The specific case here considered is the “bipolar disorder”, in which the adoption of three different drugs is the most common practice, although with a possible differentiation between the prescription in the morning and in the evening, respectively. Thus, the proposed methodology will consider the Ordinal Interactions between the various drugs by evaluating their combined effects, which will result as being not a simple additive “sum”, because they are evaluated on the basis of the Maximum Ordinality Principle (MOP) and, in addition, in Adherence to the Explicit Solution to the “Three-Body Problem”. In this way the Methodology here proposed is able to suggest how to account for the synergistic effects of the various drugs, especially when the latter are characterized by different concentrations and, at the same time, by generally different half-lives respectively.展开更多

However, prospective studies have shown that not all psychiatric staff who experience workplace violence experience post-traumatic stress. Purpose: We want to examine the longitudinal trajectories of PTSD in this population to identify possible subgroups that might be more at risk. Furthermore, we need to investigate whether certain risk factors of PTSD might identify membership in the subgroups. Method: In a sample of psychiatric staff from 18 psychiatric wards in Denmark who had reported an incident of WV, we used Latent Growth Mixture Modelling (LGMM) and further logistic regression analysis to investigate this. Results: We found three separate PTSD trajectories: a recovering, a delayed-onset, and a moderate-stable trajectory. Higher social support and negative cognitive appraisals about oneself, the world and self-blame predicted membership in the delayed-onset trajectory, while higher social support and lower accept coping predicted membership in the delayed-onset trajectory. Conclusion: Although most psychiatric staff go through a natural recovery, it is important to be aware of and identify staff members who might be struggling long-term. More focus on the factors that might predict these groups should be an important task for psychiatric departments to prevent posttraumatic symptomatology from work.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Anosmia was one of the main symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).A psychiatric history(i.e.,depression)may be an independent contributor to the risk of COVID-19 diagnosis, and COVID-19 survivors appear to have an increased risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae(bidirectional association).AIM To compare the rate of psychiatric disorder among post-COVID patients without anosmia vs patients with persistent olfactory complaints.METHODS We conducted a prospective case control study from March 2020 to May 2021.Patients recruited at the ENT department of Nice University Hospital had a subjective olfactory complaint(visual analogue scale)for over 6 wk and a molecular or CT-proven severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 diagnosis confirmed by serology.Post-COVID patients without persistent olfactory disorders were recruited at the university hospital infectiology department.Psychiatric medical histories were collected by a psychiatrist during the assessments.RESULTS Thirty-four patients with post-COVID-19 olfactory complaints were included in the first group of the study.Fifty percent of the patients were female(n=17).The group’s mean age was 40.5±12.9 years. The control group included 32 participants,of which 34.4%were female(n=11),and had a mean age of 61.2±12.2 years. The rate of psychiatric disorder among post-COVID patients with olfactory complaints was significatively higher(41.7%)than among patients without(18.8%)(χ2=5.9,P=0.015).CONCLUSION The presence of a psychiatric history may constitute a potential risk factor for the development of long COVID due to persistent anosmia. It therefore seems important to establish reinforced health monitoring after a COVID 19 infection in at-risk patients.Further prospective, translational, and collaborative studies are needed to extrapolate these results to the general population.

文摘BACKGROUND The management of offenders with mental disorders has been a significant concern in forensic psychiatry. In Japan, the introduction of the Medical Treatment and Supervision Act in 2005 addressed the issue. However, numerous psychiatric patients at risk of violence still find themselves subject to the administrative involuntary hospitalization(AIH)scheme, which lacks clarity and updated standards.AIM To explore current as well as optimized learning strategies for risk assessment in AIH decision making.METHODS We conducted a questionnaire survey among designated psychiatrists to explore their experiences and expectations regarding training methods for psychiatric assessments of offenders with mental disorders.RESULTS The findings of this study’s survey suggest a prevalent reliance on traditional learning approaches such as oral education and on-the-job training.CONCLUSION This underscores the pressing need for structured training protocols in AIH consultations. Moreover, feedback derived from inpatient treatment experiences is identified as a crucial element for enhancing risk assessment skills.

