Geological exploration cores obtained from shale gas wells several kilometers deep often show different height-diameter ratios(H/D)because of complex geological conditions(core disking or developed fractures),which makes further standard specimen preparation for mechanical evaluation of reservoirs difficult. In multi-cluster hydraulic fracturing, shale reservoirs between planes of hydraulic fractures with different lengths could be simplified to have different H/D ratios.Discovering the effect of H/D on the mechanical characteristics of shale specimens with different bedding orientations will support mechanical evaluation tests of reservoirs based on disked geological cores and help to optimize multicluster fracturing programs. In this study,we performed uniaxial compression tests and acoustic emission(AE)monitoring on cylindrical Longmaxi shale specimens under five bedding orientations and four H/D ratios. The experimental results showed that both the H/D-dependent mechanical properties and AE parameters demonstrated significant anisotropy.Increasing H/D did not change the uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)evolution versus bedding orientation, demonstrating a V-shaped relationship, but enhanced the curve shape. The stress level of crack damage for the specimens significantly increased with increasing H/D,excluding the specimens with a bedding orientation of 0°.With increasing H/D,the cumulative AE counts of the specimens with each bedding orientation tended to exhibit a stepped jump against the loading time. The proportion of low-average-frequency AE signals(below 100 kHz)in specimens with bedding orientations of 45°and 60°increased to over 70%by increasing H/D,but it only increased to 40%in specimens with bedding orientations of 0°,30°,and 90°.Finally,an empirical model that can reveal the effect of H/D on anisotropic UCS of shale reservoir was proposed, the anisotropic proportion of tensile and shear failure cracks in specimens under four H/D ratios was classified based on the AE data, and the effect of H/D on the anisotropic crack growth of specimens was discussed. 展开更多

The open ratio of a current collector has a great impact on direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC)performance.Although a number of studies have investigated the influence of the open ratio of DMFC current collectors, far too little attention has been given to how geometry(including the shape and feature size of the flow field)affects a current collector with an equal open ratio. In this paper, perforated and parallel current collectors with an equal open ratio of 50%and different feature sizes are designed, and the corresponding experimental results are shown to explain the geometry effects on the output power of the DMFC.The results indicate that the optimal feature sizes are between 2 and 2.5 mm for both perforated and parallel flow field in the current collectors with an equal open ratio of 50%.This means that for passive methanol fuel cells,to achieve the highest output power, the optimal feature size of the flow field in both anode and cathode current collectors is between 2 and 2.5 mm under the operating mode of this experiment. The effects of rib and channel position are also investigated, and the results indicate that the optimum pattern depends on the feature sizes of the flow field. 展开更多

For high-speed railways, the smoothness of the railway line significantly affects the operational speed of trains. When the train passes through the turnout on a long-span bridge, the wheel-rail impacts caused by the turnout structure irregularities, and the instability arising from the bridge's flexural deformation lead to a strong coupling effect in the vehicle-turnout-bridge system. This significantly affects both ride comfort and operational safety. For addressing this issue, the present study considered a long-span continuous rigid-frame bridge as an example and established a train-turnout-bridge coupled dynamic model of high-speed railway.Utilizing a selfdeveloped dynamic simulation program, the study analysed the dynamic response characteristics when the train passes through the turnouts on the bridge. It also investigated the influence of different span-to-depth ratios of the bridge on the vehicle dynamic response when the train passes through the main line and branch line of turnouts and then proposed a span-to-depth ratio limit value for a long-span continuous rigid-frame bridge. The research findings suggest that the changes in the span-to-depth ratio have a relatively minor impact on the train’s operational performance but significantly affect the dynamic characteristics of the bridge structure.Based on the findings and a comprehensive assessment of safety indicators,it is advisable to establish a span-to-depth ratio limit of 1/4500 for a long-span continuous rigid-frame bridge. 展开更多

The aspect ratio of the structure has a significant impact on the overall stability of the ultra high-rise building. A large aspect ratio of the structure increases the risk of overturning and reduces the lateral stiffness of the structure, leading to significant tensile and compressive stresses in the isolated bearings. To study the effect of aspect ratio on the seismic response and overturning resistance of a new staggered story isolated structure, three models with different aspect ratios were established. Nonlinear time-history analysis of the three models was conducted using ETABS finite element software. The results indicate that the overturning moment and overturning resistance moment of the superstructure in the new staggered story isolated structure increase with an increasing aspect ratio. However, the increase in the overturning moment of the superstructure is much greater than the increase in the overturning resistance moment, resulting in a decrease in the overturning resistance ratio of the superstructure with an increasing aspect ratio. The overturning moment and overturning resistance moment of the substructure in the new staggered story isolated structure decrease with an increasing aspect ratio. However, the decrease in the overturning moment of the substructure is greater than the decrease in the overturning resistance moment, leading to an increase in the overturning resistance ratio of the substructure with an increasing aspect ratio. The decrease in the overturning resistance ratio of the superstructure in the new staggered story isolated structure is much greater than the increase in the overturning resistance ratio of the substructure. Therefore, as the aspect ratio of the overall structure increases, the overturning resistance ratio of the superstructure and the entire structure decreases. 展开更多

