Silica glasses doped with Bi2S3 microcystallite was prepared by the sol-gel process. Photoinduced second harmonic generation (SHG) was observed in the glass when it was irradiated with intense 1.06 mum and frequency doubled laser beams from a mode-locked Nd: YAG laser. It was found that the signal intensity increased with the irradiating time and approached a saturation gradually. The effect may be explained reasonably by the DC field model. 展开更多

Photo-induced Phenomena in GeS_4 Glasses

GeS4 bulk glasses were prepared by the melt-quench technique and the samples were irradiated by 532-nm linearly polarized light. After the laser treatment, the photo-induced changes of the samples were investigated by... GeS4 bulk glasses were prepared by the melt-quench technique and the samples were irradiated by 532-nm linearly polarized light. After the laser treatment, the photo-induced changes of the samples were investigated by UV-1601 speetrophotometer and optical second-order nonlinear tester. The results show that the transmittance of the samples around 532 nm obviously decreases and Bragg reflector forms, which is due to the production of photon-generated carriers. With the increase of laser pulse energy or the extension of irradiation duration, the Bragg reflector increases and gradually tends to be stable. These can be ascribed to the excitation- capture process of the carriers. After irradiation, the relaxation phenomenon results from the release of part of the absorbed energy in the glass matrix. And the fitting equation of the relaxation process is consistent with a conventional Kohlrausch stretched exponential function. The origin of the second harmonic generation (SHG) is because of the dipole reorientation caused by the photo-induced anisotropy in the glass. 展开更多

Experimental investigation of nonlinear process based on cSHG/DFG in PPLN waveguide

Effects of second harmonic generation (SHG) and cascaded second harmonic generation/difference frequency generation(cSHG/DFG) based on the quasi-phase-matching (QPM) condition in periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide were investigated experimentally. SHG conversion efficiency of -13.6dB and QPM bandwidth of 0.45nm were achieved using a 16.1dBm power of fundamental wave at 1550.4nm. Using pulsed all-fiber passive mode locked laser and tunable continuous wave laser, cSHG/DFG effect utilized for optical sampling was observed. Conversion efficiencies were calculated, and 11.88nm-wide QPM bandwidth was achieved through changing the wavelength of input signal. Conversion efficiency of cSHG/DFG effect increased linearly with the total injected power. 展开更多

The output single pass SHG power was tested by an authorized optical system. The normalized max conversion efficiency is calculated to be 0.25 0 0(W·cm) -1 .The fabrication and parameters calculated method are introduced, and testing scheme is described in this paper. A broad sampling bandwidth can be obtained by adjusting chirp coefficient and waveguide length of CPPLN, and sampling efficiency can be improved by using higher pump power, increasing waveguide length and choosing appropriate chirp coefficient. Results show that both sampling bandwidth and efficiency in CPPLN waveguides are controllable and that CPPLN waveguides are more suitable for multiwavelength optical sampling systems. 展开更多

Multilayer waveguides containing a silicon oxynitride layer were used as charge trapper in this investigation on the effect of the internal field inside the waveguide. Compared to waveguides without the trapping layer, experimental results showed that the induced linear electro-optic (EO) coefficient increases about 20% after poling, suggesting strongly that the internal field is relatively enhanced, and showed it is a promising means for improving nonlinearity by poling in waveguides. 展开更多

To find new chalcogenide glass possessing larger second-order non-linearity, glasses with compositions Ge-Ga-X-S (X=P, As, Sb) were prepared via melt quenching technique. The amorphous nature of all the compositions of the as-quenched glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD). The glassy thermal properties of the as-quenched glasses were established by differential thermal analyses(DTA). The glass structure was studied by RAMAN spectra and the second order nonlinearity was studied by the Maker Fringe method after the electron beam poling(EBP) and electric/temperature field poling(ETFP) respectively. Additions of various pnicogen atoms into the Ge-Ga-S glasses lead to the difference in the second order nonlinearity of the glass. It's found that glasses with different structures result in different SHG intensities, and even more, a large second order nonlinear susceptibility X(2) of about 9 pm/V was obtained for all the glasses and the reasons for such a large susceptibility were analyzed. 展开更多

