Research on the Public Perception of Yangzhou Historical and Cultural Districts Based on Network Review Text Analysis

The historical and cultural districts of a city serve as important cultural heritage and tourism resources.This paper focused on four such districts in Yangzhou and performed semantic analysis on online public comments using ROST CM6 software.According to the high frequency words,attention preference of district site elements,activities and feelings in Yangzhou historical and cultural districts were analyzed.Through the analysis of semantic network and public emotional tendency,the relationship between the protection and utilization of Yangzhou historical and cultural districts and the perception and demand of users were discussed,and some suggestions for the protection,utilization and renewal of historical and cultural districts were put forward.

Public Perception on the Role of Urban Green Infrastructure Development and Land Use Management in Rapidly Urbanized Countries:The Case of Hawassa City,Ethiopia

Urban green areas are essential elements of cities and contribute to the quality of life in numerous ways by maintaining and regulating the environment.However,increased urbanization and development have placed urban green areas under extreme pressure,while unplanned urban growth has resulted in the loss of urban landscape and ecosystem.This study’s objective was the public perception on the role of urban green infrastructure and land use management.The 385 sample households were selected by using random sampling method.Descriptive and econometric analyses were used for analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data by using SPSS version 25.Among the major factors influencing the urban green infrastructure by respondents perception were education,income,family size,sex of respondent,marital status,type of employment,ownership of house,participation on public involvement,and frequency of visit to nearer planning which are significant variables in the model.Individuals visited the given green structure at least twice a week,and those not done it were 47.9% and 52.1%.The amount of individuals who visited it twice a week in positive perceivers was 64%,and the amount of those who have not done it was 36%.The Chi-square value of 10.9 was very big and telling us that the frequency of visit was determinant factor of perception.It is vital to keep in mind that while the built-up area and the agricultural areas are rising due to urbanization,the core-ecosystem land is being“eaten”as a result of the past and present land uses inside the administrative limits,as well as the services they provide.In the last 6 years,the rate at which the most precious ecosystems are disappearing has tripled.The population,which reflects the demand for these services and benefits,is still growing,putting more strain on the environment.The recommendations include:Public involvement in urban green space planning and development was determinant and core variable of the study.The government of the town administration should prepare the meeting.The result showed a high correlation between urban green planning and land use changes.

Systematic literature review on the applications,impacts,and public perceptions of autonomous vehicles in road transportation system

As the advancement of driverless technology,together with information and communication technology moved at a fast pace,autonomous vehicles have attracted great attention from both industries and academic sectors during the past decades.It is evident that this emerging technology has great potential to improve the pedestrian safety on roads,mitigate traffic congestion,increase fuel efficiency,and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.However,there is limited systematic research into the applications and public perceptions of autonomous vehicles in road transportation.The purpose of this systematic literature review is to synthesise and analyse existing research on the applications,implications,and public perceptions of autonomous vehicles in road transportation system.It is found that autonomous vehicles are the future of road transportation and that the negative perception of humans is rapidly changing towards autonomous vehicles.Moreover,to fully deploy autonomous vehicles in a road transportation system,the existing road transportation infrastructure needs significant improvement.This systematic literature review contributes to the comprehensive knowledge of autonomous vehicles and will assist transportation researchers and urban planners to understand the fundamental and conceptual framework of autonomous vehicle technologies in road transportation systems.

Public perception of electric vehicles on reddit over the past decade

Understanding public perception of electric vehicles(EVs)is imperative for increasing EV adoption,which can significantly reduce greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,thereby mitigating climate change and global warming.While most existing research characterizes public perception of EV in the context of surveys,questionnaires,or interviews,our study leverages Reddit online social network(OSN)data to capture EV public perception at a much larger scale.We have collected 3,437,917 Reddit posts(including 274,979 submissions and 3,162,938 comments)between January 2011 and December 2020 relevant to EVs and analyzed them along several axes to understand how EVs are perceived by the public on Reddit through the following research questions:(1)What EVrelated topics have been discussed by Reddit users?Whether/how Reddit users’interest in different topics has changed during 2011–2020?(2)What sentiment do Reddit users hold towards EVs?Whether public sentiment on Reddit has shifted over the past 10 years?(3)Whether/how do various Reddit communities(i.e.,subreddits)have different perceptions of EVs?Our analysis evinces the potential of utilizing a large-scale OSN dataset for demonstrating a much wider spectrum of topics that the public is interested in than previous studies show,reveals fringe communities including r/conspiracy have many(controversial)discussions on EVs,especially on the environmental impacts of EVs,and one political community(r/The_Donald)has similar patterns with fringe communities in both sentiment and topic aspects.By answering these research questions,we aim to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the public perception of EVs in the past decade.