Methacrylic acid,an important organic chemical,is commercially manufactured starting from fossil feedstock. The decarboxylation of itaconic acid derived for biomass is a green route to the synthesis of methacrylic acid.In view of the problems existing in the researches on this route such as use of noble metal catalyst, harsh reaction conditions and low desired-product yield,we prepared a series of hydroxyapatite catalysts with different Ca/P molar ratios and evaluated their catalytic performance. The results showed that the hydroxyapatite catalyst with a Ca/P molar ratio of 1.58 had the best catalytic activity. The highest yield of MAA up to 61.2%was achieved with basically complete conversion of itaconic acid under the suitable reaction conditions of 1 equivalent of NaOH,2 MPa of N_(2),250℃,and 2 h.On this basis,a reaction network for the decarboxylation of itaconic acid to methacrylic acid catalyzed by hydroxyapatite was established. With the aid of catalyst characterization using X-ray powder diffraction,NH3/CO2 temperature-programmed desorption,N_(2)physisorption,inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy,we found that the distribution of surface acid sites and basic sites, crystal growth orientation, texture properties and morphology of hydroxyapatite varied with the Ca/P molar ratio.Furthermore, the change of the crystal growth orientation and its influence on the surface acidity and alkalinity were clarified. 展开更多

The particle size ratio(PSR)is an important parameter for binary granular materials, which may aect the microstructure and macro behaviors of granular materials. However, the eect of particle ratio on granular assemblies with dierent arrangements is still unclear. To explore and further clarify the eect of PSR in dierent packing structures, three types of numerical samples with regular, layered, and random packing are designed.Numerical results show that PSR has signi􀀀cant eects on binary granular samples with regular packing. The larger the PSR,the stronger the strength, the larger the modulus, and the smaller the angle between the shear band and the load direction. And a theoretical solution of the peak stress ratio vs.PSR is obtained for regular packing, and the results by DEM are in good agreement with the theoretical solution.Under layered packing,PSR has little eect on peak stress ratio due to similar microstructure obtained with the changing of PSR.The modulus slightly increased with the increase of PSR.Under random packing with small grain content of 50%,PSR has little eect in the range of 0.5–0.9,but in a larger range, larger PSR leads to greater modulus. 展开更多

The ultra-fine grained(UFG)pure titanium was prepared by equal channel angular pressing(ECAP)and rotary swaging(RS).The strain controlled low cycle fatigue(LCF)test was carried out at room temperature. The fatigue life prediction model and mean stress relaxation model under asymmetrical stress load were discussed. The results show that the strain ratio has a significant effect on the low cycle fatigue performance of the UFG pure titanium, and the traditional Manson-coffin model can not accurately predict the fatigue life under asymmetric stress load. Therefore, the SWT mean stress correction model and three-parameter power curve model are proposed, and the test results are verified. The final research shows that the threeparameter power surface model has better representation.By studying the mean stress relaxation phenomenon under the condition of R≠-1,it is revealed that the stress ratio and the strain amplitude are the factors that significantly afiect the mean stress relaxation rate, and the mean stress relaxation model with the two variables is calculated to describe the mean stress relaxation phenomenon of the UFG pure titanium under different strain ratios. The fracture morphology of the samples was observed by SEM,and it was concluded that the final fracture zone of the fatigue fracture of the UFG pure titanium was a mixture of ductile fracture and quasi cleavage fracture. The toughness of the material increases with the increase of strain ratio at the same strain amplitude. 展开更多

