consistently protective effect against colon cancer. The unique biochemical composition of fruit juices is responsible for their anticancer properties. In this review, the chemo-preventive effect of fruit juices such as pomegranate and citrus juices against colon cancer are discussed. For this purpose, the bioavailability,in vitro and in vivo effects of these fruit juices on colorectal cancer are highlighted. Moreover, there is a scarcity of studies involving human trials to estimate the preventive nature of these juices against colon cancer. This review will support the need for more preclinical tests with these crude juices and their constituents in different colorectal cancer cell lines and also some epidemiological studies in order to have a better understanding and promote pomegranate and citrus juices as crusaders against colon cancer.

文摘A green and convenient pathway of preparing iron nanoparticles(FeNPs)with pomegranate leaf(PG)extract for highly effective removal of malachite green(MG)was proposed under ambient conditions. The materials were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM),X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometer(EDS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)techniques. The results show that their surfaces are capped and stabilized by PG extract with amorphous nature and without any detection of zero-valent iron. The size and surface valence state of FeNPs are the key factors that affect the MG removal efficiency. As the reagent volume ratio of PG extract to FeCl_(3) increases greater than 1,the cross-linked FeNPs become more obvious, having a homogeneous distribution with the size range from 30 to 40 nm,and show an increasing ratio ofFe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ),which is in proportion to the degradation efficiency of MG,reaching higher than 95%in only 2 min by using 50 mg Fe/L FeNPs and 200 mg/L MG.
文摘Recently, pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) was demonstrated to be high in antioxidant activity and strong in phenolic, flavonoid and tannin contents in its fruit, flower and also aerial part. In this paper six cultivars of Iranian pomegranate flower including Ghojagh, Rabbab, Malas, Shishegap, Danesiah and Golnar have been investigated. The maximum amount of total phenolic was detected in Ghojagh (25.94 mg·GAEg-1) and flavonoid showed the highest content in Danesiah (23.06 mg·CEg-1). The lowest content of these two groups was observed in Golnar (15.19 mg·GAEg-1 and 11.46 mg·CEg-1). Measurement of tannin compounds showed that Rabbab by 2.03% and Golnar by 1.06% have the highest and lowest amount respectively. According to the FRAP method, Ghojagh and Golnar have the highest and lowest antioxidant values respectively (452.53 mmol·g-1 and 123.39 mmol·g-1). As a result of HPLC-DPPH method, Malas and Danesiah have the highest and lowest antioxidant value (116.38 and 97.64 mgVEEg-1).
文摘Pomegranate peels were studied for the effect of gamma irradiation on microbial decontamination along with its effect on total phenolic content and in vitro antioxidant activity. Post irradiation storage studies also showed that, the irradiated peel powder was microbiologically safe even after 90 days of storage period.

文摘Objective: To test the coalescence effect of two chemotherapy drugs at low effective dose(cisplatin and taxotere) combined with pomegranate juice on A549 cancer cells. Conclusions: These data suggest a synergistic effect between the pomegranate and cisplatin which makes probably this combination a powerful option for treating lung adenocarcinoma and in parallel minimizing the systemic side effects.