文摘Although antipsychotics that act via monoaminergic neurotransmitter modulation have considera ble therapeutic effect, they cannot completely relieve clinical symptoms in patients suffering from psychiatric disorde rs.This may be attributed to the limited range of neurotransmitters that are regulated by psychotropic drugs.Recent findings indicate the need for investigation of psychotropic medications that target less-studied neurotransmitte rs.Among these candidate neurotransmitters, lactate is developing from being a waste metabolite to a glial-neuronal signaling molecule in recent years.Previous studies have suggested that cerebral lactate levels change considerably in numerous psychiatric illnesses;animal experiments have also shown that the supply of exogenous la ctate exerts an antidepressant effect. In this review,we have described how medications targeting newer neurotransmitte rs offer promise in psychiatric diseases;we have also summarized the advances in the use of lactate(and its corresponding signaling pathways)as a signaling molecule. In addition,we have described the alterations in brain lactate levels in depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia and have indicated the challenges that need to be overcome before brain lactate can be used as a therapeutic target in psychopharmacology.
文摘BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and alcohol-related liver disease(Ar-LD)constitute the primary forms of chronic liver disease, and their incidence is progressively increasing with changes in lifestyle habits.Earlier studies have do-cumented a correlation between the occurrence and development of prevalent mental disorders and fatty liver.AIM To investigate the correlation between fatty liver and mental disorders, thus ne-cessitating the implementation of a mendelian randomization(MR)study to elu-cidate this association.METHODS Data on NAFLD and ArLD were retrieved from the genome-wide association studies catalog, while information on mental disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD),bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, multiple personality dis-order,obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD),post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD),and schizophrenia was acquired from the psychiatric genomics consor-tium.A two-sample MR method was applied to investigate mediators in signifi-cant associations.RESULTS After excluding weak instrumental variables,a causal relationship was identified between fatty liver disease and the occurrence and development of some psychia-tric disorders.Specifically, the findings indicated that ArLD was associated with a significantly elevated risk of developing ADHD(OR:5.81,95%CI:5.59-6.03,P<0.01),bipolar disorder(OR:5.73,95%CI:5.42-6.05,P=0.03),OCD(OR:6.42,95%CI:5.60-7.36,P<0.01),and PTSD(OR:5.66,95%CI:5.33-6.01,P<0.01).Meanwhile,NAFLD significantly increased the risk of developing bipolar disorder(OR:55.08,95%CI:3.59-845.51,P<0.01),OCD(OR:61.50,95%CI:6.69-565.45,P<0.01),and PTSD(OR:52.09,95%CI:4.24-639.32,P<0.01).CONCLUSION Associations were found between genetic predisposition to fatty liver disease and an increased risk of a broad range of psychiatric disorders, namely bipolar disorder,OCD,and PTSD,highlighting the significance of preven-tive measures against psychiatric disorders in patients with fatty liver disease.
文摘BACKGROUND Global education in psychiatry is heavily influenced by knowledge from Western,high-income countries, which obscures local voices and expertise.AIM To adapt a human simulation model to psychiatric education in a context that is specific to local languages and cultures.METHODS We conducted an observational study consisting of six human simulation sessions with standardized patients from two host countries, speaking their native languages, and following an adaptation of the co-constructive patient simulation(CCPS)model. As local faculty became increasingly familiar with the CCPS approach, they took on the role of facilitators—in their country’s native language.RESULTS Fifty-three learners participated:19 child and adolescent psychiatry trainees and 3 faculty members in Türkiye(as a group that met online during 3 consecutive months);and 24 trainees and 7 faculty in Israel(divided into 3 groups,in parallel in-person sessions during a single training day). Each of the six cases reflected local realities and clinical challenges, and was associated with specific learning goals identified by each case-writing trainee.CONCLUSION Human simulation has not been fully incorporated into psychiatric education:The creation of immersive clinical experiences and the strengthening of reflective practice are two areas ripe for development. Our adaptations of CCPS can also strengthen local and regional networks and psychiatric communities of practice. Finally, the model can help question and press against hegemonies in psychiatric training that overshadow local expertise.

