Urban heritage is a vital resource that connects communities to their local identity.Unplanned developments and rapid urbanisation often harm the authenticity of historic areas,disrupting the cultural fabric and altering their character.This study introduces the Relative Positive Impact Index(RPll),a novel technique for assessing the socio-cultural impacts of urban revitalisation.The significance of RPII lies in its ability to quantitatively evaluate the impacts on the cultural fabric and integrity of historic urban areas,which is crucial for sustainable urban development.The study's objective is to apply RPII in evaluating qualitative socio-cultural characteristics in historic urban areas,with a focus on four main criteria and 16 sub-criteria,in the case of the Kuttichira precinct.The methodology integrates the analysis of published literature,a quantitative survey mapping the stakeholders'perception,and qualitative insights.This approach facilitates an in-depth understanding of how urban revitalisation affects local socio-cultural dynamics,preserving the authenticity and character of historic areas.The study reveals that the revitalisation project in Kuttichira positively impacts the socio-cultural fabric of the area,maintaining cultural integrity and addressing social challenges.These findings offer valuable insights for sustainable urban development and policymaking in historic areas.The study recommends the application of RPll in other urban precincts for comparative analysis and further development of urban development practices,contributing to informed urban policy and planning decisions. 展开更多

Given the advances in satellite altimetry and multibeam bathymetry,benthic terrain classification based on digital bathymetric models(DBMs)has been widely used for the mapping of benthic topographies.For instance,cobaltrich crusts(CRCs)are important mineral resources found on seamounts and guyots in the western Pacific Ocean.Thick,plate-like CRCs are known to form on the summit and slopes of seamounts at the 1000–3000 m depth,while the relationship between seamount topography and spatial distribution of CRCs remains unclear.The benthic terrain classification of seamounts can solve this problem,thereby,facilitating the rapid exploration of seamount CRCs.Our study used an EM122 multibeam echosounder to retrieve high-resolution bathymetry data in the CRCs contract license area of China,i.e.,the Jiaxie Guyots in 2015 and 2016.Based on the DBM construted by bathymetirc data,broad-and fine-scale bathymetric position indices were utilized for quantitative classification of the terrain units of the Jiaxie Guyots on multiple scales.The classification revealed four first-order terrain units(e.g.,flat,crest,slope,and depression)and eleven second-order terrain units(e.g.,local crests,depressions on crests,gentle slopes,crests on slopes,and local depressions,etc.).Furthermore,the classification of the terrain and geological analysis indicated that the Weijia Guyot has a large flat summit,with local crests at the southern summit,whereas most of the guyot flanks were covered by gentle slopes.“Radial”mountain ridges have developed on the eastern side,while large-scale gravitational landslides have developed on the western and southern flanks.Additionally,landslide masses can be observed at the bottom of these slopes.The coverage of local crests on the seamount is∼1000 km^(2),and the local crests on the peak and flanks of the guyots may be the areas where thick and continuous plate-like CRCs are likely to occur. 展开更多

This paper quantifies the way in which the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership(RCEP)afects the restructuring of global value chains(GVCs).It incorporates an inputoutput structure into a general equilibrium model,highlighting important differences between intermediates and final goods.Using tarif reduction schedules for the RCEP agreement and Asian Development Bank Multi-Region Input-Output database,it evaluates the impact of the RCEP's tariff cuts on vertical specialization and the GVC position index of members.It shows that the RCEP significantly increased vertical specialization and the weighted average number of stages for members for primary factors of production and final consumption,which led to more complex and longer production chains.This was mainly due to the trade creation in intermediates imported from member countries and those outside it.This is an important finding,distinct from traditional trade models without aninput-output structure. 展开更多

Geomorphologic and hydrologic research heavily depends on digital elevation models(DEM)which are currently being prepared from digital contours.The present study examines the use and applicability of freely available global elevation data source(3 arc seconds finished Shuttle Radar Topography Mission(SRTM))in landform characterisation,geomorphometry,river basin studies and other allied scientific applications in comparison with contour elevation data derived from the surveyed topographical sheets.The relief data extracted from a conventionally digitised geo-information science dataset of topographic contours(1:50,000)are compared with the SRTM-DEM and the variations are analysed.The automated geomorphometric and landform parameters derived from the contour DEM and the computed statistical properties of those parameters have substantial agreement with the same parameters derived from the SRTM-DEM.At the same time,localised variations also exist in some spatial domains.Derivative landscape analysis outputs from the SRTM-DEM suggest the wide acceptability and applicability of the freely available SRTM data source,especially in the regional scale applications related to hydrological modelling,terrain characterisation,disaster management and land degradation studies. 展开更多
