The Path to Reshaping the Structure and Chain System of the Publishing Industry in the Era of Big Data

Today,we are living in the era of“big data”where massive amounts of data are used for quantitative decisions and communication management.With the continuous penetration of big data-based intelligent technology in all fields of human life,the enormous commercial value inherent in the data industry has become a crucial force that drives the aggregation of new industries.For the publishing industry,the introduction of big data and relevant intelligent technologies,such as data intelligence analysis and scenario services,into the structure and value system of the publishing industry,has become an effective path to expanding and reshaping the demand space of publishing products,content decisions,workflow chain,and marketing direction.In the integration and reconstruction of big data,cloud computing,artificial intelligence,and other related technologies,it is expected that a generalized publishing industry pattern dominated by virtual interaction will be formed in the future.

A privacy-preserving method for publishing data with multiple sensitive attributes

The overgeneralisation may happen because most studies on data publishing for multiple sensitive attributes(SAs)have not considered the personalised privacy requirement.Furthermore,sensitive information disclosure may also be caused by these personalised requirements.To address the matter,this article develops a personalised data publishing method for multiple SAs.According to the requirements of individuals,the new method partitions SAs values into two categories:private values and public values,and breaks the association between them for privacy guarantees.For the private values,this paper takes the process of anonymisation,while the public values are released without this process.An algorithm is designed to achieve the privacy mode,where the selectivity is determined by the sensitive value frequency and undesirable objects.The experimental results show that the proposed method can provide more information utility when compared with previous methods.The theoretic analyses and experiments also indicate that the privacy can be guaranteed even though the public values are known to an adversary.The overgeneralisation and privacy breach caused by the personalised requirement can be avoided by the new method.

Research on the Audio Publishing of Classical Books Based on the Theory of Business Model Canvas: Taking Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Digital Audio Platforms as an Example

Visual media have dominated sensory communications for decades,and the resulting“visual hegemony”leads to the call for the“auditory return”in order to achieve a holistic balance in cultural acceptance.Romance of the Three Kingdoms,a classic literary work in China,has received significant attention and promotion from leading audio platforms.However,the commercialization of digital audio publishing faces unprecedented challenges due to the mismatch between the dissemination of long-form content on digital audio platforms and the current trend of short and fast information reception.Drawing on the Business Model Canvas Theory and taking Romance of the Three Kingdoms as the main focus of analysis,this paper argues that the construction of a business model for the audio publishing of classical books should start from three aspects:the user evaluation of digital audio platforms,the establishment of value propositions based on the“creative transformation and innovative development”principle,and the improvement of the audio publishing infrastructure to ensure the healthy operation and development of the digital audio platforms and consequently improve their current state of development and expand the boundaries of cultural heritage.

The Book Publishing and Analysis of Modern Peking University Library

The paper is based on literature search,introducing and analyzing the book publishing situation of modern Peking University Library from the perspective of the publisher being Peking University Library and its predecessor.It is pointed out that the majority of the book printing methods published by the modern Peking University Library are lead printing,and among the types of Chinese library classification,catalogue of library collections is the most common.

Other Cities’Distribution Institutions for Publishing Books in Modern Chinese Libraries:Taking Huating Bookstore,the Shanghai General Distribution Office of Modern Zhejiang Library,as an Example

Many modern Chinese libraries have established distribution agencies in other cities to distribute books published or sold on consignment.Huating Bookstore,which was once the Shanghai General Distribution Office of Zhejiang Library in modern times,is one of them.On the basis of a brief description of modern Zhejiang Library and its book publishing,as well as the overview of Huating Bookstore,the paper introduces and analyzes the ZPL Publishing Book Catalogue sent by Huating Bookstore,and the ZPL publishing and selling consignment books issued by Huating Bookstore.It points out that Huating Bookstore is a bridge between the ZPL located in Hangzhou and various retail ZPL publishing bookstores in Shanghai.Their production and sales relationship is a mutually beneficial one.

