Prediction of power output plays a vital role in the installation and operation of photovoltaic modules.In this paper,two photovoltaic module technologies,amorphous silicon and copper indium gallium selenide installed outdoors on the rooftop of the University of Dodoma,located at 6.5738°S and 36.2631°E in Tanzania,were used to record the power output during the winter season.The average data of ambient temperature,module temperature,solar irradiance,relative humidity,and wind speed recorded is used to predict the power output using a non-linear autoregressive artificial neural network.We consider the Levenberg-Marquardt optimization,Bayesian regularization,resilient propagation,and scaled conjugate gradient algorithms to understand their abilities in training,testing and validating the data.A comparison with reference to the performance indices:coefficient of determination,root mean square error,mean absolute percentage error,and mean absolute bias error is drawn for both modules.According to the findings of our investigation,the predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental results.All the algorithms performed better,and the predicted power out of both modules using the Bayesian regularization algorithm is observed to exhibit good processing capabilities compared to the other three algorithms that are evident from the measured performance indices. 展开更多

Wind-tunnel experiments were performed to study the effect of favorable and adverse constant pressure gradients(PG)from local changes in the topography right downwind of a model wind turbine.Particle image velocimetry was used to characterize the near and intermediate wake regions.We explored five scenarios,two favorable,two adverse PG,and a case with negligible PG.Results show that the PGs induce a wake deflection and modulate the wake.They imposed a relatively small impact on the turbulence kinetic energy and kinematic shear stress but a comparatively dominant effect on the bulk flow on the flow recovery.Based on this,a simple formulation is used to describe the impact of PG on the wake.We modeled the base flow through a linearized perturbation method;the wake is obtained by solving a simplified,integrated streamwise momentum equation.This approach reasonably estimated the flow profile and PG-induced power output variations. 展开更多

In contrast to most existing works on robust unit commitment(UC),this study proposes a novel big-M-based mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)method to solve security-constrained UC problems considering the allowable wind power output interval and its adjustable conservativeness.The wind power accommodation capability is usually limited by spinning reserve requirements and transmission line capacity in power systems with large-scale wind power integration.Therefore,by employing the big-M method and adding auxiliary 0-1 binary variables to describe the allowable wind power output interval,a bilinear programming problem meeting the security constraints of system operation is presented.Furthermore,an adjustable confidence level was introduced into the proposed robust optimization model to decrease the level of conservatism of the robust solutions.This can establish a trade-off between economy and security.To develop an MILP problem that can be solved by commercial solvers such as CPLEX,the big-M method is utilized again to represent the bilinear formulation as a series of linear inequality constraints and approximately address the nonlinear formulation caused by the adjustable conservativeness.Simulation studies on a modified IEEE 26-generator reliability test system connected to wind farms were performed to confirm the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed method. 展开更多

However, solar radiation is not constant and power output of photovoltaic (PV) system is influenced by weather conditions. It is difficult for getting to know accurate power output of PV system. In order to forecast the power output of PV system as accurate as possible, this paper proposes a decision technique of forecasting model for short-term-ahead power output of PV system based on solar radiation prediction. Application of Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) is shown for solar radiation prediction in this paper. The proposed method in this paper does not require complicated calculation, but mathematical model with only useful weather data. The validity of the proposed RNN is confirmed by comparing simulation results of solar radiation forecasting with that obtained from other 展开更多

A whispering gallery mode resonator(WGMR)filter can narrow laser linewidth while significantly changing the output power characteristics of fiber laser system.It is found that traditional laser output power model is invalid.We report a correction model of a narrow linewidth fiber laser filtered with a WGMR to analyze its power.We believe that the loss of the laser system and the threshold gain increase caused by the WGMR filter lead to the predominate amplified spontaneous emission during the original laser period.According to that,we assume the correction coefficient is an exponential decay related to the Er-doped fiber length in the large loss situation,and we verify it experimentally.As a result,the correction model is valid for WGMR-filtered fiber laser. 展开更多

A frequency servo system-on-chip(FS-SoC)featuring output power stabilization technology is introduced in this study for high-precision and miniaturized cesium(Cs)atomic clocks.The proposed power stabilization loop(PSL)technique,incorporating an off-chip power detector(PD),ensures that the output power of the FS-SoC remains stable,mitigating the impact of power fluctuations on the atomic clock's stability.Additionally,a one-pulse-per-second(1PPS)is employed to syn-chronize the clock with GPS.Fabricated using 65 nm CMOS technology,the measured phase noise of the FS-SoC stands at-69.5 dBc/Hz@100 Hz offset and-83.9 dBc/Hz@1 kHz offset,accompanied by a power dissipation of 19.7 mW.The Cs atomic clock employing the proposed FS-SoC and PSL obtains an Allan deviation of 1.7×10^(-11) with 1-s averaging time. 展开更多