文摘Recent studies highlight the strong correlation between infectious diseases and the development of neuropsychiatric disorders. In this editorial,we comment on the article“Anti-infective therapy durations predict psychological stress and laparoscopic surgery quality in pelvic abscess patients”by Zhang et al,published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry 2023;13(11):903-911.Our discussion highlighted the potential consequences of anxiety, depression, and psychosis, which are all linked to bacterial, fungal, and viral infections, which are relevant to the impact of inflammation on the sequelae in mental health as those we are observing after the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. We focus specifically on the immune mechanisms triggered by inflammation, the primary contributor to psychiatric complications.Importantly, pathophysiological mechanisms such as organ damage,post-injury inflammation, and infectioninduced endocrine alterations, including hypocortisolism or autoantibody formation, significantly contribute to the development of chronic low-grade inflammation, promoting the emergence or development of psychiatric alterations in susceptible individuals. As inflammation can have long-term effects on patients,a multidisciplinary treatment plan can avoid complications and debilitating health issues, and it is crucial to recognize and address the mental health implications.

文摘BACKGROUND For children and adolescents, deliberate self-harm(DSH)is becoming a mental health problem of concern.Despite several studies on the prevalence and factors of DSH in the world, there is little information on DSH among children and adolescents in China. This study explores the prevalence, types, associated risk factors and tendency of DSH in pediatric psychiatric inpatients in China.AIM To understand the situation of DSH among hospitalized children and adolescents and its related factors.METHODS In this study,we retrospectively studied 1414 hospitalized children and adolescents with mental illness at Xiamen Mental Health Center from 2014 to 2019,extracted the demographic and clinical data of all patients, and analyzed clinical risk factors of DSH.RESULTS A total of 239(16.90%)patients engaged in at least one type of DSH in our study.Cutting(n=115,48.12%)was the most common type of DSH.Females(n=171,71.55%)were more likely to engage in DSH than males(n=68,28.45%).DSH was positively associated with depressive disorders[OR=3.845(2.196-6.732);P<0.01],female[OR=2.536(1.815-3.542);P<0.01],parental marital status[OR=5.387(2.254-12.875);P<0.01]and negative family history of psychiatric illness[OR=7.767(2.952-20.433);P<0.01],but not with occupation, substance use and history of physical abuse.CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that for patients with depression, females,an abnormal marriage of parents, and no history of mental illness, attention should be paid to the occurrence of DSH.
文摘BACKGROUND The interplay between inflammation, immune dysregulation, and the onset of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, has become increasingly recognized.Interleukin(IL)-6,a pro-inflammatory cytokine,is suspected to not only mediate traditional inflammatory pathways but also contribute to neuroinflammatory responses that could underpin neuropsychiatric symptoms and broader psychiatric disorders in epilepsy patients. The role of IL-6 receptor(IL6R)blockade presents an intriguing target for therapeutic intervention due to its potential to attenuate these processes.neuropsychiatric conditions due to neuroinflammation.METHODS Mendelian randomization(MR)analysis employing single nucleotide poly-morphisms(SNPs)in the vicinity of the IL6R gene(total individuals=408225)was used to evaluate the putative causal relationship between IL6R blockade and epilepsy(total cases/controls=12891/312803),focal epilepsy(cases/controls=7526/399290),and generalized epilepsy(cases/controls=1413/399287).SNP weights were determined by their effect on C-reactive protein(CRP)levels and integrated using inverse variance-weighted meta-analysis as surrogates for IL6R effects. To address potential outlier and pleiotropic influences, sensitivity analyses were conducted employing a variety of MR methods under different modeling assumptions.RESULTS The genetic simulation targeting IL6R blockade revealed a modest but significant reduction in overall epilepsy risk[inverse variance weighting:Odds ratio(OR):0.827;95%confidence interval(CI):0.685-1.000;P=0.05].Subtype analysis showed variability, with no significant effect observed in generalized, focal,or specific childhood and juvenile epilepsy forms.Beyond the primary inflammatory marker CRP,the findings also suggested potential non-inflammatory pathways mediated by IL-6 signaling contributing to the neurobiological landscape of epilepsy, hinting at possible links to neuroinflammation, psychiatric symptoms, and associated mental disorders.CONCLUSION The investigation underscored a tentative causal relationship between IL6R blockade and decreased epilepsy incidence, likely mediated via complex neuroinflammatory pathways. These results encouraged further in-depth studies involving larger cohorts and multifaceted psychiatric assessments to corroborate these findings and more thoroughly delineate the neuro-psychiatric implications of IL-6 signaling in epilepsy. The exploration of IL6R blockade could herald a novel therapeutic avenue not just for seizure management but also for addressing the broader psychiatric and cognitive disturbances often associated with epilepsy.