A 8×5×1mm3,∧=9.0μm PPKTP wafer is successfully fabricated for the first order QPM SHG. The interactive length of the sample is about 3mm. The SHG scheme of Nd: YAG at 1064nm tested that the output power of cw 532nm green light is 0.2mw at room temperature with fundamental power of 1.2w. Crosslinking is one of the effective routes for improving the orientation stability of poled polymer films. The derivative of polyvinyl alcohol containing 4-nitro-4'-alkoxystilbene and photo-crosslinkable cinnamyl groups as side chains has been synthesized. The in-situ simultaneous photo-crosslinking poling of synthesized polymer films has teen performed, The second order nonlinear optical coefficient d(33) of poled film is 11 pm/V. The SHG measurements show that the break-over temperature of SHG signal is raised obviously after irradiation, its orientation stability is doubled as compared with that of non-crosslinking samples. 展开更多

采用实时测量光学二次谐波产生(SHG)和吸收光谱的方法时芪类有机分子DANS(4’-N,N-dimethylamino-nitrostilbene)及一种新合成的经氰基团修饰的有机分子CNDS(α’-cyano-4’-nitro-4-N,N-dimethylaminostilbene)掺杂PMM... 采用实时测量光学二次谐波产生(SHG)和吸收光谱的方法时芪类有机分子DANS(4’-N,N-dimethylamino-nitrostilbene)及一种新合成的经氰基团修饰的有机分子CNDS(α’-cyano-4’-nitro-4-N,N-dimethylaminostilbene)掺杂PMMA[poly(methylmethacrylate)]极化聚合膜的非线性光学性质进行了研究。在电晕极化条件下,由于聚合膜的电导率随温度的变化急剧增加,实验中发现两种掺杂极化聚合膜的最佳电导极化温度均低于它们的玻转温度Tg.在最佳极化条件下,从极化前和极化后的吸收光谱变化可看出CNDS的有序度较DANS的差.但实时SHG表明,CNDS/PMMA极化掺杂聚合膜的二阶非线性系数X(2)较DANS/PMMA极化聚合膜的大.结合极化前和极化后吸收峰强度的变化,我们得到CNDS分了的非线性极化率β约为140×10-30esu.在撤离极化场后,CNDS/PMMA的SHG强度的弛豫也比DANS/PMMA慢,说明CNDS是一种性能较DANS优越的制备二阶光学非线性的掺杂分子. 展开更多

采用Maker条纹测试方法,首次在电场-温度场极化GeS2-Ga2S3-PbI2准三元体系硫卤玻璃中观察到了明显的二次谐波发生(SHG).对于70GeS2·15Ga2S3·15PbI2组分玻璃,详细研究不同极化电压、极化温度和极化时间对二次谐波(SH)强度的影... 采用Maker条纹测试方法,首次在电场-温度场极化GeS2-Ga2S3-PbI2准三元体系硫卤玻璃中观察到了明显的二次谐波发生(SHG).对于70GeS2·15Ga2S3·15PbI2组分玻璃,详细研究不同极化电压、极化温度和极化时间对二次谐波(SH)强度的影响,发现当极化温度高于190℃,电压高于4·0kV时,可以观察到SHG并且SH强度随极化电压与时间的升高而增大直至饱和.在6kV极化40min的条件下,SH强度随极化温度的升高先增大后减小.在6kV、250℃、40min的最佳极化条件下,70GeS2·15Ga2S3·15PbI2玻璃的二阶非线性极化率χ(2)达到最大值4pm·V-1.根据偶极子取向模型,讨论了二次谐波效应的机理是该硫卤玻璃中偶极子在高温条件下摆脱网络束缚沿外加电场方向取向调整,从而破坏了玻璃的宏观各向同性所致,并定性解释了极化条件对玻璃二阶光学非线性效应的影响. 展开更多
