In Quebec,Canada,the public healthcare system offers free medical services.However,patients with spinal pain often encounter long waiting times for specialist appointments and limited physiotherapy coverage.In contras...In Quebec,Canada,the public healthcare system offers free medical services.However,patients with spinal pain often encounter long waiting times for specialist appointments and limited physiotherapy coverage.In contrast,private clinics provide expedited care but are relatively scarce and entail out-of-pocket expenses.Once a patient with pain caused by a spinal disorder meets a pain medicine specialist,spinal intervention is quickly performed when indicated,and patients are provided lifestyle advice.Transforaminal epidural steroid injections are frequently administered to patients with radicular pain,and steroid injections are administered on a facet joint to control low back or neck pain.Additionally,medial branch blocks are performed prior to thermocoagulation.France’s universal healthcare system ensures accessibility at controlled costs.It emphasizes physical activity and provides free physical therapy services.However,certain interventions,such as transforaminal and interlaminar epidural injections,are not routinely used in France owing to limited therapeutic efficacy and safety concerns.This underutilization may be a potential cause of chronic pain for many patients.By examining the differences,strengths,and weaknesses of these two systems,valuable insights can be gained for the enhancement of global spinal pain management strategies,ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.展开更多

The results i...Permafrost temperatures from the surface down to about 9 m from 3 boreholes distributed around Kangiqsualujjuaq village on the coast of Hudson Strait were recorded and analyzed for the period 1989 1998. The results indicate that the permafrost is getting warm along the southern shore of Hudson Strait from 1993 to 1998 though it became cooling for the past 40 a or more. The observed trend in the order of 0.098℃/a at the 9 m depth is consistent with the long term regional warming observed in air temperatures. It also coincides with that all the global circulation models predict an enhanced warming in polar regions associated with the increase in concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.展开更多

In order to maximize the effectiveness of E-government and realize its vast potential, several fundamental conditions must exist tofacilitate an enabling environment.The main purpose of this study was to provide effective mechanisms and procedures that define the e-government environment in Quebec and to demonstrate their capacity (or lack thereof) for assessing and developing e-governance in Canada. This was achieved through a theoretical analysis of the fundamental indicators of information and communication technology and some critical measures in terms of human, political, legal, and administrative resource capacities to perform this kind of management at the level of Quebec State in Canada.展开更多
The media has played an important role in raising the public awareness and knowledge on child abuse.Yet,we do not know how child psychological maltreatment was presented in the media and how it might colour our common...The media has played an important role in raising the public awareness and knowledge on child abuse.Yet,we do not know how child psychological maltreatment was presented in the media and how it might colour our common understanding of the problem.This article presents the results of a qualitative research on social representations of child psychological maltreatment in the Quebec media.More specifically,the study aimed to investigate how child abuse and child psychological maltreatment were presented in the Quebec media when psychological maltreatment was formally integrated into the Youth Protection Act in 2006.85 newspaper articles were analyzed.We identified various forms of anchoring and objectivation of social representations,including the emotional anchoring and objectivation of abuse in moral outrage,compassion,and fear,as well as various metaphors,personifications,and antinomies related to the issue.Cross-sectional analysis of the data revealed the thematic anchoring of representations of child maltreatment in the thêmata self/other and justice/injustice.This article discusses the implications of these results regarding social exclusion and the othering process of marginalized groups.Finally,we will address the repercussions of these thêmata on current solutions and action plans to end child abuse and maltreatment.展开更多
Pendant longtemps,les Canadiens francais,partout au pays,se sont définis comme une communauté de mémoire,d’histoire,de culture,voire meme de destin.Or,à partir des années 1960,d’importantes ...Pendant longtemps,les Canadiens francais,partout au pays,se sont définis comme une communauté de mémoire,d’histoire,de culture,voire meme de destin.Or,à partir des années 1960,d’importantes transformations socioéconomiques amènent les francophones à adopter davantage des identités provinciales.De nombreux sociologues et historiens en ont conclu à la disparition d’une mémoire commune à tous les Canadiens francais.Notre équipe de recherche a visité treize écoles de langue francaise dans les provinces du Québec et de l’Ontario en 2016 pour demander à plus de 600 étudiants de rédiger un texte sur l’histoire des francophones au pays afin de sonder leurs représentations du passé.Il ressort de cette étude que la plupart des étudiants partagent une vision commune de leur passé fondée sur l’attachement à leurs origines francaises,les luttes pour la survie du fait francais en Amérique,ainsi qu’un sens de fragilité et d’inachèvement à l’égard de l’avenir de leur culture.展开更多
