The unique high and cold climate, varied and changeable topography and social economic and human environment restrict population mobility in the region. Historically there were little statistic documents and the early data about population scale is poorly reliable. After the peaceful liberation of Tibet in 1951, its population went up continuously, and the growth rate has been higher than the national average level since 1964. The general tendency was that the pattern of population increase had changed within a short period. At first, the death rate was lowered quickly and the natural population increase speed was quickened, then, the death rate was lowered further, and the birth rate began to rise at a quick speed. After 1970, both the death rate and birth rate was generally stable, the level was relatively lower than before, the death rate slowed down at a quicker speed than the birth rate. The natural population increase rate rose extremely slowly, which formed the population development situation of fast but steady increase. The future population development tendency is that, the quick increase tendency characterized by young population will continue for quite a long time, and the pressure of future population increase upon resources environment will become increasingly great. The age structure and sex composition of population in Tibet, rather low since long time ago, became increasingly high upon entering the 1980s, but it was still the lowest one compared to other provinces or regions in China. The main reason is due to the low sex ratio of Tibetan infants and children caused by the low sex ratio of newly born infants and the high death rate of male infants, which will slow down the population increase in a limited way. There are few barren lands appropriate for farming and there exist many restricting factors for cultivation or utilization. With further increase in Tibetan population, it is inevitable that per capita available cultivated land will drop continuously. The problem of food supply in Tibet will still be the main issue in its regional development with the increase of population. It is impossible to support a quickly increasing population with the limited agricultural resources in Tibet. Therefore, the population development direction of Tibet can only be to tighten quantity control and to popularize family planning knowledge among Tibetan people. It is a fundamental strategic policy for the social and economic development in Tibet if family planning can be followed progressively on a voluntary basis.展开更多

[Method] The super rice variety Longjing 21 was selected as the experimental material. Different row spacing(two levels), plant spacing(three levels) and seedling number per hill(three levels) were designed in field trials. Then, the growth stages, dry matter accumulation, leaf area, yield and yield components of these different treatments were measured. [Result] Rice yield had significantly negative correlation with plant spacing and row spacing, but no significant correlation with seedling number per hill. Rice yield was mainly affected by plant spacing, and less affected by seedling number per hill. The best recommended specifications for plant spacing of super rice variety Longjing 21 were 24 cm for row spacing, 12 cm for plant spacing and five seedlings per hill, and the expected yield was 10 473.0 kg/hm^2.The increased number of total spikelets(4.5×108hm2or more) in populations was the major reason for high yield. Super-high yield populations had fewer tillers at the early growth stage and achieved the expected number of productive tillers at critical leaf-age(June 25), and tiller number peaked at jointing stage(July 6) and was about 1.2 times of the expected number. The percentage of productive tillers in total tillers of super-high yield population was more than 85% at heading stage. At middle growth stage(from jointing to heading stage), the dry matter accumulation, leaf area index(LAI) at heading stage, effective leaf area, spikelet number of population, spikelet number per leaf area unit(cm2), and culm-sheath weight per stem of super-high yield population were significantly higher than those of other populations. At late growth stage(from heading to maturity stage), the leaf area decreasing rate of super-high yield population was significantly smaller than that of other populations. At late growth stage(from heading to maturity stage), the leaf area decreasing rate, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate, biomass accumulation, number of filled grains per leaf area unit(cm^2) and grain weight per leaf area unit(cm^2) of high-yield population were significantly higher than those of other populations. Output and translocation of dry matter(weight per stem and sheath and total filling rate at maturity) from heading to milky stage of super-high yield population were significantly higher than those of other populations. [Conclusion] The characteristics of superhigh yield rice in cold region of North China are enriching the amount of actual filling of sink through improving photosynthetic efficiency from heading to maturity stage on the basis of enough panicle numbers.展开更多

However, the classic Hu Line was derived manually in absence of reliable census data and computational technologies of modern days. It has been subject to criticism of lack of scientific rigor and accuracy. This research uses a GIS-automated regionalization method, termed REDCAP(Regionalization with Dynamically Constrained Agglomerative Clustering and Partitioning), to reconstruct the demarcation line based on the 2010 county-level census data in China. The results show that the logarithmic transformation of population density is a better measure of attributive homogeneity in derived regions than density itself, and produces two regions of nearly identical area size and greater contrast in population. Specifically, the revised Hu Line by Hu Huanyong in 1990 had the southeast region with 94.4% of total population and 42.9% of total land, and our delineation line yields a southeast region with 97.4% population and 50.8% land. Therefore, the population density ratio of the two regions is 27.1 by our line, much higher than the ratio of 22.4 by the Hu Line, and thus outperforms the Hu Line in deriving regions of maximum density contrast with comparable area size. Furthermore, more regions are delineated to further advance our understanding of population distribution disparity in China.展开更多

