Heart of Darkness, a chilling tale of horror set in the Congo during the period of rapid colonial expansion in the 19th century written by the renowned British novelist Joseph Conrad, is a world famous novella. Since its publication, it remains an indisputably classic text and arguably Conrad's finest work. And it has been regarded as a significant text in British literature because of its modernistic features, innovative narration and artistic style. Heart of Darkness deals with the highly disturbing effects of economic, social and political exploitation of European and African societies. It has inspired filmmakers and such authors as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gabriel Garica Marquez, D. H. Lawrence and Virginia,Woolf. This article is aimed to analyse it from the perspective of primitiveness and civilization. Through the analysis, readers can sense Conrad's attitude towards the two aspects.

Personalized Lower Limb Gait Reconstruction Modeling Based on RFA-ProMP

Personalized gait curves are generated to enhance patient adaptability to gait trajectories used for passive training in the early stage of rehabilitation for hemiplegic patients.The article utilizes the random forest algorithm to construct a gait parameter model,which maps the relationship between parameters such as height,weight,age,gender,and gait speed,achieving prediction of key points on the gait curve.To enhance prediction accuracy,an attention mechanism is introduced into the algorithm to focus more on the main features.Meanwhile,to ensure high similarity between the reconstructed gait curve and the normal one,probabilistic motion primitives(ProMP)are used to learn the probability distribution of normal gait data and construct a gait trajectorymodel.Finally,using the specified step speed as input,select a reference gait trajectory from the learned trajectory,and reconstruct the curve of the reference trajectoryusing the gait keypoints predictedby the parametermodel toobtain the final curve.Simulation results demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper achieves 98%and 96%curve correlations when generating personalized lower limb gait curves for different patients,respectively,indicating its suitability for such tasks.

Application of maximum rank distance codes in designing of STBC-OFDM system for next-generation wireless communications

Space-Time Block Coded(STBC)Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)satisfies higher data-rate requirements while maintaining signal quality in a multipath fading channel.However,conventional STBCs,including Orthogonal STBCs(OSTBCs),Non-Orthogonal(NOSTBCs),and Quasi-Orthogonal STBCs(QOSTBCs),do not provide both maximal diversity order and unity code rate simultaneously for more than two transmit antennas.This paper targets this problem and applies Maximum Rank Distance(MRD)codes in designing STBCOFDM systems.By following the direct-matrix construction method,we can construct binary extended finite field MRD-STBCs for any number of transmitting antennas.Work uses MRD-STBCs built over Phase-Shift Keying(PSK)modulation to develop an MRD-based STBC-OFDM system.The MRD-based STBC-OFDM system sacrifices minor error performance compared to traditional OSTBC-OFDM but shows improved results against NOSTBC and QOSTBC-OFDM.It also provides 25%higher data-rates than OSTBC-OFDM in configurations that use more than two transmit antennas.The tradeoffs are minor increases in computational complexity and processing delays.

An Intelligent Learning Algorithm for Improving BIM Object Classification and Recognition

Building information modeling(BIM)object classification takes a lot of time and energy.Misclassification or omission of any object may lead to the emergence of abnormal results,which have a great impact on the project workflow and results.Roundly understanding BIM object classification,by improving Swin Transformer classifier algorithm parameters,using the model primitives extracted from IFC format BIM model file,deep learning of 7 types of BIM object categories is taken.Through the performance and evaluation indicators obtained in training,the results improve the classification accuracy.

Approach to cardiac masses: Thinking inside and outside the box

In this editorial we comment on the article by Huffaker et al,published in the current issue of the World Journal of Clinical Cases.Cardiac masses encompass a broad range of lesions,potentially involving any cardiac structure,and they can be either neoplastic or non-neoplastic.Primitive cardiac tumors are rare,while metastases and pseudotumors are relatively common.Cardiac masses frequently pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.Multimodality imaging is fundamental for differential diagnosis,treatment,and surgical planning.In particular cardiac magnetic resonance(CMR)is currently the gold standard for noninvasive tissue characterization.CMR allows evaluation of the relationship between the tumor and adjacent structures,detection of the degree of infiltration or expansion of the mass,and prediction of the possible malignancy of a mass with a high accuracy.Different flow charts of diagnostic work-up have been proposed,based on clinical,laboratory and imaging findings,with the aim of helping physicians approach the problem in a pragmatic way(“thinking inside the box”).However,the clinical complexity of cancer patients,in particular those with rare syndromes,requires a multidisciplinary approach and an open mind to go beyond flow charts and diagnostic algorithms,in other words the ability to“think outside the box”.