To understand the effects offiller-asphalt ratio on different properties of lignin and polyesterfiber reinforced shape memory polyurethane(SMPU)/styrene butadiene styrene(SBS)composite modified asphalt mortar(PSAM),as well as to reveal the reinforcing and toughening mechanisms of lignin and polyesterfibers on PSAM,SMPU,SBS and mineral powder werefirst utilized to prepare PSAM.Then the conventional, rheological and anti-cracking properties of ligninfiber reinforced PSAM(LFAM)and polyesterfiber reinforced PSAM(PFAM)at dif-ferentfiller-asphalt ratios were characterized.Test results indicate that the shear strength, deformation resistance and viscosity are increased after adding 0.8wt%ligninfiber or polyesterfiber and increasing thefiller-asphalt ratio from 0.8 to 1.2.The optimalfiller-asphalt ratio of 1.0 is proposed after comprehensive performance assessments of PSAM.Polyesterfiber shows a better reinforcing effect than ligninfiber, but its improvement in the thermal stability of PSAM is not significant at high temperatures.Additionally, the complex modulus, storage modulus, loss modulus and rutting resistance factor of PSAM are improved after adding ligninfiber and polyesterfiber,as well as show an increasing trend as thefiller-asphalt ratio is raised, but the phase angle is gradually decreased.Further, the increase of elastic components in PSAM effectively enhances the anti-deformation ability of PSAM at high temperatures, and polyesterfiber more obviously improves the high-temperature deformation resistance of PSAM than ligninfiber. Finally, the anti-cracking performance of PFAM and LFAM at low temperatures is reduced by 74.2%and 46.7%,respectively,as thefiller-asphalt ratio is raised from 0.8 to 1.2.The low-temperature anti-cracking performance of LFAM is lower than that of PFAM at the samefiller-asphalt ratio, even lower than that of PSA.Compared with ligninfiber, the anti-cracking performance and deformation resistance of PSAM at low temperature is more greatly enhanced by polyester fiber. 展开更多

The dissolution of alumina-based refractory ceramics in CaO-Al2O3-SiO_(2)slag melts was performed based on the in-situ observation system of an ultra-high-temperature laser confocal microscope, and the effect of the CaO/SiO_(2)slag mass ratio(C/S ratio)on the dissolution rate of alumina-based refractory ceramics was investigated. The results indicate that the dissolution rate increases with an increase of the C/S ratio and is mainly controlled by diffusion.During the early stage of dissolution, for all C/S ratios, the dissolution process conforms to the classical invariant interface approximation model.During the later stage of dissolution, when the C/S ratio is≥6,the dissolution process is significantly different from the model above because of the formation of a thick interfacial layer, which can be explained by dissolution kinetics. 展开更多

We conducted a series of experimental studies on the metallurgical properties of N-lump and F-lump ores used in Baosteel’s blast furnace, including thermal cracking, low-temperature reduction pulverization, reducibility, and droplet properties. The results show that the thermal burst properties of N-lump ore are better than those of F-lump ore.The low-temperature reduction degradation index(RDI) pulverization of the charge is the best when the ratios of N-lump ore and F-lump ore account for 35% each. The reduction performance of the charge is improved when F-lump and N-lump ores are mixed with sinter. In the softening-melting performance experiment, when the proportion of N-lump ore is 40%,the characteristic area value(S) as the charge permeability index is the smallest. When F-lump ore is mixed with sinter, its droplet performance improves compared with that of single F-lump ore.The proportion of F-lump ore should not exceed 15%. 展开更多

Series of TiO 2-ZnO heterojunction composite films with different n(Zn)/n(Ti) ratios were prepared by UDP450 magnetron sputter ion plating equipment, and the mole ratio of Zn to Ti was controlled by adjusting the current values of sputtering target. The effects of n(Zn)/n(Ti) on the microstructures of TiO2-ZnO films were investigated by SEM, AFM, Raman and XPS, and their photocatalytic decomposition of methyl orange solutions was evaluated. The results show that an increase in n(Zn)/n(Ti) typically results in a decrease in the grain size of composite films firstly and then an increase of grain size, while an increase in n(Zn)/n(Ti) leads to an increase in film roughness firstly and then a decrease in film roughness. Both grain size and roughness of TiO2-ZnO films reach the maximum and minimum at n(Zn)/n(Ti) of 1/9.3, respectively. The n(Zn)/n(Ti) shows little effect on the valences of Zn and Ti elements, which mainly exist in the form of TiO2 and ZnO phases. The n(Zn)/n(Ti) has influence on the amount of anatase/rutile TiO2 heterojunction in the film. With increase of the n(Zn)/n(Ti), the absorption intensity of the composite film increases and the absorption region extends to 450 nm, which is redshifted as much as 150 nm in comparison with the pure TiO2 films. However, the photocatalytic abilities of heterogeneous composite films do not depend on the n(Zn)/n(Ti) but rather on the microstructures of the TiO2-ZnO composite films. Degradation rate of the film reaches the maximum and the photocatalytic decomposition of pollutants works best when n(Zn)/n(Ti)=1:9.3. 展开更多