We inspected the spatial dynamics of these centers and found that the gravity centers of population and economy evolved simultaneously. The disproportional growth between the population and the economy is also analyzed. The results show that: 1) The gravity centers of the GDR the output values of the main three industries and arable land area show migration trending from southwest to northeast, while the population gravity center shows an excessive growth in the southwest during the same time period. The migration amplitude of the GDP and output values of primary industry, secondary industry, tertiary industry are measurably higher than that of the population. 2) The population gravity center has a negative correlation with the gravity centers of secondary and tertiary industries output values in both longitudinal and latitudinal directions, and a positive correlation with that of primary industry output value in the longitudinal direction. Based on the analysis of correlation coefficient and offset distance, the imbalance between the population and the economy has increased since the 1980s, with regional economic differences now exceeding the international cordon.展开更多

Its mechanism is: (1) thrust of more people and less land in the eastern region of China; (2) attraction of dual economy in the western region of China; (3) national policy on preferential wages and grains for the western region. Population movement has an important effect on the change of regional division pattern in China: by the medium of the moving people, there forms another regional division pattern, i.e. rural industry system based on rural town industry; (2) there forms another profit mechanism compensated from the western region to the eastern region. It not only wins more profit in the eastern region, but also changes dual economy in the western region. Therefore, We should make choice of a comprehensible and encouraging attitude on population movement; a special government organization for general survey of the moving people should be set up at once.展开更多

High haplotype diversity and moderate nucleotide diversity were observed in Pacific herring. AMOVA and exact test of population differentiation showed no significant genetic differentiations among the three populations of the Yellow Sea and suggested the populations can be treated as a single panmictic stock in the Yellow Sea. However, a large and significant genetic differentiation (ФST=0.11; P=0.00) was detected between the populations in the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan. The high sea water temperature in the Tsushima Strait was thought a barrier to block the gene exchange between populations of the two sea areas. The neutrality tests and mismatch distribution indicated recent population expansion in Pacific herring.展开更多

Reclaiming farmland from lake via building cofferdams, eliminating snails by building cofferdams for eradicating schistosomiasis, and over-hunting predators in the region cause the voles becoming a pest after the 1970s. In recent years, the Three Gorges Project and the conversion from farmland into lake have had deep impacts on the environment in the lake region. The dispatching of the down flow rate by the project has induced the expansion of the low and medium level beaches in the lake region, while converting farmland into lake directly has induced the expansion of the lake beaches, both of which have expanded the potential habitats of the vole's population. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the quantitative variation trend of the vole's population in the future.展开更多

Like many other places in the Han nationality distributed regions, minority nationality inhabited regions are also facing the challenge of sustainable development in terms of both natural and human factors. Taking the Tibetan inhabited regions (TIR) in Sichuan Province as a case, this paper points out some major problems in the process of economic development in perspective of sustainability and leaves some hints for development strategies. While natural conditions such as geological instability are playing a major role to the environmental degradation, human activities and improper use of resources might constitute an important agent in the environmental deterioration. In order to promote local economic development and improve people’s living standard, sustainable planning is expected to be made and people’s awareness of sustainability should be strengthened.展开更多

The present study is carried out in order to analyze the population genetics of the S. nigrofasciata. The control region sequence of mitochondrial DNA revealing 73 haplotypes were obtained from 162 individuals collected at 8 locations along the coast of China. The whole S. nigrofasciata population along the coast of China showed a low nucleotide diversity(0.012) and a high population diversity(haplotype diversity)(0.943), and all the 8 local populations showed low nucleotide diversities(0.014 – 0.001), suggesting the protective measures are effective. The haplotypes of the 8 local populations were widely distributed in haplotype network diagram and neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree, while no branch associating with sampling locations was detected. Recent gene flow analysis showed asymmetric gene exchanges among local populations. The pairwise FST values and unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic mean(UPGMA) tree revealed a certain amount of genetic difference among local populations. Moreover, analysis of molecular variance(AMOVA) reflected genetic differences between hypothetical subdivision groups. Neutral test and mismatch distribution of pairwise nucleotide suggested S. nigrofasciata may have experienced recent population expansion events. The historical geographic events associating with ice age may be the main explanation to the heterogeneity among local populations with short geographic distances, and the homogeneity among local populations with long geographic distances.展开更多

