In order to facilitate self-compacting concrete to be better used in tunnel linings that can resist fires,a SiO_(2) aerogel-cement mortar coating was prepared.Based on the HC curve,a self compacting concrete cube specimens coated and uncoated with SiO_(2) aerogel-cement mortar(SiO_(2)-ACM)were heated to simulate tunnel fire for 0.5,1,1.5,2,2.5,3 and 4 h,respectively. The residual compressive strength was tested after the specimens were cooled to room temperature by natural cooling and water cooling. The results show that, the damages of specimens become more serious as fire time goes on,but the residual strength of specimens coated with SiO_(2)-ACM is always higher than that of uncoated with SiO_(2)-ACM.In addition, the residual strength of specimens cooled by water cooling is lower than that of natural cooling. However, for the specimens coated with SiO_(2)-ACM,the adverse effects of water cooling are lessened. With the increase of fire time, the protective effect of SiO_(2)-ACM is still gradually improved. Finally,a formula was established to predict the residual 150 mm cube compressive strength of specimens protected by SiO_(2)-ACM after a simulated tunnel fire. 展开更多

A SiC/ZrSiO4?SiO2 (SZS) coating was successfully fabricated on the carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by pack cementation, slurry painting and sintering to improve the anti-oxidation property and thermal shock resistance. The anti-oxidation properties under different oxygen partial pressures (OPP) and thermal shock resistance of the SZS coating were investigated. The results show that the SZS coated sample under low OPP, corresponding to the ambient air, during isothermal oxidation was 0.54% in mass gain after 111 h oxidation at 1500 ° C and less than 0.03% in mass loss after 50 h oxidation in high OPP, corresponding to the air flow rate of 36 L/h. Additionally, the residual compressive strengths (RCS) of the SZS coated samples after oxidation for 50 h in high OPP and 80 h in low OPP remain about 70% and 72.5% of those of original C/C samples, respectively. Moreover, the mass loss of SZS coated samples subjected to the thermal cycle from 1500 ° C in high OPP to boiling water for 30 times was merely 1.61%. 展开更多

Experimental studies on the compressive behavior of composite laminates after low velocity impact was carried out with two test methods. One is SACMA Standard, and the other is a small dimensional specimen test method.Impact damage distributions, compressive failure process after impact, quasi static indentation and compression of laminates with a hole were brought into comparison between these two test methods. The results showed that there is a great difference between these two test methods.Compressive behavior of laminates after impact varies with different test methods.Residual compressive strength of laminates after low velocity impact measured with SACMA Standard can reflect stiffness properties of composite resins more wholely than that measured with the other method can do.Small dimensional specimen test method should be improved on as an experimental standard of compressive strength after impact. 展开更多

In order to prepare monolayer brazed superabrasive wheels, the polycrystalline cubic boron nitride(PCBN)grains were brazed to AISI 1045 steel matrix with Ag–Cu–Ti filler alloy using the high-frequency induction heating technique. The compressive strengths of brazed grains were measured. Morphology, chemical composition and phase component of the brazing resultant around PCBN grain were also characterized. The results show that the maximum compressive strength of brazed grains is obtained in the case of brazing temperature of 965 °C, which does not decrease the original grain strength. Strong joining between Ag–Cu–Ti alloy and PCBN grains is dependent on the brazing resultants, such as TiB_2, TiN and AlTi_3, the formation mechanism of which is also discussed. Under the given experimental conditions, the optimum heating parameters were determined to be current magnitude of 24 A and scanning speed of0.5 mm/s. Finally, the brazing-induced residual tensile stress, which has a great influence on the grain fracture behavior in grinding, was determined through finite element analysis. 展开更多

Assessing the durability of concrete is of prime importance to provide an adequate service life and reduce the repairing cost of structures.Freeze-thaw is one such test that indicates the ability of concrete to last a long time without a significant loss in its performance. In this study, the freeze-thaw resistance of polymer concrete containing different polymer contents was explored and compared to various conventional cement concretes.Concretes’fresh and hardened properties were assessed for their workability, air content, and compressive strength. The mass loss, length change, dynamic modulus of elasticity, and residual compressive strength were determined for all types of concretes subjected to freeze-thaw cycles according to ASTM C666-procedure A.Results showed that polymer concrete(PC)specimens prepared with higher dosages of polymer contents possessed better freeze-thaw durability compared to other specimens. This high durability performance of PCs is mainly due to their impermeable microstructures, absence of water in their structure, and the high bond strength between aggregates and a polymer binder. It is also indicated that the performance of high-strength concrete containing air-entraining admixture is comparable with PC having optimum polymer content in terms of residual compressive strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, mass loss, and length change. 展开更多