Technological Innovation and Development of the Publishing Industry: The Challenging Digital Transformation of Publishing Houses in Cameroon

In the digital age, performance-oriented publishing houses utilize digital tools to optimize their editorial activities. This optimization affects both editorial practices and products in terms of content and form. These products, now accessible through various media, bring significant changes, while the editorial function undergoes a metamorphosis due to digital exposure. In Cameroon, the book sector is predominantly focused on school textbooks, a legacy from the colonial period. This study investigates the impact of technological innovation on Cameroonian publishing by examining the processes of content selection, legitimization, and dissemination in the digital age. Using the sociology of technology as a framework, we hypothesize an interrelationship between the dominance of textbook publishing and the delayed digital transformation of publishing houses in Cameroon. To explore this hypothesis, we conducted direct observations, interviews with key industry stakeholders, and an extensive analysis of digital adoption metrics within the publishing sector. Our research reveals that the historical focus on educational publishing has created structural and cultural barriers to embracing digital innovations. Moreover, limited infrastructure and a lack of digital literacy among publishing professionals further hinder the transition. Despite these challenges, there are emerging opportunities for digital transformation, particularly in diversifying content and expanding access through digital platforms. Our findings indicate that a strategic shift towards embracing digital tools and improving infrastructure could significantly enhance the efficiency and reach of Cameroonian publishing houses. By addressing the specific challenges identified in our study, the industry can leverage digital technologies to foster a more inclusive, dynamic, and resilient publishing environment. This study provides a detailed examination of the specificities of digital transformation in Cameroonian publishing, offering insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders aiming to promote technological innovation in the sector.

Analysis of the Books Issued by Yadong Library, Published by Peking University Publishing Department: Taking Several Bibliography Advertisements Carried in Newspapers and Magazines From 1919-1922 as Examples

Based on several bibliographic advertisements carried in newspapers and magazines from 1919 to 1922 for books published by Peking University Publishing Department,and issued by Yadong Library,the paper analyzes the characteristics of the books published by Peking University Publishing Department during this period,and points out that Yadong Library entered its golden period of development due to move from the alley to the main road and obtain the management rights of the books published by Peking University Publishing Department.

A New Anonymity Model for Privacy-Preserving Data Publishing

Privacy-preserving data publishing （PPDP） is one of the hot issues in the field of the network security. The existing PPDP technique cannot deal with generality attacks, which explicitly contain the sensitivity attack and the similarity attack. This paper proposes a novel model, （w,γ, k）-anonymity, to avoid generality attacks on both cases of numeric and categorical attributes. We show that the optimal （w, γ, k）-anonymity problem is NP-hard and conduct the Top-down Local recoding （TDL） algorithm to implement the model. Our experiments validate the improvement of our model with real data.

A Method of Eliminating Information Disclosure in View Publishing

Although it is convenient to exchange data by publishing view, but it may disclose sensitive information. The problem of how to eliminate information disclosure becomes a core problem in the view publishing process. In order to eliminate information disclosure, deciding view security algorithm and eliminating information disclosure algorithm are proposed, and the validity of the algorithms are proved by experiment. The experimental results showing, deciding view security algorithm can decide the safety of a set of views under prior knowledge, and eliminating information disclosure algorithm can eliminate disclosure efficiently.

Medical data publishing based on average distribution and clustering

Most of the data publishing methods have not considered sensitivity protection,and hence the adversary can disclose privacy by sensitivity attack.Faced with this problem,this paper presents a medical data publishing method based on sensitivity determination.To protect the sensitivity,the sensitivity of disease information is determined by semantics.To seek the trade-off between information utility and privacy security,the new method focusses on the protection of sensitive values with high sensitivity and assigns the highly sensitive disease information to groups as evenly as possible.The experiments are conducted on two real-world datasets,of which the records include various attributes of patients.To measure sensitivity protection,the authors define a metric,which can evaluate the degree of sensitivity disclosure.Besides,additional information loss and discernability metrics are used to measure the availability of released tables.The experimental results indicate that the new method can provide better privacy than the traditional one while the information utility is guaranteed.Besides value protection,the proposed method can provide sensitivity protection and available releasing for medical data.