文摘Secondary metabolites are closely related to the nutritional quality and health functions of plants. We investigated the secondary metabolites of both wild(n=23)and cultivated(n=27)pomegranate plants(Punica granatum L.)growing in China. The total flavonoid(TF)and tannin(TT)contents from the peel and juice were determined and the secondary metabolites in the peel(ZLP)and juice(ZLZ)of‘Zela 4’were identified using liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry(LC–ESI-MS/MS).Analysis of variance(P<0.05)showed that there were significant differences in the TF content of peel(TF(P))and juice(TF(J)),and the TT content of peel(TT(P))and juice(TT(J))among different pomegranate accessions.Pearson correlation analysis showed that latitude and altitude might be the main environmental factors affecting TF and TT contents in pomegranates. In this study,279 secondary metabolites were identified in the ZLP and ZLZ.In addition,we report for the first time 227 secondary metabolites in pomegranates.Using orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis,90 differential metabolites were identified in ZLP and ZLZ.In addition,we screened eight specific germplasms(high-TF(P),‘Junyong 3’;low-TF(P),‘Yanzhihong’;high-TF(J),‘Zela 4’;low-TF(J),‘Yudazi’,high-TT(P),‘Junyong 4’;low-TT(P),‘Anba 1’;high-TT(J),‘Yeba 1’;and low-TT(J),‘Baihuayushizi’).The results of our study provide a reference for the development and utilization of wild pomegranate resources and pomegranate breeding in China.
文摘[Objective]The paper was to explore the influence of near-surface low temperature on cultivation of soft-seed pomegranate, and to provide guidance for planting location of soft-seed pomegranate.[Method]Taking 10 soft-seed pomegranate planting plots under different site conditions as the research objects, the near-surface low temperature of 45-50 cm was dynamically monitored from December 1,2018 to February 20,2019,and comparative analysis was made based on the local meteorological data over the same period.[Result]The near-surface low temperature of each temperature monitoring point was lower than the local meteorological data, which were all in the range of low temperature causing freezing in-jury of pomegranate trees, but the degree of freezing injury was different. The variation of near-surface low temperature was positively correlated with the altitude of terrain, but negatively correlated with the difference of topography and landform. When the local topography and landform were similar, the accumulation time of near-surface low temperature was negatively correlated with the altitude of terrain, while the duration of low tem-perature directly affected the degree of freezing injury.[Conclusion]The development of soft-seed pomegranate cultivation in Tunisia along Huang Mangling region in Henan Province refers to the local meteorological data.Meantime,it is also necessary to pay attention to the impact of regional microclimate environment, especially early monitoring of near-surface temperature to select suitable site and natural conditions.
文摘Objective:Clear cell renal cell carcinoma(ccRCC)is the most common subtype of renal cell carcinoma(RCC)and is characterized by biallelic inactivation of the von Hippel-Lindau(VHL)tumor suppressor gene. One effect of VHL inactivation is hypoxia inducible factor alpha(HIFa)-independent constitutive activation of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)and c-jun N-terminal kinase(JNK).Both NF-κB and JNK drive ccRCC growth and epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT).The purpose of this study was to determine the biochemical effects of pomegranate juice extracts(PE)on RCC cell lines. Methods:The pre-clinical effects of PE on NF-κB,JNK,and the EMT phenotype were assayed, including its effect on proliferation,anchorage-independent growth, and invasion of pVHLdeficient RCCs.Results:PE inhibits the NF-κB and JNK pathways and consequently inhibits the EMT phenotype of pVHL-deficient ccRCCs.The effects of PE are concentration-dependent and affect not only biochemical markers of EMT(i.e.,cadherin expression)but also functional manifestations of EMT,such as invasion. These effects are manifested within days of exposure to PE when diluted 2000-fold.Highly dilute concentrations of PE(106 dilution),which do not impact these pathways in the short term, were found to have NF-κB and JNK inhibitory effects and ability to reverse the EMT phenotype following prolonged exposure. Conclusion:These findings suggest that PE may mediate inhibition growth of pVHL-deficient ccRCCs and raises the possibility of its use as a dietary adjunct to managing patients with active surveillance for small, localized, incidentally identified renal tumors so as to avoid more invasive procedures such as nephrectomy.
文摘Decreasing the hardness of pomegranate seeds by reducing the content of lignin is an effective way to develop soft-seeded pomegranate. These results suggested that PgLAC may be a candidate gene for reducing the hardness of pomegranate seeds.
文摘Effects of storage temperature, packaging material, elevated CO2 and reduced O2 contents in the package headspace, and their interaction effects on the total content of anthocyanins and degradation of phenolic compounds during long storage of “Malase Torsh Saveh” pomegranate were studied. Thermal dipping treatment and its interaction with the storage time also had significant effect on the BI values of the extracts obtained from modified atmosphere packaged pomegranates stored at 6 °C.
