The pilot channel of CDMA technology is very important for earth mobile station(EMS) in LEO system to recover carrier and code, but the power requirement of pilot channel is very higher than that of other channels. In this paper, a power reduction method for pilot channel is proposed. By the new method, the power of pilot channel transmitted from LEO satellite is reduced to a lower level. For improving the signal to noise ratio(SNR) of pilot channel with lower power, coherent integration is employed in EMS at the pre-processing stage. Considering the high dynamic situation of LEO satellite, the long period of time for integration will deteriorate the receiving performance of EMS, therefore, a dynamic compensation module is added to carrier tracking loop against the high dynamic. Meanwhile, the transfer function of the new tracking loop and the condition for steadystate zero error are deduced. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed approach.展开更多

The corresponding generalized equations are presented, proven, and their characteristics discussed. Although the power sums have a basic form, their results have quite different properties, dependent on the values of the free parameters used. Installation costs of DSTATCOM devic...This work presents a fuzzy based methodology for distribution system feeder reconfiguration considering DSTATCOM with an objective of minimizing real power loss and operating cost. Installation costs of DSTATCOM devices and the cost of system operation, namely, energy loss cost due to both reconfiguration and DSTATCOM placement, are combined to form the objective function to be minimized. The distribution system tie switches, DSTATCOM location and size have been optimally determined to obtain an appropriate operational condition. In the proposed approach, the fuzzy membership function of loss sensitivity is used for the selection of weak nodes in the power system for the placement of DSTATCOM and the optimal parameter settings of the DFACTS device along with optimal selection of tie switches in reconfiguration process are governed by genetic algorithm(GA). Simulation results on IEEE 33-bus and IEEE 69-bus test systems concluded that the combinatorial method using DSTATCOM and reconfiguration is preferable to reduce power losses to 34.44% for 33-bus system and to 45.43% for 69-bus system.展开更多
In order to improve the Power Quality(PQ)of traction power supply system and reduce the power rating and operation cost of compensator,a Static VAR Compensator(SVC)integrated Railway Power Conditioner(RPC)is presented...In order to improve the Power Quality(PQ)of traction power supply system and reduce the power rating and operation cost of compensator,a Static VAR Compensator(SVC)integrated Railway Power Conditioner(RPC)is presented in this paper.RPC is a widely used device in the AC electrified railway systems to enhance the PQ indices of the main network.The next generation of this equipment is Active Power Quality Compensator(APQC).The major concern of these compensators is their high kVA rating.In this paper,a hybrid technique is proposed to solve aforementioned problems.A combination of SVC as an auxiliary device is employed together with the main compensators,i.e.,RPC and APQC that leads on to the reduction of power rating of the main compensators.The use of proposed scheme will cause to reduce significantly the initial investment cost of compensation system.The main compensators are only utilized to balance active powers of two adjacent feeder sections and suppress harmonic currents.The SVCs are used to compensate reactive power and suppress the third and fifth harmonic currents.In this paper firstly,the PQ compensation procedure in AC electrified railway is analyzed step by step.Then,the control strategies for SVC and the main compensators are presented.Finally,a simulation is fulfilled using Matlab/Simulink software to verify the effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme and compensation strategy and also demonstrate that this technique could compensate all PQ problems.展开更多

A problem of peak power in DC-electrified railway systems is mainly caused by train power demand during acceleration.If this power is reduced,substation peak power will be significantly decreased.This paper presents a...A problem of peak power in DC-electrified railway systems is mainly caused by train power demand during acceleration.If this power is reduced,substation peak power will be significantly decreased.This paper presents a study on optimal energy saving in DC-electrified railway with on-board energy storage system(OBESS) by using peak demand cutting strategy under different trip time controls.The proposed strategy uses OBESS to store recovered braking energy and find an appropriated time to deliver the stored energy back to the power network in such a way that peak power of every substations is reduced.Bangkok Mass Transit System(BTS)-Silom Line in Thailand is used to test and verify the proposed strategy.The results show that substation peak power is reduced by63.49% and net energy consumption is reduced by 15.56%using coasting and deceleration trip time control.展开更多

