Therapeutic Effect of Chinese Herbal Medicine for Strengthening Qi,Nourishing Yin,and Removing Stasis on Serum Osteopontin and Quality of Life of Patients with Primary Sjogren's Syndrome

Objective：To observe the therapeutic effect of Chinese herbal medicine for strengthening qi, nourishing yin,and removing stasis on serum osteopontin（OPN） and quality of life（QOL） in patients with primary Sjogren＇s syndrome（pSS） and to study the correlation between OPN level and the disease.Methods：Sixtyeight pSS patients were randomly assigned to two groups：the treatment group（35 cases） treated by Chinese herbal medicine for strengthening qi,nourishing yin,and removing stasis combined with hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablet（HCQ） and the control group（33 cases） treated by HCQ only.Both were treated for 3 months. Before and after treatment,immunoglobulin G（IgG） level,erythrocyte sedimentation rate（ESR）,and OPN level were measured.The QOL in patients was evaluated using the Short Form-36 Health Survey（SF-36） before and after treatment.Thirty healthy females were taken as the normal control.Results：Before treatment,levels of IgG,ESR,and OPN in patients were higher than those in the normal control.After 3 months of treatment, those in both treatment groups decreased but were lower in the treatment group than those in the control group （P0.05）.The scores of 8 dimensions of SF-36 were lower in the pSS patients than those in the normal control （P0.05） and higher in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment（P0.05）.Furthermore, there was a positive correlation between the levels of OPN and the levels of IgG and ESR,and a negative correlation between OPN levels and the overall score of SF-36（P0.05）.Conclusions：Chinese herbal medicine for strengthening qi,nourishing yin,and removing stasis could alleviate pSS disease and improve the QOL.In addition,the OPN level might be used as an evaluating index for pSS disease.

Efficacy and advantages of modified Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments based on"kidney reinforcing"for chronic aplastic ane-mia:a randomized controlled clinical trial

OBJECTIVE:To compare the efficacy of modified treatments based on "kidney reinforcing" in the management of chronic aplastic anemia(CAA),and explore their advantages and specialties.METHODS:One hundred and eleven patients with CAA were randomly divided into three groups:kidney reinforcing alone(KA),"kidney reinforcing and Qi tonifying"(KQ),and "kidney reinforcing and blood circulation invigorating"(KC).Normal and positive control groups were also formed.All patients were treated for 6 months(two courses).Hemograms,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome scores,and therapeutic effects were assessed,and changes in T-lymphocyte subsets,regulatory T cells and cytokines were detected.RESULTS:The KQ and KC groups had lower TCM syndrome scores than the positive control group after 6 months(P < 0.05).The KQ group had a higher overall efficacy than the positive control group after 3 months(P < 0.05),while platelet counts increased in the KC group after 6 months(P < 0.05).CD3+ T-lymphocyte ratios decreased only in the KQ group,while CD3 + CD4 + CD8-Tlymphocytes increased only in the KC group after 6 months(P <0.05).Levels of interferon-γ,tumor necrosis fac-tor-α,interleukin(IL)-2 and IL-6 decreased and levels of IL-4 and IL-10 increased in all treated groups after 6 months.Levels of IL-6 in the KQ and KC groups were lower than those in the positive control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:Treatments based on kidney reinforcing have a rebalancing effect on cytotoxic and T helper cells,and regulate expression of interferon-γ,IL-2,IL-6 and IL-4.KQ may be more effective in treating CAA,and KC may have an advantage in platelet recovery.

New Analysis of Banxia Xiexin Decoction and Its Similar Prescriptions in Treatise on Febrile Diseases to Explore the Universality of the Treatment and Compatibility Principle

Objective:The objective of this study is to explore the treatment and compatibility principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Materials and Methods:Syndrome differentiation is used to identify the etiology,nature,and location of a disease and the relationship between the healthy Qi and pathogenic factors by analyzing and synthesizing the four diagnostics data.The theory of treatment is to determine the principle and methods of treatment according to the results of syndrome differentiation and implement them as a specific prescription.This paper bears witness to the principle universality by analysis of the articles of the Banxia Xiexin Decoction,and it equally has analogical prescriptions in Treatise on Febrile Diseases.Results:The treatment and compatibility principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine are the same,that is,rectifying the deviation on three dimensions,strengthening the healthy Qi,and eliminating pathogenic factors in the light of its general trend.Conclusion:The treatment and compatibility principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine are the same,The treatment and compatibility principles provide a new thinking for clinical treatment.
