In an era where digital technology is paramount, higher education institutions like the University of Zambia (UNZA) are employing advanced computer networks to enhance their operational capacity and offer cutting-edge services to their academic fraternity. Spanning across the Great East Road campus, UNZA has established one of the most extensive computer networks in Zambia, serving a burgeoning community of over 20,000 active users through a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). However, as the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is besieged with burgeoning challenges that threaten the very fabric of network integrity—cyber security threats and the imperatives of maintaining high Quality of Service (QoS). In an effort to mitigate these threats and ensure network efficiency, the development of a mobile application to monitor temperatures in the server room was imperative. According to L. Wei, X. Zeng, and T. Shen, the use of wireless sensory networks to monitor the temperature of train switchgear contact points represents a cost-effective solution. The system is based on wireless communication technology and is detailed in their paper, “A wireless solution for train switchgear contact temperature monitoring and alarming system based on wireless communication technology”, published in the International Journal of Communications, Network and System Sciences, vol. 8, no. 4, pp. 79-87, 2015 [1]. Therefore, in this study, a mobile application technology was explored for monitoring of temperatures in the server room in order to aid Cisco device performance. Cloud computing facilitates the great potentiality of storing and managing remote access to services in terms of software as a service(SaaS).Several organizations have moved towards outsourcing over the cloud to reduce the burden on local resources.In this context,the metaheuristic optimization method is determined to be highly suitable for selecting appropriate services that comply with the requirements of the client’s requests,as the services stored over the cloud are too complex and scalable.To achieve better service composition,the parameters of Quality of Service(QoS)related to each service considered to be the best resource need to be selected and optimized for attaining potential services over the cloud.Thus,the cloud service composition needs to concentrate on the selection and integration of services over the cloud to satisfy the client’s requests.In this paper,a Hybrid Chameleon and Honey Badger Optimization Algorithm(HCHBOA)-based cloud service composition scheme is presented for achieving efficient services with satisfying the requirements ofQoS over the cloud.This proposed HCHBOA integrated the merits of the Chameleon Search Algorithm(CSA)and Honey Badger Optimization Algorithm(HBOA)for balancing the tradeoff between the rate of exploration and exploitation.It specifically used HBOA for tuning the parameters of CSA automatically so that CSA could adapt its performance depending on its incorporated tuning factors.The experimental results of the proposed HCHBOA with experimental datasets exhibited its predominance by improving the response time by 21.38%,availability by 20.93%and reliability by 19.31%with a minimized execution time of 23.18%,compared to the baseline cloud service composition schemes used for investigation. 展开更多

In a cloud manufacturing environment with abundant functionally equivalent cloud services,users naturally desire the highest-quality service(s).Thus,a comprehensive measurement of quality of service(QoS)is needed.Opti-mizing the plethora of cloud services has thus become a top priority.Cloud ser-vice optimization is negatively affected by untrusted QoS data,which are inevitably provided by some users.To resolve these problems,this paper proposes a QoS-aware cloud service optimization model and establishes QoS-information awareness and quantification mechanisms.Untrusted data are assessed by an information correction method.The weights discovered by the variable precision Rough Set,which mined the evaluation indicators from historical data,providing a comprehensive performance ranking of service quality.The manufacturing cloud service optimization algorithm thus provides a quantitative reference for service selection.In experimental simulations,this method recommended the optimal services that met users’needs,and effectively reduced the impact of dis-honest users on the selection results. 展开更多

In this style of computing, users can access a shared pool of computing resources which are provisioned with minimal management efforts of users. Yet there are some obstacles and concerns about the use of clouds. Guaranteeing quality of service QoS by service providers can be regarded as one of the main concerns for companies tending to use it. Service provisioning in clouds is based on service level agreements representing a contract negotiated between users and providers. According to this contract, if a provider cannot satisfy its agreed application requirements, it should pay penalties as compensation. Wireless sensor networks(WSNs)are characterized by heterogeneous traffic types(audio,video,data)and diverse application traffic requirements.This paper introduces three traffic classes following the defined model of heterogeneous traffic differentiation in WSNs.The requirements for each class regarding sensitivity to QoS(Quality of Service)parameters,such as loss,delay,and jitter,are described.These classes encompass real-time and delay-tolerant traffic.Given that QoS evaluation is a multi-criteria decision-making problem,we employed the AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process)method for multi-criteria optimization.As a result of this approach,we derived weight values for different traffic classes based on key QoS factors and requirements.These weights are assigned to individual traffic classes to determine transmission priority.This study provides a thorough comparative analysis of the proposed model against existing methods,demonstrating its superior performance across various traffic scenarios and its implications for future WSN applications.The results highlight the model’s adaptability and robustness in optimizing network resources under varying conditions,offering insights into practical deployments in real-world scenarios.Additionally,the paper includes an analysis of energy consumption,underscoring the trade-offs between QoS performance and energy efficiency.This study presents the development of a differentiated services model for heterogeneous traffic in wireless sensor networks,considering the appropriate QoS framework supported by experimental analyses. 展开更多

