Death means the termination of the life of an individual along with its biological functions. It is one of the indispensable aspects of many traditions and organizations and is an important feature of every culture and civilization in the world. In common parlance death refers to the moment at which life ends and one of the difficult tasks of defining death is to distinguish it from the life of an individual. When a death occurs to an individual, it requires drawing precise conceptual boundaries between life and death. The life of an individual is defined on the basis of consciousness and when consciousness ceases, a person is said to have died. Death has an integral relationship with religion, especially with rites and rituals through which the departed soul is appeased with the intervention of the supernatural. In every society, there are certain customs related to death as well as the disposal of the corpse which reflect the parochial belief system associated with the event. In this paper, an attempt has been made to examine the pattern of disposal of death, integral religious rites, and rituals among the Tengapania Deoris of Assam.展开更多

However, in the artisanal maritime fishery in Gabon, fishermen are confronted with the major difficulty of the inaccessibility of protective tools to carry out fishing trips in all peace of mind. The absence of equipment to help maritime navigation poses the problem of insecurity in which the various artisanal fishermen work, often victims of numerous accidents at sea. This article aims at highlighting the difficulties of accessibility, by the fishermen, of all the conventional protection tools recommended by the administrations. In fact, the methodology used is based on the consultation of official reports and publications on the subject, field observations and semi-structured interviews with 110 actors. The results obtained reveal, on the one hand, a plethora of conventional protective equipment required of fishing vessels. On the other hand, they reveal the high cost of safety equipment which creates, among the professionals concerned, a reluctance to acquire all of the said tools and forces the interested parties to associate them very often with the traditional procedures for rescue at sea.展开更多

This relationship is also manifested in the relationship between Taoist rites and agriculture: the Taoist rites have obvious awareness of stressing the agriculture; holding of Taoist rites, gods worshiped in rites, offerings used, and grain consumed are connected with the agriculture; many actions in rites have nature of imitating the agriculture. The concept of " quietness" and " cleanness" in rites can cultivate the awareness of farmers for respecting the agriculture.展开更多

The traditional rites that were effective in instituting measures that ensured chastity among the Akan teenagers are now replaced by foreign rites that seem to be less effective. This paper examines teenage pregnancy and its morality among the traditional Akan of Ghana. The paper discovers that the morality of teenage pregnancy among the traditional Akan depends on the circumstances under which the pregnancy occurs. The following among others are identified as the major factors responsible for the upsurge of teenage pregnancy among the Akan: the breakdown of the extended family system and social cohesion; the influx of foreign cultural and religious practices coupled with the wrong mentality that indigenous African cultural practices are uncivil. The paper posits that the bragor9 and kyiribra rites are important traditional tools which can be refined and used together with other modern methods to remedy the upsurge of teenage pregnancy and restore the moral sanity that existed among the Akan.展开更多

The spirit of Chinese culture concerns ethics and art. A good combination of moral and art education is the highest state of moral pursuit and artistic pursuit, as well. In the context of Chinese culture and art, music is more than a means to satisfy a person's physical appetite; it also serves to inspire people to cultivate a sound and complete personality. No art form can exist in isolation. Art should express the subject consciousness of individual artists and, more importantly, the common pursuit of all human beings. Such a philosophy should be reflected in every piece of artwork. The social guiding role of aesthetic education is a key feature of Chinese culture and there has been a civilizing influence pervading all aspects of Chinese culture and art. In a profound way, traditional Chinese art conveys the mental outlook and joy of Chinese culture. The fundamental humanism of Chinese culture is demonstrated in every aspect of Chinese art, which collectively highlights Chinese people's tastes and cultural pursuits. Therefore, it is easier to approach truths through art.展开更多
