Herein, the objective of this study was to examine an innovative approach to rapidly synthesis silver nanoparticles from an aqueous extract of medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum (also known as reishi). The structural and dimensional dispersion of the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles from reishi was confirmed by UV-Vis spectrophotometer (UV-Vis) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. Additionally, the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles from resihi were used to explore their potential antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Micrococcus luteus and Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results from this study revealed that the silver nanoparticles mediated by reishi adopted a spherical shape morphology with sizes, less than 100 nm and revealed strong absorption plasmon band at 440 nm. Furthermore, the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles from reishi exhibited antibacterial activity against the tested S. aureus and M. luteus and E. coli and K. pneumoniae by altering their morphology which signifies their biomedical potential.展开更多

Our results revealed that oral co-administration of 110 mg/kg RM by gavage to fibrotic rats offered an obvious hepatic protection as assured by the significant decrement in ALT and AST, HP content, MDA and NO levels with elevation of the antioxidant enzymes activities. The levels of TGF-β, TNF-α, HO-1 and type-1 collagen and their m-RNA expression were markedly declined as compared with those of fibrotic rats. Microscopical examination revealed that the exposure of rats to radiation aggravated the effect of CCl4 causing extensive collagen deposition and marked pseudolobulation of the hepatic parenchyma indicative of bridging fibrosis. While, oral co-administration of RM obviously improved the state of steatosis and apparently suppressed hepatic fibrogenesis.展开更多

Recent research has shown that it may also have antiplatelet activity that is similar to aspirin. Likewise simvastatin has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation. In addition, montelukast has anecdotally related to one case of acquired thrombopathia and may interfere with platelet aggregation. We report a case of intraoperative hemorrhage with laparoscopic trocar placement and dissection in a patient concomitantly taking Ganoderma lucidum supplements, simvastatin and montelukast. The hemorrhage only responded to a transfusion of platelets. We believe this is the first report associating Ganoderma lucidum products with an intraoperative hemorrhage. We recommend that patients who are on simvastatin, montelukast or an anticoagulant should refrain from taking Ganoderma lucidum products for seven days prior to surgery.展开更多