Compared with endoreversible heat engine with pure heat transfer and endoreversible isothermal chemical engine with pure mass transfer,endoreversible non-isothermal chemical engine(ENICE)is a more reasonable model of practical mass exchanger,solid device and chemo-electric systems.There exists heat and mass transfer(HMT)simultaneously between working fluid and chemical potential reservoir in ENICE.There is coupled HMT effect that in ENICE should be considered.There are two ways to consider this coupled effect.One is based on Onsager equations,and another is based on Lewis analogy.For the mathematical and physical description of the above HMT process,the model using Onsager equations are more appropriate in the linear HMT region not far from the equilibrium state,while that based on Lewis analogy is more appropriate in nonlinear HMT region far from the equilibrium state.Different from the previous research on the power optimization of ENICEs with Onsager equations,this paper optimizes power and efficiency of ENICE based on Lewis analogy.HMT processes are assumed to obey Newtonian heat transfer law(q∝ΔT,and T is temperature)and Fick's diffusive mass transfer law(g∝Δc,and c is concentration),respectively.Analytical results of power output and corresponding vector efficiency(η_(T)andη_(μ))of ENICE are obtained,which provide important parallel results with those based on Onsager equations.They include special cases for endoreversible Carnot heat engine with q∝ΔT and endoreversible isothermal chemical engine with g∝Δc.Adopting Lewis analogy in the modelling of ENICEs with simultaneous HMT is an important work.It provides important analytical and numerical results different from those with Onsager equations obtained previously and enriches the research contents of FTT.The research results in this paper have a certain guiding significance for the optimal designs of single irreversible NICEs,multistage NICE systems,practical mass exchangers,solid devices,chemo-electric systems,and so on. 展开更多

The conventional wind farm(WF)power generation modelling method highly relies on wind hindcast produced by record time-series data or numerical weather modelling.However,estimating production at future sites is challenging in the absence of local wind monitoring.To address this,a data-driven WF modelling and model transfer strategy is proposed in this work.It considers the challenge of how to transpose metered data from existing operational WFs to sites that might feature as a prospective site for a new WF.By modelling 14 WFs distributed across Scotland using a machine learning(ML)approach,this study proved it was possible to effectively model metered production at a site using modelled wind speed and direction.In addition,this study also found when the latitude difference between two WFs is less than 0.2 degrees and the distance is less than 5o km,two WFs in non-mountainous areas can share an ML model.The results of the shared ML model remain superior to the results of the given power curve from manufacturers,after adjusting the results by the ratio of the power curve in these two WFs.The WF model transfer strategy investigated in this work offered a novel approach to transposing WF production estimates to new sites and appeared to offer better value than simple power curves,which is of importance at the early planning stage for site selection,although it would likely not fully replace detailed micro-siting modelling which are well established in the industry.Index Terms-Machine learning,model transfer strategy,power curve,power output estimation,wind farm. 展开更多

Converters rely on passive filtering as a crucial element due to the high-frequency operational characteristics of power electronics.Traditional filtering methods involve a dual inductor-capacitor(LC)cell or an inductor-capacitor-inductor(LCL)T-circuit.However,capacitors are susceptible to wear-out mechanisms and failure modes.Nevertheless,the necessity for monitoring and regular replacement adds to an elevated cost of ownership for such systems.The utilization of an active output power filter can be used to diminish the dimensions of the LC filter and the electrolytic dc-link capacitor,even though the inclusion of capacitors remains an indispensable part of the system.This paper introduces capacitorless solid-state power filter(SSPF)for single-phase dc-ac converters.The proposed configuration is capable of generating a sinusoidal ac voltage without relying on capacitors.The proposed filter,composed of a planar transformer and an H-bridge converter operating at high frequency,injects voltage harmonics to attain a sinusoidal output voltage.The design parameters of the planar transformer are incorporated,and the impact of magnetizing and leakage inductances on the operation of the SSPF is illustrated.Theoretical analysis,supported by simulation and experimental results,are provided for a design example for a single-phase system.The total harmonic distortion observed in the output voltage is well below the IEEE 519 standard.The system operation is experimentally tested under both steady-state and dynamic conditions.A comparison with existing technology is presented,demonstrating that the proposed topology reduces the passive components used for filtering. 展开更多