Cloud computing is providing IT services to its customer based on Service level agreements(SLAs).It is important for cloud service providers to provide reliable Quality of service(QoS)and to maintain SLAs accountability.Cloud service providers need to predict possible service violations before the emergence of an issue to perform remedial actions for it.Cloud users’major concerns;the factors for service reliability are based on response time,accessibility,availability,and speed.In this paper,we,therefore,experiment with the parallel mutant-Particle swarm optimization(PSO)for the detection and predictions of QoS violations in terms of response time,speed,accessibility,and availability.This paper also compares Simple-PSO and Parallel MutantPSO.In simulation results,it is observed that the proposed Parallel MutantPSO solution for cloud QoS violation prediction achieves 94%accuracy which is many accurate results and is computationally the fastest technique in comparison of conventional PSO technique. 展开更多

Web Service是目前研究界和产业界广泛关注的技术之一.随着Web Service的广泛应用,研究者们普遍认识到,服务的非功能属性,即服务质量(Quality of Service,QoS)是面向服务的应用能否成功的关键因素之一.因此,研究者们尝试从多个角度对QoS相关问题展开了研究.然而,现有工作普遍关注基于QoS的动态服务选择和组装等上层应用技术,而对于如何获取、存储、度量QoS等基础支持技术研究较少,而这些基础性工作对QoS相关的研究工作具有显著的重要性.此外,不同应用领域对Web Service QoS的需求不尽相同,因此,需要有一套灵活的机制支持在QoS模型定义、QoS度量方法、QoS信息采集等方面体现出的领域特性.针对这个问题,文中提出了一个可扩展的Web Service QoS信息管理框架,详细分析了该框架涉及到的重要方法与核心技术,并给出了该框架在北京大学软件构件库系统中的设计决策和方案.最后,介绍了文中框架在一个863计划项目中的应用实例,该实例展示了用户根据其应用的领域需求对本框架进行扩展并进行Web Service QoS管理的方法,从而验证了本管理框架的可扩展性及实用性. 展开更多

In order to enable quality-aware web services selection in the process of service composition,this paper first describes the non-functional requirements of service consumers and the quality of elementary service or composite service as a quality vector,and then models the QoS(quality of service)-aware composition as a multiple criteria optimization problem in extending directed graph.A novel simulated annealing algorithm for QoS-aware web services composition is presented.A normalizing for composite service QoS values is made,and a secondary iterative optimization is used in the algorithm.Experimental results show that the simulated annealing algorithm can satisfy the multiple criteria and global QoS requirements of service consumers.The algorithm produces near optimum solution with much less computation cost. 展开更多

Different QoS requirements are converted into different rate requirements to calculate the QoSs atisfaction level.The optimization object is revised as a fairness-driven resource optimization function to provide fairness. The complex resource allocation problem is divided into channel allocation and power assignment sub-problems. The sub-problems are solved by the bipartite graph matching and water-filling based method.Compared with other algorithms the proposed algorithm sacrifices less data rate for higher fairnes and QoS satisfaction.The sim ulation results show that the proposed algorithm is capableo fp rovi ding QoS and fairness and performs better in a tradeoff among QoS fairness and data rate. 展开更多

To achieve high quality of service (QoS) on computational grids, the QoS-aware job scheduling is investigated for a hierarchical decentralized grid architecture that consists of multilevel schedulers. An integrated QoS-aware job dispatching policy is proposed, which correlates priorities of incoming jobs used for job selecting at the local scheduler of the grid node with the job dispatching policies at the global scheduler for computational grids. The stochastic high-level Petri net (SHLPN) model of a two-level hierarchy computational grid architecture is presented, and a model refinement is made to reduce the complexity of the model solution. A performance analysis technique based on the SHLPN is proposed to investigate the QoS-aware job scheduling policy. Numerical results show that the QoS-aware job dispatching policy outperforms the QoS-unaware job dispatching policy in balancing the high-priority jobs, and thus enables priority-based QoS. 展开更多