By building a population and space dataset of the QTP at the township level from 1982 to 2017, this paper presents the pattern evolvement and regional distribution characteristics of township-level population in the QTP in detail for the first time. By using Geodetector method to analyze the influencing factors of township-level population change in the QTP, this paper provides scientific foundations for studying the Third Pole, ecological environment protection of the QTP, and human-land relations. The conclusions are as follows:1) The population spatial distribution is not balanced at the township level, presents the regional differentiation characteristics of ‘dense in southeast and sparse in northwest’ along the ‘Qilian-Jilong Line’, and demonstrates the phenomenon of population center of gravity moving to the hinterland of the plateau at an accelerated speed;2) The township-level population develops in a decentralized trend in general, and the cold-and hot-spot distribution of population has prominent spatial distribution characteristics. The population hot spots are concentrated in the surrounding areas of Xining, Golmud, Hotan and Lijiang;3) The population of the QTP is increasing, and the inter-annual change of township population has a relatively stable regional regularity;4) The level of per capita income is the leading factor in the change of township population, and its effect intensity is increasing continuously. The relative effect intensity of urbanization level and location conditions on population change has decreased significantly after 2000. The adaptability of living environment, such as topography and climate, has little influence on population change.展开更多

Methods: A total of 233 cases of patients with CHD were selected from the Han population in Hainan and TPNC as the experimental group(118 cases from Hainan, 115 cases from TPNC), and 239 cases with non-CHD were selected among the Han population also in the two regions as control group(125 cases from Hainan, 114 cases from TPNC). The triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol(TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) levels of plasma were tested and PCR-RFLP method was used to test the E670 G polymorphism of PCSK9 gene. The statistical software package SPSS 21.0 was used for the statistical analysis and P<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: The levels of systolic pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, TC, TG, and LDL-C of patients in CHD group were significantly higher than those in non-CHD group, while the high density lipoprotein cholesterol level was lower than that in non-CHD group(P<0.05). In CHD group, the frequencies of AG, GG genotypes of PCSK9 gene and G allele were higher than those in non-CHD group(P<0.05), and in CHD group, the frequencies of AG, GG genotypes and G allele of patients both in Hainan and TPNC were higher than those in control group(P<0.05). Among the patients with CHD, the frequencies of GG genotype and G allele of patients in Hainan were lower than those in TPNC(P<0.05), and in CHD group, the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C of GG genotype were higher than those of AA genotype(P<0.05). While in non-CHD group, there were no significant differences between the frequencies of GG genotype and G allele of patients in Hainan and TPNC(P>0.05). Conclusions: There was a close correlation between the E670 G polymorphism of PCSK9 gene and CHD with serum lipid level. Among Han population in Hainan and TPNC, the E670 G polymorphism of PCSK9 gene of patients with CHD exhibited regional differences.展开更多

A promising strategy for the control of the disease is closed-loop brain stimulation. How to determine the stimulation control parameters for effective and safe treatment protocols remains, however, an unsolved question. To constrain the complex dynamics of the biological brain, we use a neural population model(NPM). We propose that a proportional-derivative(PD) type closed-loop control can successfully suppress epileptiform activities. First, we determine the stability of root loci, which reveals that the dynamical mechanism underlying epilepsy in the NPM is the loss of homeostatic control caused by the lack of balance between excitation and inhibition. Then, we design a PD type closed-loop controller to stabilize the unstable NPM such that the homeostatic equilibriums are maintained; we show that epileptiform activities are successfully suppressed. A graphical approach is employed to determine the stabilizing region of the PD controller in the parameter space, providing a theoretical guideline for the selection of the PD control parameters. Furthermore, we establish the relationship between the control parameters and the model parameters in the form of stabilizing regions to help understand the mechanism of suppressing epileptiform activities in the NPM. Simulations show that the PD-type closed-loop control strategy can effectively suppress epileptiform activities in the NPM.展开更多

