According to the requirement of the physics design, sixteen horizontal ports on outboard mid-plane and thirty-two vertical ports on the top and bottom are designed for diagnostics, plasma heating, current driving, vacuum pumping and gas puffing. Bellows on these port necks are used for flexible components to absorb the relative displacement in radial and vertical directions due to external load, thermal expansion or contrac-tion and assembly tolerance, and also used for isolation of mechanical vibration. For the support system of vacuum vessel it should be not only strong enough to withstand forces acting on the vessel interior components and the vessel itself due to the dead weight and electromagnetic inter-actions during plasma disruption, but also sufficiently flexible to be suited to thermal expansion during baking. In order to solve this contradiction a new kind of low rigid support has been designed, which has a perfectly rigid in vertical direction and perfectly soft in radial direction. Some three-dimension finite element COSMOS models were performed to analyze their structural strength, stiffness and fatigue life, with an emphasis on the static stress analysis. The load spectra during vacuum vessel operation were also simulated on these models in the view of fatigue design. It was confirmed that the bellows and support had sufficient strength in the designed range of the load conditions. The results showed that the peak stress on bellows was 87 MPa and on the support system was 97 MPa. Now all kinds of bellows and support system have been designed. In order to accumulate some engineering experiences and probe into some molding die and welding technologies, prototypical bellows and support system have been fabricated. At the same time a mechanical testing apparatus was designed for proof tests on the prototypical bellows and support to verify their functional and structure capability. The experimental data indicated that the re-sults of finite element analysis were coincident with experimental test results. It has been proved that the present vacuum vessel's bellows and support system are reasonable and feasible.展开更多

A 3-DOF four-point-elastic-support rigid plate(FERP) structure is presented to describe the catastrophic isolation system. Based on the newly-established structure, theoretical derivation for stiffness matrix calculation by free response(SMCby FR) and the method of stiffness identification by stiffness matrix disassembly(SIby SMD)are proposed. By integrating the SMCby FR and the SIby SMD and defining the stiffness assurance criterion(SAC), the procedures for stiffness identification of a FERP structure(SIFERP) are summarized. Then, a numerical example is adopted for the SIFERP validation, in which the simulated tested free response data are generated by the numerical methods, and operation for filtering noise is conducted to imitate the practical application. Results in the numerical example demonstrate the feasibility and accuracy of the developed SIFERP for stiffness identification.展开更多

Governing equations of the rubbing system, obtained from the Lagrange equation, are solved by the averaging method to find the bifurcation equations. Then, according to the two-dimensional constraint bi- furcation theory, transition sets and bifurcation diagrams of the system with and without rubbing are given to study the influence of system eccentricity and damping on the bi- furcation behaviors, respectively. Finally, according to the Lyapunov stability theory, the stability region of the steady-state rubbing solution, the boundary of static bifurcation, and the Hopf bifurcation are determined to discuss the influence of system parameters on the evolution of system motion. The results may provide some references for the designer in aero rotor systems.展开更多
In Tokomak, the support of the ELM coil, which is close to the plasma and subject to high radiation level, high temperature and high magnetic field, is used to transport and bear the thermal load due to thermal expans...In Tokomak, the support of the ELM coil, which is close to the plasma and subject to high radiation level, high temperature and high magnetic field, is used to transport and bear the thermal load due to thermal expansion and the alternating electromagnetic force generated by high magnetic field and AC current in the coil. According to the feature of ITER ELM coil, the mechanical performance of rigid and flexible supports under different high nuclear heat levels is studied. Results show that flexible supports have more excellent performance in high nuclear heat condition than rigid supports. Concerning thermal and electromagnetic (EM) loads, optimized results further prove that flexible supports have better mechanical performance than rigid ones. Through these studies, reasonable support design can be provided for the ELM coils or similar coils in Tokamak based on the nuclear heat level.展开更多
To evaluate the importance of the canyon topography effects on large structures, based on a rigid frame bridge across a 137-m-deep and 600-m-wide canyon, the seismic response of the canyon site is analyzed using a two...To evaluate the importance of the canyon topography effects on large structures, based on a rigid frame bridge across a 137-m-deep and 600-m-wide canyon, the seismic response of the canyon site is analyzed using a two-dimensional finite element model under different seismic SV waves with the assumptions of vertical incidence and oblique incidence to obtain the ground motions, which are used as the excitation input on the pier foundations of the bridge with improved large mass method. The results indicate that canyon topography has significant influences on the ground motions in terms of inci- dent angle. The peak ground acceleration values vary greatly from the bottom of the canyon to the upper comers. Under ver- tical incident SV waves, at the upper comers of canyon the peak ground accelerations greatly increase; whereas the peak ground accelerations diminish at the bottom comers of canyon. Under oblique incident SV waves, the shaking of the canyon slope perpendicular to the incidence direction is much more severe than that of the opposite side of canyon. And the ground surface has been characterized by larger deformations in the case of oblique incident waves. It is also concluded that the low piers and frame of the continuous rigid frame bridge ape more sensitive to the multi-support seismic excitations than the flexible high piers. The canyon topography as well as the oblique incidence of the waves brings the continuous rigid frame bridge severe responses, which should be taken into account in bridge design.展开更多
The nonlinear analysis of pounding between bridge deck segments subjected to multi-support excitations and multi-dimensional earthquake motion was performed.A novel bottom rigid element(BRE)method of the current displ...The nonlinear analysis of pounding between bridge deck segments subjected to multi-support excitations and multi-dimensional earthquake motion was performed.A novel bottom rigid element(BRE)method of the current displacement input model for structural seismic analysis under the multi-support excitations was used to calculate structural dynamic response.In the analysis,pounding between adjacent deck segments was considered.The seismic response of a multi-span bridge subjected to the multi-support excitation,considering not only the traveling-wave effect and partial coherence effect,but also the seismic non-stationary characteristics of multi-support earthquake motion,was simulated using finite element method(FEM).Meanwhile,the seismic response of the bridge under uniform earthquake was also analyzed.Finally,comparative analysis was conducted and some calculation results were shown for pounding effect,under multi-dimensional and multi-support earthquake motion,when performing seismic response analysis of multi-span bridge.Compared with the case of uniform/multi-support/multi-support and multi-dimensional earthquake input,the maximum values of pounding force in the case of multi-support and multi-dimensional earthquake input increase by about 5 8 times;the absolute value of bottom moment and shear force of piers increase by about50%600%and 23.1%900%,respectively.A conclusion can be given that it is very necessary to consider the pounding effect under multi-dimensional and multi-support earthquake motion while performing seismic response analysis of multi-span bridge.展开更多