文摘Precision medicine is transforming psychiatric treatment by tailoring personalized healthcare interventions based on clinical, genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors to optimize medication management. This study investigates how artificial intelligence(AI)and machine learning(ML)can address key challenges in integrating pharmacogenomics(PGx)into psychiatric care.In this integration,AI analyzes vast genomic datasets to identify genetic markers linked to psychiatric conditions.AI-driven models integrating genomic, clinical, and demographic data demonstrated high accuracy in predicting treatment outcomes for major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. This study also examines the pressing challenges and provides strategic directions for integrating AI and ML in genomic psychiatry, highlighting the importance of ethical considerations and the need for personalized treatment.Effective implementation of AI-driven clinical decision support systems within electronic health records is crucial for translating PGx into routine psychiatric care.Future research should focus on developing enhanced AI-driven predictive models,privacy-preserving data exchange, and robust informatics systems to optimize patient outcomes and advance precision medicine in psychiatry.
文摘BACKGROUND Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome(IC/BPS)is an at least 6-mo noninfectious bladder inflammation of unknown origin characterized by chronic suprapubic,abdominal,and/or pelvic pain.Although the term cystitis suggests an inflammatory or infectious origin,no definite cause has been identified. It occurs in both sexes, but women are twice as much affected.AIM To systematically review evidence of psychiatric/psychological changes in persons with IC/BPS.METHODS Hypothesizing that particular psychological characteristics could underpin IC/BPS,we investigated in three databases the presence of psychiatric symptoms and/or disorders and/or psychological characteristics in patients with IC/BPS using the following strategy:("interstitial cystitis"OR"bladder pain syndrome")AND("mood disorder"OR depressive OR antidepressant OR depression OR depressed OR hyperthymic OR mania OR manic OR rapid cyclasterisk OR dysthymiasterisk OR dysphoriasterisk).RESULTS On September 27,2023,the PubMed search produced 223 articles,CINAHL 62,and the combined PsycLIT/PsycARTICLES/PsycINFO/Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection search 36.Search on ClinicalTrials.gov produced 14 studies,of which none had available data.Eligible were peer-reviewed articles reporting psychiatric/psychological symptoms in patients with IC/BPS,i.e.63 articles spanning from 2000 to October 2023.These studies identified depression and anxiety problems in the IC/BPS population, along with sleep problems and the tendency to catastrophizing.CONCLUSION Psychotherapies targeting catastrophizing and life stress emotional awareness and expression reduced perceived pain in women with IC/BPS.Such concepts should be considered when implementing treatments aimed at reducing IC/BPS-related pain.
文摘Transdermal medications are an useful yet underutilized tool in the field of psychiatry.Despite numerous advantages of using this route of medication delivery, transdermal medications remain less popular compared to other routes of medication administration such as oral and intramuscular routes in the management of various psychiatric conditions. In this editorial,we examine the advantages of transdermal medications with a brief overview of transdermal being used in psychiatry and other medical specialties. We discuss the factors that play a role in their limited usage in psychiatry. We highlight certain patient categories who can specifically benefit from them and discuss potential solutions that can broaden the perspective of treating clinicians making this an intriguing avenue in the field of psychiatry.
文摘Background:Respiratory disorders are among the leading disorders contributing to extensive morbidity and mortality worldwide.Disorder variants, like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases(COPD)in developed and developing countries,as well as infectious causes, like Tuberculosis(TB)in developing countries, contribute to significant disease burden. The literature points towards the coexistence of psychiatric disorders with respiratory disorders responsible for poorer outcomes.Despite the extensive burden of respiratory disorders and the presence of concurrent psychiatric disorders, studies focusing on their prevalence are limited in India. Methods:A cross-sectional psychiatric screening was carried out on sequential patients attending the tertiary respiratory unit over eight months. Those screened positive were interviewed in detail for psychiatric diagnosis and challenges in the management were discussed.Psychiatric diagnosis, pulmonary TB and medical comorbidity were assessed for correlation with demographic and clinical variables and analyzed by using the Chi-square test and logistic regression method using SPSS version 20.Results:Psychiatric morbidity was present in 100 out of 350 patients(28.57%).Tuberculosis was the most common diagnosis(46%)in subjects attending the respiratory clinic services while common mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and insomnia were the most common psychiatric concern(88%)in this study. Conclusion:Psychiatric disorders and medical morbidities are common in patients with respiratory disorders.Multiple factors determine the treatment adherence in both respiratory and psychiatric disorders.Screening for psychiatric disorders with the help of a consultation-liaison psychiatrist in respiratory units is recommended.Future studies should focus on developing dedicated psychiatry services to enhance overall outcomes in patients with respiratory disorders.