Redesigning the Model of Book Evaluation in the Polish Performance-based Research Funding System

Purpose: This study aims to present the key systemic changes in the Polish book evaluation model to focus on the publisher list, as inspired by the Norwegian Model. Design/methodology/approach: In this study we reconstruct the framework of the 2010 and 2018 models of book evaluation in Poland within the performance-based research funding system. Findings: For almost 20 years the book evaluation system in Poland has been based on the verification of various technical criteria(e.g. length of the book). The new 2018 model is based on the principle of prestige inheritance(a book is worth as much as its publisher is) and is inspired by the publisher list used in the Norwegian Model. In this paper, we argue that this solution may be a more balanced policy instrument than the previous 2010 model in which neither the quality of the publisher nor the quality of the book played any role in the evaluation.Research limitations: We work from the framework of the 2018 model of book evaluation specified in the law on higher education and science from 20 July 2018, as implementation acts are not available yet. Practical implications: This study may provide a valuable point of reference on how structural reforms in the research evaluation model were implemented on a country level. The results of this study may be interesting to policy makers, stakeholders and researchers focused on science policy. Originality/value: This is the very first study that presents the new framework of the Polish research evaluation model and policy instruments for scholarly book evaluation. We describe what motivated policy makers to change the book evaluation model, and what arguments were explicitly raised to argue for the new solution.

A Dynamic Social Network Data Publishing Algorithm Based on Differential Privacy

Social network contains the interaction between social members, which constitutes the structure and attribute of social network. The interactive relationship of social network contains a lot of personal privacy information. The direct release of social network data will cause the disclosure of privacy information. Aiming at the dynamic characteristics of social network data release, a new dynamic social network data publishing method based on differential privacy was proposed. This method was consistent with differential privacy. It is named DDPA (Dynamic Differential Privacy Algorithm). DDPA algorithm is an improvement of privacy protection algorithm in static social network data publishing. DDPA adds noise which follows Laplace to network edge weights. DDPA identifies the edge weight information that changes as the number of iterations increases, adding the privacy protection budget. Through experiments on real data sets, the results show that the DDPA algorithm satisfies the user’s privacy requirement in social network. DDPA reduces the execution time brought by iterations and reduces the information loss rate of graph structure.

Perspectives from a publishing ethics and research integrity team for required improvements

It is imperative that all stakeholders within the research ecosystem take responsibility to improve research integrity and reliability of published research.Based on the unique experiences of a specialist publishing ethics and research integrity team within a major publisher,this article provides insights into the observed trends of misconduct and how those have evolved over time,and addresses key actions needed to improve the interface between researchers,funders,institutions and publishers to collectively improve research integrity on a global scale.

Factors Influencing Cities’ Publishing Efficiency

Purpose:Recently,a vast number of scientific publications have been produced in cities in emerging countries.It has long been observed that the publication output of Beijing has exceeded that of any other city in the world,including such leading centres of science as Boston,New York,London,Paris,and Tokyo.Researchers have suggested that,instead of focusing on cities'total publication output,the quality of the output in terms of the number of highly cited papers should be examined.However,in the period from 2014 to 2016,Beijing produced as many highly cited papers as Boston,London,or New York.In this paper,another method is proposed to measure cities'publishing performance by focusing on cities'publishing efficiency(i.e.,the ratio of highly cited articles to all articles produced in that city).Design/methodology/approach:First,554 cities are ranked based on their publishing efficiency,then some general factors influencing cities'publishing efficiency are revealed.The general factors examined in this paper are as follows:the linguistic environment of cities,cities'economic development level,the location of excellent organisations,cities'international collaboration patterns,and their scientific field profile.Furthermore,the paper examines the fundamental differences between the general factors influencing the publishing efficiency of the top 100 most efficient cities and the bottom 100 least efficient cities.Findings:Based on the research results,the conclusion can be drawn that a city's publishing efficiency will be high if meets the following general conditions:it is in a country in the Anglosphere-Core;it is in a high-income country;it is home to top-ranked universities and/or world-renowned research institutions;researchers affiliated with that city most intensely collaborate with researchers affiliated with cities in the United States,Germany,England,France,Canada,Australia,and Italy;and the most productive scientific disciplines of highly cited articles are published in high-impact multidisciplinary journals,disciplines in health sciences(especially general internal medicine and oncology),and disciplines in natural sciences(especially physics,astronomy,and astrophysics).Research limitations:It is always problematic to demarcate the boundaries of cities(e.g.,New York City vs.Greater New York),and regarding this issue there is no consensus among researchers.The Web of Science presents the name of cities in the addresses reported by theauthors of publications.In this paper cities correspond to the spatial units between the country/state level and the institution level as indicated in the Web of Science.Furthermore,it is necessary to highlight that the Web of Science is biased towards English-language journals and journals published in the field of biomedicine.These facts may influence the outcome of the research.Practical implications:Publishing efficiency,as an indicator,shows how successful a city is at the production of science.Naturally,cities have limited opportunities to compete for components of the science establishment(e.g.,universities,hospitals).However,cities can compete to attract innovation-oriented companies,high tech firms,and R&D facilities of multinational companies by for example establishing science parks.The positive effect of this process on the city's performance in science can be observed in the example of Beijing,which publishing efficiency has been increased rapidly.Originality/value:Previous scientometric studies have examined cities'publication output in terms of the number of papers,or the number of highly cited papers,which are largely size dependent indicators;however this paper attempts to present a more quality-based approach.

