In this paper, mathematical analysis shows that the reconstruction of ultrasonic reflection mode tomography using a single transducer acting as both source and receiver far from the object can be obtained by employing filtered-backprojection algorithm which is widely used in X-ray tomography; but when the transducer is near to the object, this algorithm will result in image distortion. On the basis of mathematical analysis, we propose a new algorithm. Computer simulation demonstrates an obvious improvement in the reconstructed images employing this algorithm over the conventional filtered-backprojection method of X-ray tomography. 展开更多

In this work,we simulated 2D infrared spectroscopy(IR)spectroscopy in both transmission geometry and Brewster-angle reflection geometry.Light dispersion and the leakage of s-polarized light are considered in simulating the enhancement factor of the reflection mode.Our simulation shows that the dispersion in reflection will only alter the 2D IR lineshape slightly and can be corrected.Leaking spolarized light due to imperfectness of IR polarizers in the reflection geometry may limit the enhancement factor,but such limit is above what a typical experiment can reach.In the current experiment,the enhancement factor is mainly limited by the precision of incident angle,for which ordinary rotation stages are probably not adequate enough.Moreover,traditional energy ratio of pump and probe pulses,which is 9:1,may not be ideal and could be changed to 2:1 in the reflection geometry.Considering all the above factors,the enhancement on the order of 1000 is possible in the current experiment.Nevertheless,near-Brewster angle reflection will enhance both the signal and the noise caused by the signal itself,therefore this method only works if the noise is unrelated to the signal,particularly if the noise is caused by the fluctuation in the probe.It cannot improve the signal to noise ratio when the dominate noise is from the signal itself.The theoretical results here agree reasonably well with published experiment results and pave way for realizing even higher enhancement at nearer-Brewster angle. 展开更多

The influence of the most important parameters on the service life of reinforced asphalt overlay with geogrid materials in bending mode was examined by employing the Taguchi method and analysis of variance techniques. The objectives of this experiment was to investigate the effects of grid stiffness, tensile strength, coating type, amount of tack coat, overlay thickness, crack width and stiffnesses of asphalt overlay and existing asphalt concrete on propagation of the reflection cracking. Results indicate that the stiffnesses of cracked layer and overlay are the main significant factors that can directly improve the service life of an overlay against the reflection cracking. Generally, glass grid is more effective in reinforced overlay than polyester grid. Effect of crack width of the existing layer is significant when its magnitude increases from 6 to 9 mm. 展开更多

Nondestructive method of measuring soluble solids content (SSC) of citrus fruits was developed using Fourier transform near infrared reflectance (FT-NIR) measurements collected through optics fiber. The models describing the relationship between SSC and the NIR spectra of citrus fruits were developed and evaluated. Different spectra correction algorithms (standard normal variate (SNV), multiplicative signal correction (MSC)) were used in this study. The relationship between laboratory SSC and FT-NIR spectra of citrus fruits was analyzed via principle component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) re- gression method. Models based on the different spectral ranges were compared in this research. The first derivative and second derivative were applied to all spectra to reduce the effects of sample size, light scattering, instrument noise, etc. Different baseline correction methods were applied to improve the spectral data quality. Among them the second derivative method after baseline correction produced best noise removing capability and yielded optimal calibration models. A total of 170 NIR spectra were acquired; 135 NIR spectra were used to develop the calibration model; the remaining spectra were used to validate the model. The developed PLS model describing the relationship between SSC and NIR reflectance spectra could predict SSC of 35 samples with correlation coefficient of 0.995 and RMSEP of 0.79 °Brix. 展开更多

The relationship among acoustic absorption in the water, the boundaries losses on the surface and bottom and mode attenuation per cycle is presented, using the method of complex effective depth approximation. The equivalence of bottom refiection loss and mode attenuation per cycle, based on the work of Tindle [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 66, 250-255 (1979)],is proved to give rise to several deviation in the range of middle low frequency (200 Hz <f < 2 kHz). Some of the results are that (1) corresponding to the small grazing angle, mode attenuation per cycle distance is equal to the sum of boundaryls reflection losses and the transmission loss per cycle distance of the waveguide geometric ray, (2) the method of complex effective depth approximation can give mode attenuation coefficient an explicit physical interpretation, which is similar to ray-mode theory. 展开更多