In the post-modernistic movement to seek for the cultural root,literary anthropologists refocus and explore the original therapeutic function of literature,and make great efforts to restore the essence of disciplines’theory that“literature is human science”to the real context of cultural integration.Based on this,the article intends to treat witch’s great traditional ritual as a starting point,aiming at building up and enriching the ethnography of literary therapy.However,in order to change roles from witches to writers and promote the primitive return of literary therapy,writers make little traditional creation of text focus on interpretation of“treating themselves”and“curing others”about literature’s function.

Small Modular Solutions to Fermat’s Last Theorem

The proof by Andrew Wiles of Fermat’s Last Theorem in 1995 resolved the existence question for non-trivial solutions in integers x,y,zto the equation xn+yn=znfor n>2. There are none. Surprisingly, there are infinitely many solutions if the problem is recast in terms of modular arithmetic. Over a hundred years ago Issai Schur was able to show that for any n there is always a sufficiently large prime p0such that for all primes p≥p0the congruence xn+yn≡zn(modp)has a non-trivial solution. Schur’s argument wasnon-constructive, and there is no systematic method available at present to construct specific examples for small primes. We offer a simple method for constructing all possible solutions to a large class of congruences of this type.

The Black Protests in Poland: An Example of an Anti-pastoral Revolution

Michel Foucault in Security, Territory, Population: Lectures at the Collège de France, 1977-1978 argues, that there has never been such a thing as an anti-pastoral revolution in Western societies. Yes, we have had revolutions against the disciplinary apparatus and legal devices of power (schools, hospitals, prisons) and we have had examples of revolutions against the economic foundations of social inequality, but there has never been a genuine revolution against pastoral power as a power relating to the conduct of individuals (but also entire social groups) and their disposition to “voluntary submission” to the will of external authorities. In my paper, I would like to reflect on this thesis, and taking it quite seriously, to look for examples of such revolutions. One of them is a women’s strike in Poland during the power of the conservative government of “Law and Justice”. Mainly referring to the texts of Silvia Federici and Paul Preciado, I will want to reflect on contemporary practices of reclaiming the body in contemporary capitalism. I will defend the thesis that regaining control over sexuality and reproduction means changing the material conditions of life and modern reproductive technologies.

Real-time collaborative design based on operation semantics in distributed CAD environment

This paper proposes a collaborative design model based on operation semantics in a distributed computer-aided design (CAD) environment. The goal is to reduce time consumption in data format conversion and the requirement of network bandwidth so as to improve the cooperative ability and the synchronization efficiency. Firstly, real-time collaborative design is reviewed and three kinds of real-time collaborative design models are discussed. Secondly, the concept of operation semantics is defined and the framework of an operation semantics model is presented. The operation semantics carries the original design data and actual operation process to express design intent and operation activity in conventional CAD systems. Finally, according to the operation semantics model, a CAD operation primitive is defined which can be retrieved from and mapped to the local CAD system operation commands; a distributed CAD collaborative architecture based on the model is presented, and an example is given to verify the model.

Appropriate Garden Design of Primitive Ecology Based on the Indigenization of Environmental Ethics

The accelerating urbanization process leads to aggravated environmental problems, thus garden design which is a creative activity connecting human and nature has attracted much attention, and also garden designers have had to rethink about environmental ethics and morals. This study, from the perspective of environmental ethics, duly proposed the brand-new concept of 'appropriate garden of primitive ecology', proceeded from the orientation, form, value, theoretical basis, realistic significance, culture and consumption psychology of 'garden of primitive ecology', fully developed outstanding ecological wisdoms and morals in traditional Chinese garden culture, boosted garden designs to the environmental ethics level of eco-justice, to seek for the approach to 'garden of primitive ecology' with indigenous Chinese environmental ethic characteristics.

基于改进的分块LVP直方图的人脸建模和识别算法

本文提出了一种改进的基于LVP的人脸建模和识别算法。首先,利用K均值聚类算法获得LVPS dictionary;然后,利用获得的LVPS对人脸进行建模,该方法比传统的建模方法计算更简单;最后,利用分块后的LVPS加权直方图索引进行人脸识别。实验表明,本文所提出的方法比传统的LVP方法具有更好的识别效果。
