In this research, an index system and me...In the process of designing self-elevating drilling unit, it is important, yet complicated, to use comparison and filtering to select the optimum scheme from the feasible ones. In this research, an index system and methodology for the evaluation of self-elevating drilling unit was proposed. Based on this, a multi-objective combinatorial optimization model was developed, using the improved grey relation Analysis (GRA), in which the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to determine the weights of the evaluating indices. It considered the connections within the indices, reflecting the objective nature of things, and also considered the subjective interests of ship owners and the needs of designers. The evaluation index system and evaluation method can be used in the selection of an optimal scheme and advanced assessment. A case study shows the index system and evaluation method are scientific, reasonable, and easy to put into practice. At the same time, such an evaluation index system and evaluation method will be helpful for making decisions for other mobile platforms.展开更多

This paper provides a compound/integrated algorithm based on process f...The general layout of 6th generation semi-submersible drilling platforms is the main factor impacting the efficiency of their drilling operations. This paper provides a compound/integrated algorithm based on process flow that is aimed at improving efficiency, while giving attention to stability and safety at the same time. The paper describes the process flow of dual drilling centers and a hierarchical division of rigs based on the different modes of transportation of various drilling support systems. The general layout-centripetal overall arrangement spatially was determined based on drilling efficiency. We derived our modules according to drilling functionality; the modules became our basic layout units. We applied different layout algorithm to mark out the upper and lower decks. That is, the upper deck was designed based on the lowest transportation cost while the lower deck's calculations were based on the best-fit scope. Storage configurations in columns and pontoons were also considered for the layout design. Finally the center of gravity was taken into consideration and the general layout was adjusted accordingly, to result in an optimal center of gravity. The methodology of the general layout can provide a reference for implementation of domestic designs of semi-submersible rigs.展开更多

The amplitude of leg joint stresses is a very important factor for the fatigue life of the platform. However, there are not many researches having been done on the mechanism and dynamic stress analysis of these leg joints. This paper focuses on the dynamic stress analysis and suppression methods of the leg joints of self-elevating platforms. Firstly, the dynamic stresses of the lattice leg joints are analyzed for a self-elevating platform by use of the 5th-order Stokes wave theory. Secondly, the axial and bending stresses are studied due to their large contributions to total stresses. And then, different joint types are considered and the leg-hull interface stiffness is analyzed for the improvement of the joint dynamic stress amplitude. Finally, some useful conclusions are drawn for the optimization design of the self-elevating platform.展开更多

A multibody system including a drilling riser system,tensioners and a floating platform is key equipment for offshore oil and gas drilling.Most of the previous studies only focus on the drilling riser system rather th...A multibody system including a drilling riser system,tensioners and a floating platform is key equipment for offshore oil and gas drilling.Most of the previous studies only focus on the drilling riser system rather than the multibody system.Mechanical characteristics of the deepwater drilling riser system cannot be analyzed accurately in a simplified model.Therefore,a three-dimensional multibody analysis program is developed.The static and dynamic characteristics of the deepwater drilling riser system under different platform motions are analyzed based on the developed program.The results show that the static displacement of the riser system with tensioners is smaller than that without tensioners,which means the tensioners can suppress the deformation of the riser system.Under surge and sway motions of the platform,the dynamic displacement of the riser system with tensioners is also smaller than that without tensioners due to the tensioner suppression effect.Besides,the heave motion induces a uniform axial vibration of the riser system,while roll and pitch motions excite the riser system to vibrate laterally.Compared with the stress amplitude due to surge and sway motions,the stress amplitude of the riser system due to heave,roll and pitch motions is relatively small but cannot be neglected.展开更多