文摘BACKGROUND Chronic liver disease is associated with various neuropsychiatric conditions. There are currently no large studies assessing and comparing the prevalence of psy-chiatric illnesses based on patient profiles and the etiology of cirrhosis.AIM To examine the trends of hospitalizations among psychiatric conditions in cirrhosis.METHODS We used the National Inpatient Sample database 2016-2019 for the primary diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. The outcomes included the prevalence, trends, and associations of psychiatric diagnoses in these hospitalizations.Chi-square for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon rank test for continuous variables were utilized.RESULTS The prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)in liver cirrhosis hospitalizations increased from 0.17%in 2009 to 0.92%in 2019(P<0.001).The prevalence of depression increased from 7%in 2009 to 12%in 2019(P<0.001).Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)prevalence increased from 0.06%to 0.24%.The prevalence of schizophrenia increased from 0.59%to 0.87%(P<0.001).Schizoaffective disorder prevalence increased from 0.10%to 0.35%(P<0.001).Posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD)prevalence displayed increasing trends from 0.36%in 2009 to 0.93%in 2019(P<0.001).The prevalence of suicidal ideation increased from 0.23%to 0.56%in 2019.Cirrhosis related to alcoholic liver disease[adjusted odds ratios(aOR)1.18,95%CI 1.08-1.29,P<0.001]and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)(aOR 1.14,95%CI 1.01-1.28,P=0.025)was associated with depression more than other causes.Alcohol-and NAFLD-associated cirrhosis had a stronger link to psychiatric disorders.Females had a higher association with GAD(aOR 2.56,95%CI 2.14-3.06,P<0.001),depression(aOR 1.78,95%CI 1.71-1.84,P<0.001),bipolar disorder(aOR 1.64,95%CI 1.52-1.77,P<0.001]and chronic fatigue(aOR 2.31,95%CI 1.31-4.07,P<0.001)when compared to males.Blacks,Hispanics, and Asian/Native Americans had a significantly lower association with GAD,depression, bipolar disorder,PTSD,and ADHD when compared to the white race.CONCLUSION The prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities in liver cirrhosis hospitalizations has increased over the last decade.Females had a higher association with psychiatric disorders compared to males.Blacks,Hispanics, and Asian/Native Americans had lower associations with psychiatric comorbidities compared to the white race.
文摘BACKGROUND Children with thalassemia need care from the first years of life owing to the physical and psychological effects of their disorder.Thalassemia is a concern not only for the children’s physical health but also the mental health of themselves and their caregivers.AIM To screen the psychosocial problems and assessment of psychiatric morbidities among thalassaemic children and their caretakers, along with an assessment of caregiver burden in them.METHODS In this observational cross-sectional study, children with transfusion-dependent thalassemia, were included and were assessed for psychiatric morbidity and global functioning.Their parents were assessed for psychiatric morbidity and the caregiver burden they faced. All the parents completed two different questionnaires to assess their knowledge about the psycho-social functioning[using Pediatric Symptom Checklist-35(PSC-35)]of their children and the level of the burden faced by them by Caregiver Burden Scale(CBS).RESULTS A total of 46 children(28 boys and 18 girls)with transfusion-dependent thalassemia with a mean age of 8.83±2.70 years and 46 parents(12 fathers and 34 mothers)were included in this study.More than 32 children had some psychosocial problems on screening by PSC-35.On assessment by CBS moderate caregiver burden was perceived in domains of general strain, isolation, disappointment, emotional involvement, and environment.A total of 65.3%of children and 62.7%of parents were diagnosed with psychiatric problems.CONCLUSION Thalassemia affects not only the persons with the disorder but also their caregivers in several aspects, including their psychosocial well-being.This study emphasizes the role of a supportive group in the psychological well-being of caregivers, which could be used to prevent the pathological effects of caregiver burden and enhance their psychological well-being through counselling.
