Previous and current challenges that have been encountered over time function as a coffective driver for design progression. However, such challenges have remained under research to be able to draw useful lessons from them. To understand how this established motif can suit the sustainability-conscious era, this study uses Hong Kong as a representative case for sub-tropical compact cities by critiquing its PH design against multiple constraints. The objective of this study is to trace the historical relationships between challenges and design progress as well as to assess current and future implications of sustainability trends on PH design. By synthesizing data from literature, policy documents, and empirical evidence, this research develops an evolution map for PH design in Hong Kong that is driven by seven major challenges. Based on this map, a conceptual framework for intersecting considerations that envisaaes five main future prospects toward future PH desien is also established.展开更多

Essentially, because infrastructure megaproje...Considering the rapid urbanization growth rate particularly in developing countries, the number of infrastructure mega-projects over the past years has risen tremendously. Essentially, because infrastructure megaprojects require huge investment funds, better management skills, well qualified and experienced international expertise and technology innovation, they are mostly preferred to be procured using the PPP method compare to the use of the traditional bid-build system. In this regard, this paper aims to develop a fuzzy evaluation model for assessing the suitability of procuring infrastructure mega-projects through PPP by considering their risk exposure. The main body of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB)is used as a case project to demonstrate the practicality of the risk evaluation model. The risk evaluation model consists of four critical risk groupings, these include,construction and land risks, commercial risks, operational risks and political risks. Using the risk evaluation equation,a risk index of 4.53 out of 5.00 is computed for the selected project if it is procured through the PPP scheme. This outcome shows that the case project is not suitable for the PPP approach because its risk exposure is very high. The model developed will enable PPP practitioners to predict the likely risk exposure of procuring infrastructure megaprojects through the PPP scheme.展开更多
From previous boom-bust cycles of the housing market of the Hong Kong SAR of China,we find that the imbalance between housing demand and supply,the interaction between the stock market,financial institutions and the r...From previous boom-bust cycles of the housing market of the Hong Kong SAR of China,we find that the imbalance between housing demand and supply,the interaction between the stock market,financial institutions and the real estate market,and international capital flows are the key determinants of housing price movements in Hong Kong.A comparison between the current episode of high real estate prices and that in 1997 suggests that structural changes have taken place and that different underlying forces are in play,thus indicating a low likelihood of a similar crash in the housing market.However,it is still imperative for the Hong Kong SAR government to find effective ways to cool down the overheated housing market.While we agree that the actions taken by the government will be able to suppress the housing price in the long run,the short-term effect may not be satisfactory due to the time lags of these policies.展开更多