Due to the low dispatchability of wind power,the massive integration of this energy source in power systems requires short-term and very short-term wind power output forecasting models to be as efficient and stable as possible.A study is conducted in the present paper of potential improvements to the performance of artificial neural network(ANN)models in terms of efficiency and stability.Generally,current ANN models have been developed by considering exclusively the meteorological information of the wind farm reference station,in addition to selecting a fixed number of time periods prior to the forecasting.In this respect,new ANN models are proposed in this paper,which are developed by:varying the number of prior 1-h periods(periods prior to the forecasting hour)chosen for the input layer parameters;and/or incorporating in the input layer data from a second weather station in addition to the wind farm reference station.It has been found that the model performance is always improved when data from a second weather station are incorporated.The mean absolute relative error(MARE)of the new models is reduced by up to 7.5%.Furthermore,the longer the forecasting horizon,the greater the degree of improvement. 展开更多

In general,the power distribution of a parallel inverter is achieved by the use of droop control in a microgrid system,which consists of PV inverters and non-regeneration energy source inverters without energy storage devices in an islanded mode.If the shared load power is no more than the available maximum PV inverter output power,then there is a power waste for the PV inverter.In addition,due to the intermittency of PV sources,the system may become unstable if the shared load power is more than the available maximum power output of the PV(MPO-PV)inverter.Therefore,in order to avoid power waste and potential instability caused by insufficient PV power by traditional droop control,this paper recommends an improved droop control scheme to maximize the power output of PV units.As required by the load,the remaining power is composed of the other inverters,which can effectively improve the utilization rating of renewable energy sources and system stability.At the same time,according to the system stability analysis based on small signal modeling,it has been designed around the droop coefficients of the improved droop control loop.In the end,the simulation and experimental results show that the suggested scheme has a varied validity and robustness. 展开更多

This study reports a new model of an air standard Dual-Miller cycle(DMC) with two polytropic processes and heat transfer loss.The two reversible adiabatic processes which could not be realized in practice are replaced with two polytropic processes in order to more accurately reflect the practical working performance. The heat transfer loss is taken into account. The expressions of power output, thermal efficiency, entropy generation rate(EGR) and ecological function are addressed using finite-time thermodynamic theory. Through numerical calculations, the influences of compression ratio, cut-off ratio and polytropic exponent on the performance are thermodynamically analyzed. The model can be simplified to other cycle models under specific conditions, which means the results have an certain universality and may be helpful in the design of practical heat engines. It is shown that the entropy generation minimization does not always lead to the best system performance. 展开更多

The full-bridge zero-voltage and zero-current switching inverter, which can adjust the output power by keeping the duty-cycle of lagging arm constant, changing the duty-cycle of leading arm, is a common circuit topology of soft-switching inverter arc welding power supplies. However, the output power still remains a certain value when the duty-cycle of leading arm decreases to zero. The working-mode of soft-switching inverter and the waveforms of major parameters with the condition of duty-cycle of leading arm being zero are studied in this paper. U-1 characteristic experiments prove that the minimum output power of soft-switching circuit, which depends on the charged voltage of capacitors in parallel with leading arm, can be decreased by reducing the duty-cycle of lagging arm. By switching working-modes between half-bridge and full-bridge, the output power can swing from zero to the power rating. 展开更多

The increased slew rate is achieved by sensing the transient output voltage of the LDO and then charging(or discharging) the gate capacitor quickly. In addition, a buffer with ultra-low output impedance is presented to improve line and load regulations. This design is fabricated by SMIC 0.18 μm CMOS technology. Experimental results show that, the proposed LDO regulator only consumes an ultra-low quiescent current of 1.2 μA.The output current range is from 10 μA to 200 m A and the corresponding variation of output voltage is less than 40 m V. By using the domestic Tin-doped fiber, it is the first time a hundred-watt level output at 1915nm has been achieved, to the best of our knowledge. However, when the duty ratio of leading leg was reduced to zero, the output power stayed the constant value instead of becoming zero. The working status and waveforms of some major parameters were studied in this paper while the duty ratio of leading leg was zero. It was concluded that the minimum output power of soft switching inverter was related to the charging voltage of paraUel capacitors, and the output power also could be reduced by reducing the duty ratio of lagging leg. A novel two-stage continuous PWM control method that could switch working-mode between full bridge and half bridge was put forward in this paper. This kind of control method could further reduce the output power of soft switching inverter in order to meet the requirement of low heat input of sheet metal welding. 展开更多

In order to control the output power of a switched reluctance generator(SRG)at a constant speed,the output power of SRG is theoretically analyzed by using freewheeling control.First,through a theoretical analysis,a finite element simulation and an experiment,it was verified that the output power of SRG cannot be improved by using freewheeling control with a single pulse control method(SPCM).Then,the maximum output power can be obtained by optimizing the turn off angles of SPCM at a constant speed,and at the same time,the formula of the optimal turn-off angle was presented,which meets the criterion for the output power maximization.Finally,numerical simulation and experimental results demonstrated the validity of the theoretical analysis. 展开更多