This paper establishes a model for the production cost of iron and steel enterprise. The variation rule of the production cost versus the iron/steel ratio for two cases, namely, fixed steel production and a fixed amount of molten iron,is analyzed, and the concept of a steel scrap threshold price is proposed.According to the analysis results, when the steel scrap unit price exceeds the steel scrap threshold price, an increase in the iron/steel ratio can reduce the production cost, and vice versa. When the gap between the steel scrap unit price and the steel scrap threshold price is relatively large, the impact of the iron/steel ratio on the production cost is more prominent.According to the calculation example, when steel production is fixed (284 358 t/month)and the steel scrap unit price is 263.2 yuan/t more than the steel scrap threshold price,an increase of 0.01 in the iron/steel ratio causes a monthly production cost reduction of approximately 750 000 yuan (2.63 yuan/t).When the amount of molten iron is fixed (270 425 t/month)and the steel scrap unit price is 140.7 yuan/t more than the threshold price,an increase of 0.01 in the iron/steel ratio causes a monthly production cost reduction of approximately 430 000 yuan (1.5 yuan/t).The results indicate that iron and steel enterprise should adjust the production strategy in time when the scrap price fluctuates, and then the production cost will be reduced. 展开更多

The daily intake of total dietary fiber (TDF) was evaluated from data of the National Nutrition Survey (NNS) in Japan for 41 years since 1947. An interrelationship between the nutrient intake, including TDF, and the mortality from colon cancer in Japanese people was calculated by a simple correlation coefficient and time-series correlation coeffcient.TDF intake per capita decreased rapidly from 27.4 g in 1947 to 15.8 g in 1963, and subsequently decreased by a lesser rate to 15.3 g in 1987. Fat intake increased rapidly from 18.0 g in 1950 to 56.6 g in 1987.The age-adjusted mortality from colon cancer shows a significant positive correlation with both the intakes of animal protein and of total fat, and the fat energy ratio. A time-series analysis indicates that the mortality from colon cancer was negatively correlated with TDF with a 15-27 year delay, the maximum correlation existing with a 23-year lag (r = -0.947). The TDF intake was less than 17.9 g in 1965. At the same time, the mortality from colon cancer increased rapidly. A fat/TDF ratio above 3.0 resulted in a rapid increase in colon cancer mortality. The non-adjusted mortality from colon cancer has much the same interrelationship with TDF and fat intake as the adjusted figures. It is suggested that the cause of the increased mortality from colon cancer in Japan is positively related to the increased intake of fat and protein. In addition, the decrease in TDF intake has accelerated the mortality of colon cancer after a delay of 23-24 years. The importance of fat/TDF as a nutritional criterion for the incidence of colon cancer needs to be better recognized 展开更多

The effects of Cu/Mg ratio on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of the AA7085 alloys were investigated by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), mechanical properties and corrosion testing. The results indicate that a better recrystallization inhibition and corrosion resistance can be achieved when Cu/Mg ratio is 1.6. When Cu/Mg ratio is 0.67, the alloy reveals better mechanical properties, and the tensile strength and yield strength of AA7085 alloys are 586 and 550 MPa, respectively. Moreover, both the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the alloy are reduced when Cu/Mg ratio is equal to 1.0. 展开更多

Background: The protein/energy ratio is important for the production performance and utilization of available feed resources by animals. Increased protein consumption by mammals leads to elevated feed costs and increased nitrogen release into the environment. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary protein/energy ratio on the growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and plasma metabolites of pigs of different genotypes. Methods: Bama mini-pigs and Landrace pigs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatment groups (Chinese conventional diet with low protein/energy ratio or National Research Council diet with high protein/energy ratio; n = 24 per treatment) in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. Blood and muscle samples were collected at the end of the nursery, growing, and finishing phases. Results: We observed significant interactions (P 〈 0.05) between breed and diet for total fat percentage, intramuscular fat (IMF) content, protein content in biceps femoris (BF) muscle, and plasma urea nitrogen (UN) concentration in the nursery phase; for average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), dry matter, IMF content in psoas major (PM) muscle, and plasma total protein and albumin concentrations in the growing phase; and for drip loss and plasma UN concentration in the finishing phase. Breed influenced (P 〈 0.05) growth performance, carcass traits, and meat quality, but not plasma metabolites. Throughout the trial, Landrace pigs showed significantly higher (P 〈 0.0_5) ADG, ADFI, dressing percentage, lean mass rate, and loin-eye area than did Bama mini-pigs, but significantly lower (P 〈 0.0.5) feed/gain ratio, fat percentage, backfat thickness, and IMF content. Dietary protein/energy ratio influenced the pH value, chemical composition of BF and PM muscles, and plasma activities of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, and plasma concentration of UN. Conclusions: Compared with Landrace pigs, Bama mini-pigs showed slower growth and lower carcass performance, but had better meat quality. Moreover, unlike Landrace pigs, the dietary protein/energy ratio did not affect the growth performance of Bama mini-pigs. These results suggest that, in swine production, low dietary protein/energy ratio may be useful for reducing feed costs and minimizing the adverse effects of ammonia release into the environment. 展开更多
