It has been shown that remote monitoring of pulmonary activity can be achieved using ultra-wideband (UWB) systems, which shows promise in home healthcare,rescue,and security applications.In this paper,we first present...It has been shown that remote monitoring of pulmonary activity can be achieved using ultra-wideband (UWB) systems, which shows promise in home healthcare,rescue,and security applications.In this paper,we first present a multi-ray propagation model for UWB signal,which is traveling through the human thorax and is reflected on the air/dry-skin/fat/muscle interfaces,A geometry-based statistical channel model is then developed for simulating the reception of UWB signals in the indoor propagation environment.This model enables replication of time-varying multipath profiles due to the displacement of a human chest.Subsequently, a UWB distributed cognitive radar system (UWB-DCRS) is developed for the robust detection of chest cavity motion and the accurate estimation of respiration rate.The analytical framework can serve as a basis in the planning and evaluation of future rheasurement programs.We also provide a case study on how the antenna beamwidth affects the estimation of respiration rate based on the proposed propagation models and system architecture.展开更多
With the maturation of satellite technology,Hyperspectral Remote Sensing(HRS)platforms have developed from the initial ground-based and airborne platforms into spaceborne platforms,which greatly promotes the civil app...With the maturation of satellite technology,Hyperspectral Remote Sensing(HRS)platforms have developed from the initial ground-based and airborne platforms into spaceborne platforms,which greatly promotes the civil application of HRS imagery in the fields of agriculture,forestry,and environmental monitoring.China is playing an important role in this evolution,especially in recent years,with the successful launch and operation of a series of civil hyper-spectral spacecraft and satellites,including the Shenzhou-3 spacecraft,the Gaofen-5 satellite,the SPARK satellite,the Zhuhai-1 satellite network for environmental and resources monitoring,the FengYun series of satellites for meteorological observation,and the Chang’E series of spacecraft for planetary exploration.The Chinese spaceborne HRS platforms have various new characteristics,such as the wide swath width,high spatial resolution,wide spectral range,hyperspectral satellite networks,and microsatellites.This paper focuses on the recent progress in Chinese spaceborne HRS,from the aspects of the typical satellite systems,the data processing,and the applications.In addition,the future development trends of HRS in China are also discussed and analyzed.展开更多

It has a wide range of applications, such as image processing and speech signal processing owing to its characteristic of removing redundant information by reducing the sampling rate. The disadvantage of CS is that the number of iterations in a greedy algorithm such as Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP) is fixed, thus limiting reconstruction precision.Therefore, in this study, we present a novel Reducing Iteration Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(RIOMP) algorithm that calculates the correlation of the residual value and measurement matrix to reduce the number of iterations.The conditions for successful signal reconstruction are derived on the basis of detailed mathematical analyses.When compared with the OMP algorithm, the RIOMP algorithm has a smaller reconstruction error. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can accurately reconstruct signals in a shorter running time.展开更多

We discuss the nature of complex number and its effect on complex-valued neural networks(CVNNs).After we review some examples of CVNN applications,we look back at the mathematical history to elucidate the features of ...We discuss the nature of complex number and its effect on complex-valued neural networks(CVNNs).After we review some examples of CVNN applications,we look back at the mathematical history to elucidate the features of complex number,in particular to confirm the importance of the phaseand-amplitude viewpoint for designing and constructing CVNNs to enhance the features.This viewpoint is essential in general to deal with waves such as electromagnetic wave and lightwave.Then,we point out that,although we represent a complex number as an ordered pair of real numbers for example,we can reduce ineffective degree of freedom in learning or self-organization in CVNNs to achieve better generalization characteristics.This merit is significantly useful not only for waverelated signal processing but also for general processing with frequency-domain treatment through Fourier transform.展开更多
