Thus, the contribution of these events th...Rain flooding during June on the West Africa coastal area is analyzed by using the 95th and 75th percentiles, which represent extreme and intense rainfall events respectively. Thus, the contribution of these events that reaches around 50% shows their impact on the rainfall in June. Atmospheric and oceanic factors influence the rain flooding. Indeed, the extreme events are associated with easterly waves propagating from 20<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span>E, while those of intense events are initiated around 5<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span>E. The impact of oceanic conditions exhibits the warming of the equatorial rail and the Atlantic cold tongue, the warming of the whole ocean basin and a north-south dipole of SST anomalies. The West African monsoon that reaches Abidjan corresponds to a low-level atmospheric flow, whose upward motion extends in latitude from the ocean to the continent. An increase of disturbance contributes to enhancing these events. This is confirmed by the inflow on to the continent of oceanic moisture coming from the ventilation by evaporation of warm water. In addition, the coupled ocean-atmosphere simulations are one of the best candidates that could help to better explain these dramatic events. This study is useful because of showing solutions that could help in adoption of policies for the risks management related to these events.展开更多

The flooding stages are commonly lower than the high-tide level and the tidal range is relatively small. All these factors prohibit rapid discharge of floodwater and make the flood regimes here extremely sensitive to the sea level rise. The 1991 Plum Rain was examined, when precipitation was significantly higher than normal. The one-dimensional open-channel non-conservative flow model was used to simulate the stream flow in the channel network of studied area. GIS technology was used to delineate the maximum in undated area by analyzing the DEMs.展开更多
Flood is any flow of water, which overflows the natural or artificial banks of a body of water. Flooding is one of the fundamental environmental challenges that results from interaction between man and his environment...Flood is any flow of water, which overflows the natural or artificial banks of a body of water. Flooding is one of the fundamental environmental challenges that results from interaction between man and his environment. In Nigeria, Flooding is one of the most common environmental hazards and there is increasing vulnerability of populations and infrastructure to flooding and flood related hazards. This study used GIS as a tool to analyze the cause and the impact of flooding in the study area. The study used both primary and secondary data, through a questionnaire, geographic information system and remote sensing. The result showed that the nature of the basin in the study area resulted to the high volume of water in the major river (River Osun) during raining season, which resulted to overflow across its bank. Fieldwork shows that the river overflows its bank at 500 meters to the north and the south and the GIS analysis shows that over 1000 houses get affected at any point of flooding occurrences, hence the width of the river is less than 8 meters and the depth on the average in less than 10 meter over the bridge of the River Osun. The study recommends methods by which flooding could be controlled in the study area through regular dredging, effective waste management and drainage control.展开更多
Based on the thermodynamic characteristics of the summer monsoon and foe change of the lower layer wind fields, the relation between the early summer flood periods of southern China, Including the first flood period o...Based on the thermodynamic characteristics of the summer monsoon and foe change of the lower layer wind fields, the relation between the early summer flood periods of southern China, Including the first flood period of South China and the plum rains period of the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the activities of the summer monsoon is analysed. The establishment processes of the summer monsoon circulation of East Asia are investigated. It is shown that the beginning and ending of the flood periods are exactly in accordance with the arrival and departure of the fore boundary of the summer monsoon. The establishment process of the circulation from the very beginning of the arrival of the monsoon to the time of great prosperity of development are not the same for each year. They can be classified into four categories. Each category may have four or three stages. Besides, the structure of the summer monsoon regime of East Asia is not unitary. There exist four types of structure model of the monsoon regime of East Asia.展开更多
采用国产水动力学模型(integrated flood model system,IFMS),对“23·7”海河流域永定河系特大洪水中永定河泛区洪水演进及淹没范围变化进行精细化模拟复盘。将模拟结果与卫星遥感监测获取的泛区淹没范围进行对比,最大淹没面积误...采用国产水动力学模型(integrated flood model system,IFMS),对“23·7”海河流域永定河系特大洪水中永定河泛区洪水演进及淹没范围变化进行精细化模拟复盘。将模拟结果与卫星遥感监测获取的泛区淹没范围进行对比,最大淹没面积误差仅为8.8%,验证了该模型在永定河泛区洪水模拟中的可靠度。构建的永定河泛区模型可以准确反映分洪口门启闭、蓄滞洪量变化及泛区进退洪淹没过程。基于该模型,进一步研究雨带北移对该地区未来防洪情势的影响。结果表明:同等重现期的设计洪水受雨带北移影响后,将导致泛区防洪情势愈加严峻,雨带北移影响下的20 a一遇设计洪水最大淹没范围与现状情景下50 a一遇设计洪水最大淹没范围持平。因此,为更好地应对未来防洪情势的发展,需要针对永定河泛区提出更加合理的防洪规划并科学制定工程与非工程相结合的防洪措施。展开更多