The analyses show that since the 3nl population census, total population, average age and total birth rate have all changed considerably: ① Total population has grown, fast, with most counties' annual average growth rate of more than 10. ② In terms of the region's average age, in 2000 the age in the 18 counties is younger than 30 years old. ③ Compared with the 3nl population census, labor force by the 5th census is much younger. ④ Countermeasures are proposed to control population by controlling birth rate as the result of the local resident's quality improvement by education.展开更多

文摘[Objective] This study was conducted to construct a super-high yield population of Japnica rice in cold regions of North China and to explore its characteristics. [Method] The super rice variety Longjing 21 was selected as the experimental material. Different row spacing(two levels), plant spacing(three levels) and seedling number per hill(three levels) were designed in field trials. [Conclusion] The characteristics of superhigh yield rice in cold region of North China are enriching the amount of actual filling of sink through improving photosynthetic efficiency from heading to maturity stage on the basis of enough panicle numbers.
文摘The famous ’Hu Line’, proposed by Hu Huanyong in 1935, divided China into two regions(southeast and northwest) of comparable area size but drastically different in population. Furthermore, more regions are delineated to further advance our understanding of population distribution disparity in China.

文摘Using the data at the county levcl and the regional gravity center model, we calculated six key socio-economic gravity centers, namely population, GDP, output values of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and arable land area in the Tarim River Basin for each year from 1980 to 2009. Based on the analysis of correlation coefficient and offset distance, the imbalance between the population and the economy has increased since the 1980s, with regional economic differences now exceeding the international cordon.
文摘Population movement is an important phenomenon in China in recent years. Therefore, We should make choice of a comprehensible and encouraging attitude on population movement; a special government organization for general survey of the moving people should be set up at once.

文摘To investigate the genetic variation and population structure of Pacific herring in the Yellow Sea and the genetic differentiation between the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, fragments of 479-bp mitochondrial DNA control region were sequenced for 110 individuals collected from three different periods in the Yellow Sea and one locality in the Sea of Japan. The neutrality tests and mismatch distribution indicated recent population expansion in Pacific herring.

文摘The outbreak of Yantze vole ( Microtus fortis) population in Dongting Lake region is closely related to the evolvement of lake beaches, because the deposition of lake sediments results in the expansion of lake beaches, which provides the possibility of the increase of the vole's population. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the quantitative variation trend of the vole's population in the future.
文摘China boasts 56 nationalities who are mostly inhabited in the sparsely populated mountain regions in West China. In order to promote local economic development and improve people’s living standard, sustainable planning is expected to be made and people’s awareness of sustainability should be strengthened.
文摘According to Statistical Yearbook of Jiangxi Province(2001~2006),We analyze the time-space variation of population distribution of Poyang Lake region from the two points of view. The former is quality of population, which involves culture structure, occupational structure, age structure and sex structure of population. The latter is quantity of population, which only involves the amount of population.Furthermore,we can reveal the internal relations and action mechanism of variation of population distribution by analyzing the regional economic development, population urbanization, land use and ecological landscape of Poyang Lake region. It is important to provide help for region planning, ecological landscape planning and environmental protection by correct understanding the man-land relationship of natural-human ecosystem in Poyang Lake region.

文摘Sillago nigrofasciata, a small to moderate size nearshore species, is newly found along the eastern and southern coasts of China. The historical geographic events associating with ice age may be the main explanation to the heterogeneity among local populations with short geographic distances, and the homogeneity among local populations with long geographic distances.

文摘The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP) is the most unique region of human-land relations, and its main factor is population. The adaptability of living environment, such as topography and climate, has little influence on population change.

