As an important plant species with high protein contents,wild soybean(Glycine soja),has drawn much attention and appeared to be useful for the genetic improvement of soybean germplasms.Since temperature is one of the ...As an important plant species with high protein contents,wild soybean(Glycine soja),has drawn much attention and appeared to be useful for the genetic improvement of soybean germplasms.Since temperature is one of the numerous environmental factors affecting the germination of most plants,an experimental study was carried out to determine the effect of temperature on germination of wild soybean(G.soja)seeds.Germination test was conducted by setting up thirty-six constant and alternating temperature regimes,ranging from 5 to 40 ℃(16 h night/8 h day).Responses in germination rate to these temperature regimes were then used to construct a quadratic response surface,giving estimated germination rates with confidence intervals at P ≤ 0.05.The results showed that germination capacity was significantly greater while exposed to constant temperatures of 25 ℃,and under the alternating temperature regime the optimum temperature occurred at the 20/25,25/25,25/30 ℃ regime(16 h/8 h)with the amplitude widened from 0 to 5 ℃.Together with regional monthly climate data,these results could be used to improve and promote the cultivation of wild soybean(G.soja),making it available to develop the location-specific optimum seeding time and to apply weed-control treatments.展开更多
This paper makes an approach to the approximate optimum in structural design,which combines the global response surface(GRS) based multivariate adaptive regression splines(MARS) with Move-Limit strategy(MLS).MAR...This paper makes an approach to the approximate optimum in structural design,which combines the global response surface(GRS) based multivariate adaptive regression splines(MARS) with Move-Limit strategy(MLS).MARS is an adaptive regression process,which fits in with the multidimensional problems.It adopts a modified recursive partitioning strategy to simplify high-dimensional problems into smaller highly accurate models.MLS for moving and resizing the search sub-regions is employed in the space of design variables.The quality of the approximation functions and the convergence history of the optimization process are reflected in MLS.The disadvantages of the conventional response surface method(RSM) have been avoided,specifically,highly nonlinear high-dimensional problems.The GRS/MARS with MLS is applied to a high-dimensional test function and an engineering problem to demonstrate its feasibility and convergence,and compared with quadratic response surface(QRS) models in terms of computational efficiency and accuracy.展开更多
This paper presents LQR sliding surface-based Sliding Mode Controller(LQR-SMC)for balancing control of a Rotary Double Inverted Pendulum(RDIP)system.It is a challenging research topic in control engineering due to its...This paper presents LQR sliding surface-based Sliding Mode Controller(LQR-SMC)for balancing control of a Rotary Double Inverted Pendulum(RDIP)system.It is a challenging research topic in control engineering due to its nonlinearity and instability.The RDIP system uses only a motor to control two serially connected pendulums to stand at the upright position.The sliding surface is designed based on the LQR optimal gain.Nonsingular gain matrix is obtained by using the left inverse of the input matrix in the state space form of the system dynamics.The Lyapunov stability theory is used to determine the stability of the controller.To evaluate the performance of LQR-SMC,some performance indices,including the Integral Absolute Error(IAE),Integral Time Absolute Error(ITAE),and the Integrated Square Error(ISE),are used.System stability can be maintained by LQR-SMC under external disturbances as well as model and parameter uncertainties.展开更多