How the African Public Views China＇s Aid to Africa

As a vital part of China's foreign relations,China's aid to Africa has scored great achievements.Based on data from the Afrobarometer Survey in 2010 and data from the database of China's aid to Africa in 2000-2010 co-created by the US Center for Global Development and AidData,this paper dissects the macro-and micro-level determinants of the African public's perception of the effectiveness of aid from China through an empirical analysis.As descriptive statistics reveal,the African public has a highly positive view of aid from China despite country differences.According to our further analysis of a multilevel model,aid recipients with higher levels of democracy and economic development have a more favorable view of aid from China,while the size and sector of aid from China are not correlated with public favorability.At the micro-level,age,gender,education,race and media consumption are positively correlated with the public perception of aid.In conclusion,China must refocus its future aid programs on livelihood and welfare that directly benefit local people,rather than simply increasing the amount of aid.In delivering its commitments to Africa,China must also attach importance to public communication and "telling the China story " in its international affairs to improve its national image and gain more recognition by the African people.

Wildlife Population Change in Africa from the Eyes of the Public—The Case of Mara Enoonkishu Conservancy in Southern Kenya

The aims of the study were to: 1) determine the wildlife population trends in the Mara Enoonkishu Conservancy from the eyes and minds of the public, 2) assess the recent trends in wildlife populations based on actual scientific counts, and 3) compare the two patterns and establish whether they are similar or not. The solicitation of public views was based on household surveys using a standard questionnaire which was administered to 115 randomly selected respondents. The dominant wildlife species according to 39% of the respondents was the elephant followed by the zebra with 35%. 40% of the respondents indicated that the rhino population had declined followed by wild dogs (7%) and cheetah (6%). The actual counts showed that the herbivores with increasing populations included the rhino (r2 = 0.9992), impala (r2 = 0.9824), Thomson’s gazelle (r2 = 0.6965), Grant’s gazelle (r2 = 0.7052), elephant (r2 = 0.5798), and topi (r2 = 0.4426) while the increasing predators included the lion (r2 = 1.000), cheetah (r2 = 0.9093) and hyena (r2 = 0.8462). The actual wildlife counts appeared to tally with the public views only for the elephant and zebra. The actual counts contradicted the public views in terms of the rhino, lion and gazelles whose numbers were on the increase but the people did not appear to notice. Based on this, it was concluded that the public view on the wildlife population trend was not similar to the actual wildlife population status on the ground based on scientific monitoring.

An evaluation approach to spatial identity in historic urban areas from a humanistic perspective

Urban spatial identity,as the core content of a distinctive urban image and the representation of urban competitiveness and attraction,is critical to cities in the rapid development process.In view of maintaining and strengthening the spatial identity in a historic urban area,which is the key issue of urban construction in China at present,based on the literature review of Chinese urban spatial identity studies,three research paradigms are summarized:landscape,culture,and economy.Although the traditional evaluation method of spatial identity in historic urban areas has focused on the scarcity of characteristic resources,the relation-ship between characteristic resources and human beings has been ignored.Therefore,based on the declaration of the fundamental mechanism of urban spatial identity in historic urban areas,a new evaluation method was proposed considering four aspects,including object,subject,content,and indicators.The results indicated that the framework of evaluation and design,which is based on the assessment of the relationship between characteristic resources and human beings,is an effective strategy to improve the scientific evaluation of urban spatial identity.Our study has substantial implications for urban planners and managers in solving the urban identity crisis issue in historic urban areas.
