Atherosclerotic arteries obtained at autopsy from patients who died suddenly of cardiac causes indicate that pregnancyassociated plasma protein-A （ PAPP-A ） was abundantly expressed in plaque cells and in the extracellular matrix of ruptured and eroded unstable plaques, but not in stable plaques.