To reduce the reactive power absorbed from the converter units, the main AC/DC converters are designed to be series-connected and work in a sequential mode. The structure of the regulator of the converter system is described. A simulation model was built up for the PSCAD/EMTDC code, and the design was validated accordingly. Harmonic analysis and reactive power calculation of the converters units are presented. The results reveal the advantage of sequential control in reducing reactive power and harmonics.展开更多

In computing and consumer products, the major dynamic power is consumed in the system’s clock signal, typically about 30% to 70% of the total dynamic (switching) power consumption. Several techniques to reduce the dynamic power have been developed, of which clock gating is predominant. In this work, a new methodology is applied for gating the Flip flop by which the power will be reduced. The clock gating is employed to the pipelining stage flip flop which is active only during valid data are arrived. The methodology used in project named Selective Look-Ahead Clock Gating computes the clock enabling signals of each FF one cycle ahead of time, based on the present cycle data of those FFs on which it depends. Similarly to data-driven gating, it is capable of stopping the majority of redundant clock pulses. In this work, the circuit implementation of the various blocks of data driven clock gating is done and the results are observed. The proposed work is used for pipelining stage in microprocessor and DSP architectures. The proposed method is simulated using the quartus for cyclone 3 kit.展开更多

Otherwise, the telemetry signal will be polluted by the noise con...The satellite transponder is a widely used module in satellite missions, and the most concerned issue is to reduce the noise of the transferred signal. Otherwise, the telemetry signal will be polluted by the noise contained in the transferred signal, and the additional power will be consumed. Therefore, a method based on wavelet packet de-noising (WPD) is introduced. Compared with other techniques, there are two features making WPD more suit- able to be applied to satellite transponders: one is the capability to deal with time-varying signals without any priori information of the input signals; the other is the capability to reduce the noise in band, even if the noise overlaps with signals in the frequency domain, which provides a great de-noising performance especially for wideband signals. Besides, an oscillation detector and an av- eraging filter are added to decrease the partial oscillation caused by the thresholding process of WPD. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce more noises and make less distortions of the signals than other techniques. In addition, up to 12 dB additional power consumption can be reduced at -10 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).展开更多

Distribution networks are built as interconnected mesh networks; however, they are arr...One of the very important ways to save electrical energy in the distribution system is network reconfiguration for loss reduction. Distribution networks are built as interconnected mesh networks; however, they are arranged to be radial in operation. The distribution feeder reconfiguration is to find a radial operating structure that optimizes network performance while satisfying operating constraints. The change in network configuration is performed by opening sectionalizing (normally closed) and closing tie (normally opened) switches of the network. These switches are changed in such a way that the radial structure of networks is maintained, all of the loads are energized, power loss is reduced, power quality is enhanced, and system security is increased. Distribution feeder reconfiguration is a complex nonlinear combinator- ial problem since the status of the switches is non- differentiable. This paper proposes a new evolutionary algorithm (EA) for solving the distribution feeder reconfiguration (DFR) problem for a 33-bus and a 16- bus sample network, which effectively ensures the loss minimization.展开更多

At this reduced su...The present paper analyzes the hold and read stability with temperature and aspect ratio variations. To reduce the power dissipation, one of the effective techniques is the supply voltage reduction. At this reduced supply voltage the data must be stable. So, the minimum voltage should be discovered which can also retain the data. This voltage is the data retention voltage(DRV). The DRV for 6T SRAM cell is estimated and analyzed in this paper.The sensitivity analysis is performed for the DRV variation with the variation in the temperature and aspect ratio of the pull up and pull down transistors. Cadence Virtuoso is used for DRV analysis using 45 nm GPDK technology files. After this, the read stability analysis of 6T SRAM cell in terms of SRRV(supply read retention voltage) and WRRV(wordline read retention voltage) is carried out. Read stability in terms of RSNM can be discovered by accessing the internal storage nodes. But in the case of dense SRAM arrays instead of using internal storage nodes,the stability can be discovered by using direct bit line measurements with the help of SRRV and WRRV. SRRV is used to find the minimum supply voltage for which data can be retained during a read operation. Similarly, WRRV is used to find the boosted value of wordline voltage, for which data can be retained during read operation. The SRRV and WRRV values are then analyzed for different Cell Ratios. The results of SRRV and WRRV are then compared with the reported data for the validation of the accuracy of the results.展开更多
