The flexor carpi radialis(FCR)is one of the long flexors, which is important in flexing and abducting the hand at the wrist. It originates at the medial epicondyle of the humerus and attaches at the base of the second metacarpal.Closed rupture of the long flexors of the finger is well-described,especially in association with rheumatoid hands. However, rupture of the FCR is rare;only 11 cases reported in the literature, most of them associated with scaphotrapezial-trapezoidal osteoarthritis. We describe 1 case of complete FCR rupture secondary to trauma, showing that long-term disability following FCR rupture is minimal. 展开更多

Tendon autografts play an important role in upper limb reconstruction and a working knowledge of tendon autograft options is essential for the surgeon. Although palmaris longus is often the first choice, other options like plantaris, extensor Hallucis longus, flexor carpi radialis are readily available. Advantages of autografts include easy availability, satisfactory biomechanical properties and the human body tends to accept its own tendons than from a donor. This review highlights the various options available and their anatomical and surgical considerations in procuring grafts for upper limb reconstructive work. 展开更多

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Non-invasive brain stimulation has been studied as a therapeutic adjunct for upper-limb recovery in patients with stroke. One type of stimulation, paired associative stimulation (PAS), has effects on plasticity in both patients and healthy participants. Lasting several hours, these effects are reversible and topographically specific. The goal was to investigate the presence of a lasting increase in motor cortex plasticity for extensor wrist muscles- extensor carpi radialis (ECR)- and an improvement in upper-limb function after 5 days of daily PAS in patients at the subacute post-stroke stage. 展开更多

Nerve transfers for peripheral nerve injuries have become increasingly popular over the past two decades. While techniques for ulnar nerve repair have been well-documented,more recent techniques for median and radial nerve branch reinnervation are still being explored. This review describes the outcomes of common and emerging techniques for reinnervation of the distal branches of the median and radial nerves. 展开更多