文摘Dear Editor: Increased homocysteine levels due to vitamin B6 or B12 deficiency or genetic defects in folate pathway genes are associated with an increased incidence of non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCLP)tlj. Thymidylate synthase (TS) is a folate-dependent enzyme that catalyzes methylation of 2'-deoxyuridine-5'-monophosphate (dUMP) to 2'-deox- ythymidine-5'-monophosphate (dTMP), a rate-limiting step in DNA synthesis,
文摘Providing good quality water in sufficient quantities is a major challenge in the world. The purpose of the study is to assess the quality of drinking water and the health risk of various population groups in the southern Baikal region(Siberia,Russia)under changing hydrological conditions.Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater body of water and is one of the sites protected by UNESCO.Materials and methods. An analysis of centralized and non-centralized water supply was carried out in the south-eastern part of the Irkutsk region, adjacent to Lake Baikal. The data used are from the Baikal(regional)Information Center for 2011–2022,and they include the results of monitoring the water quality of the centralized domestic and drinking water supply(CDW)with 140 thousand samples, and non-centralized domestic and drinking water supply(NDW)with 108 thousand samples. In all samples,17 substances were determined. In addition, during the flood period, accompanied by additional water disinfection, trihalomethanes were determined in populated areas exposed to negative impacts. The quality of drinking water was assessed in comparison with the maximum permissible concentrations of substances(MPCs)approved by regulatory documents of Russia. An assessment of the characteristics of drinking water consumption by the population of the Baikal region was carried out, based on interview data from sample groups of the population. The assessment of the risk to public health, due to chronic oral intake of chemicals, was carried out using the values of the hazard coefficient(HQi),the hazard index(HI),individual carcinogenic risk(ICR),and population carcinogenic risk(PCR).Village residents more often use underground water sources(centralized and non-centralized).Residents of cities are provided with water from surface sources(Lake Baikal and the Angara River).Significant concentrations of iron, nitrates, and manganese were found in drinking water used by villagers.Average concentrations of iron-2.25 mg/dl,manganese-0.6 mg/dl,nitrates-135 mg/dl were recorded in the water of underground springs in villages of the Irkutsk region.Among rural residents of the Irkutsk region,60.8%live in settlements with non-water supply systems,28.4%have mixed water supply. The non-carcinogenic risk for the adult and child population was calculated;HI>1 was identified for the population using underground water sources.the non-carcinogenic hazard for the adult population,it was found that HI in the Irkutsk region slightly exceeded the standard value(1),amounting to 1.3,and for the child population-1.6,the main contribution to the hazard index is represented by nitrates. For children of individual rural settlements of the Angarsk region HI=1.38.The carcinogenic risk for water from underground sources reached in the range 1.56×10^(−5)-2.1×10^(−4)(in some settlements).Priority carcinogens were identified:arsenic(the contribution of which is 56.3–100%),hexavalent chromium(29.9–35.8%).A carcinogenic risk for city residents arises from increased disinfection during periods of microbiological contamination(floods, rains, high water levels),and it is associated with the formation of halogen-containing compounds. Conclusion The need to strengthen the drinking water quality monitoring system in risk areas has been proven by increasing the number and frequency of sampling during flood periods.

文摘Objective: To investigate the correlation between E670 G polymorphism of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK9) gene and coronary heart disease(CHD), and contrastively study the regional differences of E670 G polymorphism of PCSK9 gene between patients with CHD among the Han population in Hainan and three provinces in the northeast of China(TPNC), providing scientific basis for prevention and treatment of patients with CHD in different regions. Among Han population in Hainan and TPNC, the E670 G polymorphism of PCSK9 gene of patients with CHD exhibited regional differences.

文摘Epilepsy is believed to be caused by a lack of balance between excitation and inhibitation in the brain. Simulations show that the PD-type closed-loop control strategy can effectively suppress epileptiform activities in the NPM.
文摘Focusing on the 18 counties along “One River and Two Tributaries” region, and based on the data from China 3nl, 4th and 5th population censuses, this article has analyzed the time and spatial changing patterns of the population in this region. ④ Countermeasures are proposed to control population by controlling birth rate as the result of the local resident's quality improvement by education.

文摘With the increase of global population,grain-population relationship has attracted great attention worldwide. In China,grain-population relationship has become an increasingly important economic concern.Of central importance to the food security debate in China is the geography of grain supply and demand. This paper uses a grain demand and supply index (DSR) to analyze the spatial-temporal relationship between population and grain in China from 1949 to 2007 at national and provincial scales. The results are examined in three periods.(1) From 1949 to 2007,with the increase of grain production, the relationship between population and grain of China improved considerably.(2) Over the past 35 years (1970-2005),on the whole the grain producing areas have had grain surplus and contributed to the nation by providing grain, but the ability to provide sufficient grain is not stable.(3) Over the past 15 years (1990-2005),decreases in planting area brought pressure on national grain food security. The paper concludes that the key to providing more food for the main food producing provinces is increasing yield on the basis of steady plant area.
