In this paper, the data of vertical crustal deformations associated with the Xingtai,Haicheng,Tangshan and Datong strong earthquakes in North China Block have been processed, analyzed and studied. The result shows that the seismogenic processes of strong earthquakes are accompanied by an evolution of crustal deformation as follows: ① The area of crustal deformation anomaly should be large in radius and extensive in range. ② There are both the 'field' and 'source' of crustal deformation anomaly, with the 'source' existing inside the'field' but differing from the 'field' distinctly. ③ The evolution process includes a number of steps.Firstly, movements in the 'field region transform from the normal state to an anomalous state to start the formation of field precursors.Secondly, movements in the 'source' region become outstandingly remarkable. Thirdly, anomalies in the 'field' region that surrounds the 'source' become increasingly intense.Fourthly, the 'source' region enters a state of immobilized-movement.Finally,an earthquake occurs. ④ There are usually one or more areas where the anomaly field forms a special pattern, mostly a four-quadrant distribution. The area which is'activated' first but becomes 'immobilized' afterwards often coincides with the source area.⑤ The appearance of an obviously immobilized area inside the obviously activated area is a precursory feature which suggests that an earthquake is impending.⑥ The longer the duration of immobilized-movement,the higher the magnitude of earthquake would be.The above might be the basic mode of vertical crustal deformation during the seismogenic process of strong intraplate earthquakes. 展开更多

Following a new train of thinking, this paper has explored first the potential information in the ground resistivitydata observed by the existing geoelectric observation system, investigated and proposed a new dimensionlessgeoelectric precursor factor, the degree of ground resistivity anisotropy, S, and studied the characteristics of dynamic evolution pattern of S during the seismogenic process. The results show that, during the seismogenic process, the degree of ground resistivity anisotropy (S) displays h process of 'normal' → 'abnormal strengthening(amplitude, range)' → 'abnormal weakening'→ 'earthquake occurrence'→ 'normal'. The earthquake wouldoccur at the time when the S value has entered the late stage of strengthening and turns to weaken and in the gradient belt on the margin ofS anomaly region. The dynamic evolution pattern ofS reflects the changes of the tectonicstress field during the seismogenic process. Therefore, it would be possible to trace the process of earthquake generation and occurrence from the dynamic evolution pattern ofS so as to service eaJ'thquake prediction. 展开更多

In this paper, observation data in 25 GPS reference stations of China have been analyzed by calculating GPS position coordinate time-series with GIPSY. Result shows there is an obvious trend variation in such time-series. The trend variations of time series along the longitude and latitude coordinate reflect the motion of each position in the global-plate, in which the trend variation in the vertical direction reveals some large-scale construction information or reflects the local movement around the positions. The analysis also shows that such time-series have a variation cycle of nearly 1.02 a, but the reason still remains to be further studied. At the end of this paper, response of the time-series to MS=8.1 Kunlunshan earthquake was analyzed, and the seismogenic process of MS=8.1 Kunlunshan earthquake, according to the time proceeding and the feature of anomaly, was divided into 3 phases-changes in blocks with forces, strain accumulation, quick accumulation and slow release of energy. At the initial stage of seismogenic process of MS=8.1 earthquake and at the imminent earthquake, coseismic process as well as during the post earthquake recovery, anomaly in vertical direction is always in a majority. The anomalous movement in vertical direction at the initial stage resulted in a blocking between faults, while at the middle stage of seismogenic process, the differential movement between blocks are in a majority, which is the major reason causing energy accumulating at the blocking stage of faults. 展开更多

According to the data of precise relevelling and deformation measurement across faults, the temporal and spatial evolution process of crustal deformation field in the source and peripheral regions of the Tangshan earthquake (1976, M S=7.8), from 22 years before the earthquake to 9 years after, is described with the method of crustal deforma tion pattern dynamics. The crustal unstable zones first occur in the exterior, and then surround the focal region by contracting from the exterior to the interior, when the focal region appears to be unstable but does not lose stability. After the transient stable state, the second unstable process from the exterior to interior appears, which results in the instability of focal region. 'Deformation gap', 'earthquake gap' and 'locked fault zone' occur before instability, and their spatial distributions overlap, but their occurrence times have little differences. The earthquake occurs after the impending pre slide of the faults in the focal region. The studied results of the evolution process of crustal deformation field are identical with each other and with that of numeric simulation of crustal stress field, which supports the evolution model of seismogenic system with a strong body as its core. 展开更多
