(Saxifragaceae) , a Mongolian folk me- dicinal plant, was used to treat urinary system diseases. The present work aims to investigate the protective effects of Ribes diacanthum Pall (RDP) against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Methods The renal injury was mod- eled by intraperitoneal injection of cisplatin for 5 consecutive days (5 mg·kg^-1 ). Nephroprotection of RDP was investigated by oral administration of RDP aqueous extract at a daily dose of 40 mg · kg^- 1 for 14 consecutive days, starting 7 days prior to cisplatin administration. Results We demonstrated that pretreatment with RDP aqueous ex- tract protected the mice from death induced by cisplatin administration. RDP treatment also significantly reduced blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Cr) levels observed in cisplatin-administrated mice. Histopatho- logical analysis demonstrated that RDP administration protected cisplatin-induced renal tubular cell apoptosis. Fur- ther western blotting analysis revealed that RDP significantly reversed cisplatin-increased expression levels of cleaved-Caspase-3, Bax and cisplatin-decreased expression level of Bcl-2 in renal tissue. Finally, RDP markedly enhanced enzyme activities of reduced superoxide dismutase (SOD), Heine oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and catalase (CAT), suppressed lipid peroxidation as well as reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Conclusion We concluded that RDP displayed nephroprotective effects against cisplatin-induced renal tubular cell apoptosis, possi- bly associated with both enhanced antioxidase activity and suppressed ROS generation. Given the major nephrotox- icity of cisplatin cancer chemotherapy, RDP might be a potential candidate for neoadjuvant chemotherapy.展开更多

Recent survey and observations of E. ribes in different aspects like distribution, population structure, growth habit, climate, natural regeneration and seedling ecology in Karnataka have been thoroughly discussed. This is the first report on artificial regeneration through seeds of diverse origins in ex-situ and in situ conditions and field planting of them in its natural environment. Field planting of in vitro and nursery raised seedlings showed better field performance in terms of survival and growth in its natural growing areas only. Current studies and observations have shown that this species has low ecological gradient and is a “habitat specialist”. E. ribes being a threatened species with small populations coupled with low ecological gradient and virtually no natural regeneration, a modified approach of quasi in situ conservation where in in-situ raising of seedlings of diverse origin with an aim to enrich the diversity of existing population was attempted with considerable success.展开更多

The resuts indicated that the combination of root tip with pretreatment of 2 m molL-1 8-hydroxyquinoline plus 0.05% colchicine or 0.3% balm for 3~5 hours at 14℃,pre-hypotonic trcarment of 0.07mol L-1 KCl for 30 min, fixation in Carnoy's fluid, hydrolysis in 5% cellulase and 5% pectinase mixture for 4~5 hours at 25℃, post-hypotonic treatment in distilled water for half an hour and staining in Giemsa could make the chromosome prepa ration superior to other treatment combinations.展开更多

Premium (2 - 3 capsules daily), a liquid mixture of green-lipped mussel from New Zealand, blackcurrant leaf, and curcuma extract. Within the first 6 weeks of therapy, a significant clinical benefit was observed for relief from pain, need for pain-relieving drugs, and the interference of pain with personal care and lifting. This benefit was more pronounced at 3 months. The mixture was well tolerated without significant side effects. Adherence was estimated to be “good” to “very good.” Patients assessed global improvement and efficacy as “sufficient” to “good.” Based on this study, the mode of action of Synofit? Premium appears mainly to be analgesic, as reported by patients, and allows them to reduce the consumption of other pain-relieving substances and improve their quality of life. In conclusion, Synofit? Premium holds potential as a promising candidate alternative therapy for relief of low back pain and likely other painful rheumatic conditions, with almost no or minor side effects.展开更多