文摘This brief overview highlights the global crisis of perinatal psychiatric illness(PPI).PPI is a major contributor to many adverse pregnancy, childbirth, and childhood development outcomes. It contributes to billions of dollars in spending worldwide each year and has a significant impact on the individual, their family, and their community. It is also highly preventable.Current recommendations for intervention and management of PPI are limited and vary considerably from country to country.Furthermore, there are several significant challenges associated with implementation of these recommendations. These challenges are magnified in number and consequence among women of color and/or minority populations, who experience persistent and negative health disparities during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This paper aims to provide a broad overview of the current state of recommendations and implementation challenges for PPI and layout a framework for overcoming these challenges. An equityinformed model of care that provides universal intervention for pregnant women may be one solution to address the preventable consequences of PPI on child and maternal health.Uniquely, this model emphasizes the importance of managing and eliminating known barriers to traditional health care models.Culturally and contextually specific challenges must be overcome to fully realize the impact of improved management of PPI.
文摘Objective:Nurses, due to the nature of their job,are subjected to various forms of stress and physical and psychological injuries.Self-compassion and a sense of coherence have attracted much attention in research in recent years as having high potential for improving the health and performance of people in the workplace. The present study aimed to compare self-compassion and the sense of coherence in nurses working in psychiatric hospitals and other hospitals of Kerman University of Medical Sciences. Methods:The present study was a descriptive-comparative study of applied type conducted on 100 nurses of Shahid Beheshti Psychiatric Hospital in Kerman by the census method and 100 nurses of other hospitals of Kerman University of Medical Sciences by the stratified random sampling method. The instruments included the self-compassion questionnaire and the sense of coherence questionnaire.Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software. Results:The results of the present study showed that self-compassion and sense of coherence were higher in psychiatric nurses(39.35±7.7 and 53.02±8.01)than among other nurses(36.03±5.81 and 49.76±6.30).There was a direct and moderate relationship between a sense of coherence and self-compassion(P-value<0.005).The higher the score of compassion for oneself, the higher was the score of sense of coherence.Furthermore, the sense of coherence had a direct and weak relationship with all dimensions of self-compassion,except for the extreme imitation dimension, which showed a direct and moderate relationship to other dimensions(P-value<0.001).Conclusions:Self-compassion and a sense of coherence,as a form of self-communication,increase nurses’satisfaction and reduce nurses’job stress and,as a result, job performance is improved.
文摘The present paper aims at showing the possible adoption in Psychiatry of a general methodology finalized to prescribe the most appropriate Therapy based on the knowledge of its correlative effects in advance, instead of recognizing them ex post. In this way the Methodology here proposed is able to suggest how to account for the synergistic effects of the various drugs, especially when the latter are characterized by different concentrations and, at the same time, by generally different half-lives respectively.
文摘Background: Workplace violence (WV) towards psychiatric staff has commonly been associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). More focus on the factors that might predict these groups should be an important task for psychiatric departments to prevent posttraumatic symptomatology from work.
文摘Objective:The present study aimed to address the care of psychiatric patients and its impact on nurses’behavior in Saudi Arabia. Methods:A cross-sectional quantitative questionnaire-based study was conducted. This study was carried out in various government hospitals across different regions of Saudi Arabia. Results:A total of 73 nurses participated in the study, with male nurses comprising the majority(61.6%)compared to females.Being a young nurse or with few years of work experience is linked with more predilection towards preventive behaviour and/or physical activity.A significant mean difference was observed, indicating higher scores for preventive behavior among females(female 14.93±5.82 vs.male 11.56±5.48,P=0.015).The Bonferroni post hoc multiple comparisons did not reveal any statistical significance for single vs.married(P=0.618),single vs.divorced(P=0.223),and married vs.divorced(P=0.020).Conclusion:The study results demonstrated a significant impact of caring for psychiatric patients on nurses’behavior. This is concerning because psychological and mental health strain has been shown to contribute to unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as physical inactivity and sleep deprivation, which,in turn, can contribute to the increasing incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases.Healthcare interventions targeting psychiatric and mental health nurses should be designed and examined to emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and an active lifestyle.