A Differential Privacy Based (k-Ψ)-Anonymity Method for Trajectory Data Publishing

In recent years,mobile Internet technology and location based services have wide application.Application providers and users have accumulated huge amount of trajectory data.While publishing and analyzing user trajectory data have brought great convenience for people,the disclosure risks of user privacy caused by the trajectory data publishing are also becoming more and more prominent.Traditional k-anonymous trajectory data publishing technologies cannot effectively protect user privacy against attackers with strong background knowledge.For privacy preserving trajectory data publishing,we propose a differential privacy based(k-Ψ)-anonymity method to defend against re-identification and probabilistic inference attack.The proposed method is divided into two phases:in the first phase,a dummy-based(k-Ψ)-anonymous trajectory data publishing algorithm is given,which improves(k-δ)-anonymity by considering changes of thresholdδon different road segments and constructing an adaptive threshold setΨthat takes into account road network information.In the second phase,Laplace noise regarding distance of anonymous locations under differential privacy is used for trajectory perturbation of the anonymous trajectory dataset outputted by the first phase.Experiments on real road network dataset are performed and the results show that the proposed method improves the trajectory indistinguishability and achieves good data utility in condition of preserving user privacy.

China Internet Based Academic Journals Digital Publishing Models Study

The research takes three fundamental Internet Academic Journals (IAJ), which are China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chongqing VIP Information Co., Ltd. (VIP) and Beijing Wanfang Data Co., Ltd. (WFD), as subjects to discuss digital publishing mechanism innovations for China’s science information communication system. After introducing main Internet environment, comparing journal characteristics, and explaining publishing & operation modes of the IAJs, the paper analyses important issues such as redundant contents, digitalization issues, illegal journals, standards construction, copyright and benefit distribution. By learning from research practices and open access, a new benefit distribution and copyright management mode based on the Third Party Agency (TPA) is proposed. Future IAJs operation modes are also discussed from the view of scientific research innovation and state of the art platform construction.

SecSPS: A Secure and Privacy-Preserving Framework for Smart Parking Systems

Smart parking systems are a crucial component of the “smart city” concept, especially in the age of the Internet of Things (IoT). They aim to take the stress out of finding a vacant parking spot in city centers, due to the increasing number of cars, especially during peak hours. To realize the concept of smart parking, IoT-enabling technologies must be utilized, as the traditional way of developing smart parking solutions entails a lack of scalability, compatibility with IoT-constrained devices, security, and privacy awareness. In this paper, we propose a secure and privacy-preserving framework for smart parking systems. The framework relies on the publish/subscribe communication model for exchanging a huge volume of data with a large number of clients. On one hand, it provides functional services, including parking vacancy detection, real-time information for drivers about parking availability, driver guidance, and parking reservation. On the other hand, it provides security approaches on both the network and application layers. In addition, it supports mutual authentication mechanisms between entities to ensure device/ data authenticity, and provide security protection for users. That makes our proposed framework resilient to various types of security attacks, such as replay, phishing, and man-in-the-middle attacks. Finally, we analyze the performance of our framework, which is suitable for IoT devices, in terms of computation and network overhead.
